Imperial Eagle

Looked it up, and whomever posted it before was right. The flag Byzantium flies in EUII is the Paleologus dynastic flag. The normal imperial flag is a dual headed eagle, on a field of yellow holding a baton/staff in one hand and that stupid round thign Queen Victoria's always holding in her portraits. You know, the thing with the cross on it. Set above the eagle between the two heads is a cross. So it wouldn't make sense to have Comneni flying the Paleologus flag. And the Paleologus had been in power since Michael VIII in 1274. I think. Still, Comnenus-Angelus. Anyone know anything about graphics files? A new Comnenus country tag, with a new flag. That sounds so friggin daunting. :confused:

Only countries that havent had any "real" difficulties with controlling "other" cultures should get those cultures (ottomans for example). with byzantine we do not know how good they would be at handling turkish or some other culture. Correct me if i'm wrong (dont know much about byzantine) but didnt they loose all non-greek provinces quite fast ?

The loss of the "non-Greek" provinces had nothing to do with revolt or administration. The Empire was simply crushed by the unprovoked imperialistic aggression of Islam. There was no help forthcoming from the West, and the Emperor had trouble with the Slavs at the same time, so North Africa and the Levant simply were let go.

The monarch list for BYZ that I have is a list of reasonably-named fantasy monarchs right up to the end of the game. The only problem is that they tend to rule for an excessive amount of time (30 years or so each) But there are 14 free id numbers (4696 - 4709) should you want to add more. I have the beta file, is it different in the general release version?

Too many dormant monarchs?:) Well, they are all activated by events elaborated by EEP RUS TEAM

it's called an orb - it's another tradition that started in byzantium that passed eventually to the west; it represents the world. by holding the sceptre and the orb, a monarch is subtly implying his or her divine right to rule

I think Byzantium (Roman Empire) should start out with very few shield as they do now but as time goes on if their power grows they should be able to gain more shields. Thus making it able to eventually re-conquer the entire Roman Empire. I think right now conquest stops in Asia Minor. after that they should have an event where they get the chance to take eastern Mediterranean. After that North Africa and then finally Italy. All events should be multiple choice (further conquest or not) and after the end of each successful conquest one should get the chance to advance to the next conquest, and get the culture of the lands conquered from the last conquest (depending on what lands those are). We could do as I have done in the Holy Roman Empire united thread and make a 'dead line' for each conquest to be finished or else the events do not show up. That would also allow us to make the events not only follow a straight path but would also allow us to go more in depth with event descriptions. Here is a small example of what I am talking about (using last posted monarch list):

During the reign of Konstantinos XVII, The Roman Empire had expanded its borders to encompass all of Northern Africa, but he was not content with the borders of his grand empire claiming Northern Africa was 'nothing more than a large sad box' and wished to take back the eternal city and the rest of Italy along with it. So activating his doormat claims on the peninsula he began what would later be know as 'the reconstitution of Rome'.

So in order to get this event (I know it is not all that good I wrote it in 3 min.) you would have to own all of North Africa during his life (1750-1762), and would still have the chance to turn down these claims. This would make the game run on a very chronological time line and would force the player to move quick or be happy with what they have. Not to mention they can stop their conquest at any time they wish.

PS I really think it should be changed to Roman Empire that is much more appropriate, at least in my mind

So why not give shields to every other country to recreate the x empire?:rolleyes:
It's already unrealistic as it is with Byzantium getting CB shields later on all of Asia Minor. Most of it had been repopulated by Turks. I hardly think the Muslim Arabs will willingly submit to their Greek Orthodox overlords.

That's why they don't get the cultures on certain spots.Really it is hard to say weather or not the Muslims would be treated well within the Empire. If Byzantium changed its ways and became more liberal in religious view (very unlikely from what I understand) the Muslims would not have to much problems with having them as rulers. The only way Rome was ever able to hold its self together in the 1st place was that it tended to take in the cultures of those who they conquered. In fact that's how Turkey held its self together so long, they where liberal enough when it came to religion the people did not constantly rebel until nationalism came in at least. Besides remember the events they have to get the Turks out of Asia Minore? You could do that for the rest of the places or you could just give them shields on the lands but not give them the cultures, that way revolts would still be high unless they keep 3+ stability, and have you ever been able to keep 3+ stability while taking over the Mediterranean? But in all likely hood your right, at least it was a nice idea.....

Hi!

Here are couple of events I made for my Byzantium campaign to give Byzantium some cultures it had before.

## Armenians become Byzantines

event = {
id = 90058
trigger = {
owned = { province = 472 data = -1 } # Armenia
}
random = NO
country = BYZ
name = "The Re-assimilation of Armenians"
desc = "At the height of Byzantium's power Armenians were the empires pool for skilled soldiers and most of the generals came from Armenian families with military traditions. As Armenia was retaken, Armenians once again became a part of the Empire."
style = 2
date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1422 }
offset = 9999
deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1800 }

action_a = {
name = "We welcome our Armenian brothers!"
command = { type = add_countryculture which = Armenian }
command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 1 }
command = { type = domestic which = land value = 1 }
command = { type = INF which = 472 value = 5000 }
command = { type = stability value = -1 }
}
}

## Syrians become Byzantines

event = {
id = 90059
trigger = {
owned = { province = 485 data = -1 } # Aleppo
}
random = NO
country = BYZ
name = "The Re-assimilation of Syrians"
desc = "Syrians were Empire's economy's driving force before they were conquered by the Arabs. Eventually what remained of the hellenised Syria was taken back. This gave the Empire's economy a much needed boost."
style = 2
date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1422 }
offset = 9999
deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1800 }

action_a = {
name = "Aleppo is free of Islam!"
command = { type = add_countryculture which = Syrian }
command = { type = domestic which = innovative value = 1 }
command = { type = domestic which = mercantilism value = -1 }
command = { type = merchants value = 3 }
command = { type = stability value = -1 }
command = { type = trade value = 500 }
}
}

Don't really know about the Syrians, but the Armenians were an important part of the empire. The events aren't alltogether beneficial since with a multi-cultural Empire you'd propably want to go narrow-minded rather than innovative. What do you think?

First post btw :)

I don't think anyone should have CBs on territory they didn't hold between 1219 and 1419. Thus, the Byzantines should have only a very small number of shields. No one was going to accept the claims of the Greeks over the whole of the Mediterranian, especially not fully formed states like Spain, France, and England.

Not to mention the Italians...

I believe rule of Syrians and Armenians were too long ago to constitute acquisition of those cultures.

What about Turkey getting all those shields on places they never owned and have nothing in common with the people living there? I think things like shield justification needs to be worked out and put in EEPs rules so that their is no argument. Of course I do agree perhaps if the land is owned and the people have been converted we make an event where the people of that province accept Byzantium as their ruler.

Well Byzantium should get those cultures because Syrians and Armenians would rather be ruled by Byzantines than moslems.

And I think Byzantium really should get the shields needed to re-create Roman Empire. After all, this is supposed to be fantasy :) Of course everyone would hate them should they choose to go for it, but that doesn't really matter since everyone hates Byzantium anyway.

Logical fantasy.
