San François Xavier in the Far East

This is my first attempt at the EEP forum, and I really don't have much idea if something like this has been proposed, nor if it is possible at all.

San Francisco de Javier was a navarrese monk that was sent to India as missionary from Portugal, and he did an awesome work (arguable on some points, but notable). It has been said that he converted hundred of thousands to the catholicism...More reliable sources accept that he gave christian baptism to at least some 40000 people in India, Malacca and Japan.

In the game he's curiously represented as a portuguese conquistador :))?) named Francois-Xavier

What I wonder is if sending a missionary is one of the possible commands in any given event.

[EDIT: gosh, just checked Havard's excellent site and seen that there's no "send missionary" command...San Francisco out :(]

If so, there could be a series of "sending missionary for free" events for Portugal, with the condition of Francois-Xavier (as he's named in the game) being alive, and Portugal knowing these provinces:

Goa
Cochin
Kerala
Malacca
Kyushu

For example: If Francois-Xavier is alive AND Goa is known to Portugal, Portugal can send a free missionary to Goa, etc (and identhical events for Cochin, Kerala, Malacca and Kyushu)

It is very unlikely that these missionaries will succeed, but if they would be? In Japan the Jesuites achieved some success, and in the end some turmoil

If sending a missionary is one of the possible commands in any event, I think this will make for some "flavored" portuguese events (and some surprises for some far eastern countries)

I don't know if this has been asked but...

In playing Granada I noticed a few things, one is that no matter how well you do you still get Castille's puppet king Muhammed the 12th. I owned half of Iberia and still got this monarch. I believe there should be an event of some nature, because in history the noble was captured and put on the throne.

Also I noticed other things that were discussed was the fact that the Christians weren't that mad at Granada. I have not seen a game yet were relations were not -200...

I think everybody has forgot, there is a fail in aragonesse monarch file, one real king was out, and habsburgs was the descendents while they would be castilian ones:confused: here is a better list:

Iberia should have three cultures: Castilian, Portuguesse and Catalan

Are there triggers to Core Provinces??

Would it be possible to add all the leader/event files to Castille, in the event you want to keep the name Castille? Maybe some event for Aragon to get the spanish leaders/events if they conquers castille, but want to keep the old name also..how about it?

I tried to track down the birth places of the Spainish explorers and conquistadors to divide them between Aragon and Castile if Spain doesn't form and came up with the following.

Castillian:
V.Yáñez Pinzón
Juan de la Cosa
Juan Díaz de Solís
Núñez de Balboa
Ponce de León
Hernán Cortés
Francisco Pizarro
Hernando de Soto
Sarmiento Gamboa
Sebastián Vizcaíno

Navarrese:
J.Sebastián Elcano

Aragonese:
none!!

Non-Spanish:
Christofo Colon
Amerigo Vespucci
Fernando Magallanes

Unknown:
Alonso de Ojeda
Jofre de Loaisa
Francisco de Montejo
Cabeza de Vaca
Saavedra Cerón
Pánfilo de Narváez
Nuño de Guzmán
Hernando de Grijalva
Pedro de Mendoza
Jiménez Quesada
Vázquez Coronado
Pedro de Valdivia
Francisco de Orellana
Lope de Aguirre
Juan de Oñate
Váez de Torres
Silvestre de Escalante (Should be a conquistador, explored SW USA)
Gaspar de Portolá

Most of the explorers I could find info on came from Andalusia, and most of the conquistadors from Extremadurra.

Thats cool!

Here are my thoughts:

Spain forms without Aragon: As before

Castille keeps name, forms annexes Aragorn: Gets all leaders, events, monarch files of Spain.

For the player maybe:

Aragon annexes Castille, but chooses not to become spain: Gets all leaders, events, monarch files etc from Spain

Is this possible?

IMO, its more realistic, and prmotes some interesting unhistorical choices, which of course the hardcore hisotrian will hate!

It's (partly) possible, but requires the events, leaders and monarchs to be duplicated for all countries with unique ids...

I don't see why this should be done for monarchs though... If Aragon had conquered Castile - why would they choose the Castillan royals?

It will not be possible (at least not doable) with the events. Since there are numerous events tied in to Spain for other countries all of these must be duplicated, edited and so forth - That's a lot of events...

Elcano was from Guetaria. That's in Castile-Leon

I thought Guetaria = Guethary in Bearn.

Supporting the dead guy

I was playing as castile and the civil war event popped up...well low and behold, the population must really loveÁlvaro de Luna...they were willing to support him even after he'd been killed in Algiers several years before...

*sob* that's so touching to find people will support you in a war to make you their leader even when your long dead. *sob*

It's Francisco Xavier in Portuguese. If you switch it to Javier then turn Magallanes to Magalhães.
