Whenever I try and start the HOI Editor now, it displays a message saying:

Critical Error
--- ERROR : (Unknown Type in LandDivision) 'speed_cap_art = 5' Line=16 file=db\units\infantry.txt --- Do you want to continue?

Abort Retry Ignore

If I choose ignore, then another similar message pops up, but with slightly different details (different line number and/or file). If I keep pressing ignore, there are about 200 of them, and whether the editor then works or not I'm nto sure, but I can't click through all of them every time I load it.

If I press abort the editor closes saying 'Runtime Error....abnormal programme termination'. If I press Retry, the editor simply closes and fails to open, and I get a Windows Dialogue message saying Editor.exe has encountered an unknown problem and has been forced to closed.

I've patched the game to 1.06, and am using Windows XP, the editor worked the first few times I've tried but now this problem has suddenly appeared. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the patch and the whole game, but it makes no difference.

If it matters, I havn't edited the game at all or downloaded any scenarios off the internet.

What can I do? Please can I have some help.

Check to see if you have two editors in the folder. You may have an NewEditor or some such. One of the patches included the wrong version of the editor.

You may also find that 1.06B helps.

Or you can edit in the Files directly with Wordpad like most modders do, since it is so easy.

Same thing as above try 1.06B and see if it helps.

Please excuse my stupidity byt are you saying if i install patch 1.05 or 1.06 the editor will no longer work?

If so do we know of any plans to change this?

Thanks for the help guys

I've now heard this too. What are paradox on about when a patch STOPS part of the game package working?

Will this be changed in a future patch?

It was my understanding that no one used the Editor anyway since it is easier to edit the files in a text editor.

Well being a complete thicko and in no way, shape or form a techno computer whizz, i wouldn't know where to start with a text hex editor thingy.

So editors are a great asset to us of the computer challenged ilk.

The thing is the files are not in hex, they are in plain ascii text. just like we are using here.

Nope. Most of the people who post on this board may be using Wordpad, but I suspect most of the people who play the game liked using the editor (the difference being most of the people who play the game do NOT post here...that's a truth for most games). That's the difference between serious modders and folks who just like to play the game. Most of us just want to play the game and make a few minor changes here and there...for which we would like to be able to use the editor.

Please fix it. Pretty please. Because I have tried using wordpad, and quite frankly, it sucks. If I wanted to make major changes, it would probably be easier to figure out the how to make the changes I want in Wordpad, but personally, the most I ever want to do is up the value of a few provinces and maybe see how things would work if some minor country suddenly found itself with the wherewithal to be a major country or fight the war with Mexico as a Axis country (or similar). The editor is perfect for that.

Lokugh

I will put a word in for it for the next patch.

YIPEEEEEE! Even a word in for it in the next patch makes my day better. I miss the editor so much.... It understands me much better than my wife.

I mean, uh..... oh @#*&

Forget I said that. And don't tell my wife!!!

:D

Just FYI, I have discovered a workaround, at least for the moment, but it involves installing the game on my system in two different directories and only patching one. The second one I use for the editor and then move the scenario. It is cumbersome, however, and there are occasional problems still, but for those of us who like the editor, it is a possibility...

But this patch is already downloadable?
Because I have seen only the 1.06, not 1.06b neither 1.06c....
