Get to Infra 5 and kill my ridiculous inflation is priority number 1 right now. Also I think I will indeed have to release some vassals to get my BB down to a level where I have enough peace to achieve that. I have 200 years left to conquer.
Ridiculous isn't the most precise way of telling what it really is, so: what's your inflation right now? :D
What is the result of the option_b in the creation of different circles events?

That's enormous! If I were you, I'd do anything to get infra 5 now, while putting the treasury slider all the way left (which I always do, but from what it looks like you don't...).

I am pouring 100% into Infra right now. I do normally keep my slider to the left, when at peace anyway. Problem is I've been at war a fair bit over the past 100 years and I tend to mint a lot when at war, perhaps not wise, but oh well.

I just got level 4 and it says another 43 years to level 5. I may play it cool for a while, make a good alliance and stick to defensive wars while I pour everything into Infra. England or Russia would be nice for allies right now. I can live off my census even at -30 ducats per month.

I guess I should post another update soon though.

Georg I Wilhelm (1620-1640)

1620 - 6 months after Georg took the throne of Germany the king of Spain sent a diplomatic insult to Georg. Presumably he felt that the young emperor would take this rebuke without reply, but Georg was well schooled in diplomacy and war, and more than capable of running the empire. With the full might of Germany at his command and a powerful alliance to back him, he declared war on Spain, targeting the Spanish holdings in the lowlands and France.

1621 - Germany cavalry armies blitz the Spanish territories in France and soon, Paris, Calais, Artois, Geldre, Picardie and others are sieged. Bourgogne, Dauphine, Milan, Romagna and others follow. The Spanish have no answer to the superior tactics of the German generals. Province after province begins to fall.

1622 - Two years after the war begins, all of Spain's French, Dutch and Italian provinces have been captured by Germany. The king of Spain has been humiliated. But rather than risk further destruction and an invasion of his homeland he offers a peace treaty, one that will further change the shape of European maps.

Germany_1622.jpg

1625 - St. Olav's Church burns to the ground. Georg vows to rebuild it at once.

1626 - A rebellious year. Heretics arose in arms in Geldre and Salzburg, while peasant revolts began in several other provinces. The catholic heretics were rooted out, but with as little violence as possible. Peace was restored, though the catholics were not totally quelled.

1627 - The Christians in Ottoman occupied Hungary and the Balkans cried out for liberation, and being a good Christian, (and an eager conquerer) Georg heard their pleas. He declared war on the Ottoman Empire. The pattern of German warfare, you readers are by now well acquainted with. Blitz, cover, and siege. The Ottomans were stunned to have no less than 9provinces sieged with in months of each other: Magyar, Pest, Dalmatia, Banat, Croatia, Transylvania (Ottoman ally), Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria.

1628 - The initial phase complete, German armies moved against Ragusa, Albania, Macedonia, Morea, and Istanbul itself!

1631 - Instanbul falls! German armies move across the Bosporus and swiftly capture Anatolia and Smyrna. The Ottomans are in disarray, they've managed to hold some European provinces, as Georg's armies are stretched thin.

1632 - There is little battling going on anymore, neither empire can afford to raise troops and the war is at a stalemate, but the Ottoman's are too proud to accept they've been beaten. It will take some time to force them to accept a suitable peace.

1633 - It takes until November of 1633 for the Sultan to finally cave in. The Ottoman Empire cedes seven provinces to Germany.

Germany_1633.jpg

1633 - Spain declares war, seeing that Georg is weak and hoping to get their own back. Germany may be weak, but they are still enough of a match for Spain and her allies.

1635 - German armies have captured enough territory to gain a mutual tribute-less peace with Spain.

The peak of German power:
Germany_1636.jpg

1636 - Georg grants independence to the following nations: Switzerland, Croatia and Albania. This year marks the beginning of a different trend.

Russia declares war on Germany, with Poland as helper. Georg is well aware that inflation is skyrocketing, and the Bank of Germany is in deep trouble. Further wars will cause big problems at this point.

1638 - Fortunately, the formula for beating Poland in war has been established two hundred years earlier, by Friedrich I and Georg has studied the wars of his fathers. It takes two years and the temporary loss of Livland, but Poland is humbled once again. Georg opts for a monetary tribute only. New provinces will only pose new problems.

1639 - Ottoman Empire declares war again. Georg is pretty sure the problem is the fact that Germany holds Anatolia. Before the Ottoman armies even move against his nation he offers to return control of Anatolia to the Sultan. War is averted and peace restored.

1640 - Georg dies, leaving a new emperor in Friedrich V Wilhelm der Grohe. [Apologies, I forgot to take the screenie of that].

And that's where I'm at, I'm desperate to get to Infra 5 now, even if it takes the next 40 years of not doing much. So the next ruler or two might not get a lot to do.

@Wari Bana: Yeah, very silly of him.

Anyway update time...

Friedrich V Wilhelm der Grohe (1640-1688)

Friedrich knew right from the moment he took the crown that if Germany was to retain at the pinnacle of power, he would have to get its failing economy and skyrocketing inflation under control. He vowed to invest every penny in the national treasury to find a resolution to this problem, until such time as it was under control. Alas that he had inherited a realm full of unrest and instability. It seemed there was no end to the rebels and rabble-rousers.

1645 - Sweden declared war on Transylvania, without asking Friedrich's permission or opinion on the matter. Friedrich risked Germany's reputation with her allies against open war with the Ottoman Empire. He opted to follow Denmark's refusal to join the war. Still all the national investments went to infrastructure...

1649 - A great peasant rebellion took place, affecting the provinces greatly. It was all Friedrich could do to find enough troops to put down eight revolts... while still investing everything in infrastructure...

1650 - The new world had been open for 150 years, but Germany had not yet got her fingers in the pie. Friedrich sought out his allies, to see if they would part with their explorations, but despite Germany's knowledge of Eastern Europe, they would not hear of his offers.

1653 - Sweden declares war on Denmark, presumably still offended about the matter of 1645. Friedrich goes to Denmark's aid, mostly because he sees a fine opportunity to snap up some of Sweden's allies, namely Bohemia and Wallachia.

1654 - Wallachia is the first to succumb...

Germany_1654.jpg

1655 - Objective completed, Moravia are captured and Bohemia's princes have no choice but to submit to German overlords. Sweden also has had enough and brokers a white peace... and still everything is invested in infrastructure...

Germany_1655.jpg

1657 - Friedrich commissioned a cathedral. Germany rejoiced, and the populate calmed down. Rebelliousness hit lows that had not been seen in decades.

1658 - The Edict of Tolerance is issued, and Catholics and Protestants set their most stringent differences aside. Friedrich supports the Edict, particularly as it will aid his political aspirations in the future... and still not a penny goes elsewhere but to infrastructure...

Germany_1658.jpg

1659 - Papal States convert to Catholic! [OK too funny, I missed when they converted to something else in the first place. Wish I'd taken screenies of those events.]

1665 - Friedrich opted not to aid Denmark in a war against Russia and Poland. Russia is not an adversary Germany is prepared to deal with at this time. It is too difficult to take provinces off Russia to gain favourable treaties. Maybe in the future... and still all Germany's money is poured into infrastructure research...

1673 - The Bohemian princes are offered positions of administration inside the greater German state. Since their realm is not in their home territory of Bohemia anyway, they accept. Moravia is added to Germany.

Germany_1673.jpg

1674 - Germany goes to war with Denmark against Norway, but Friedrich does not move a single soldier to the north, nor change his research patterns at all. The Norwegians will eventually pay for peace, he knows. And one year later they do, offering a meager 22 ducats. But Norway is poor so Friedrich accepts.

1676 - France gets a little carried away in its claims over former Burgundian lands. England, Netherlands and Germany have none of it. All three have legitimate causes for war. Friedrich immediately commissions new armies in the heartland and mobilizes on the French borders. All without moving a penny out of infrastructure research...

Germany_1676.jpg

1678 - All is ready, German armies are massed on the borders, against inferior French troops. Friedrich sends a token declaration and then his troops surge into France. There are setbacks but by June northern France is occupied and under siege. Portugal, France's ally, chooses to assail Germany's Greek possessions. Friedrich allows them to siege Hellas. It can be reconquered. The French siege Calais and Savoie, and are allowed to do so. They will also be retaken later. It is part of the plan.

1679 - Paris is captured, and in it a great treasure. French maps! They show a lone rich province uncolonized. German colonists head for Connecticut and reach it months later.

Germany_1679.jpg

1680 - France offers Normandie, Champagne, Nivernais and Orleans as tribute. Friedrich accepts, rather gleefully. The French are humiliated.

1681 - With Hellas recaptured, the Portuguese offer terms as well, and pay Friedrich 96 ducats in tribute. All in all a successful war for Germany, and not a single ducat, nor even a penny has moved from the infrastructure research budget.

1682 - Lithuania have been weak for a long time, and just recently crushed again by the Poland - Russia alliance. Friedrich offers them a solution...

Germany_1682.jpg

1686 - An exceptional year! There is a reprieve in the inflation. For the third time in the last 4 decades deflation occurs! [Also had two Deflation events.]

1688 - Friedrich V dies, but fear not, for there is yet another Friedrich to reign over Germany... and still all Germany's research investments go to infrastructure...

Germany_1688.jpg

Almost there now, 5 years to go or so, and as you can see I'm stockpiling cash so I can invest in as many governors as I can. I even managed to gain some territory and reach the new world while investing 100% in infra non-stop. Pretty decent I think. Too bad most of the new world I can see is already colonized. I'll still get a piece of it.

I don't think it is too late... as long as it's under 5000 it can be changed right? Edit - it's too late for most of them. There are still some that could be, watch the next update to see if I try.

This update is screenshot heavy. Hope it's not too much...

Friedrich VI (1688-1713)

Friedrich VI's father had spent his entire reign trying to find a way to solve the problem of high inflation in the empire. He had died without doing so, but still he had managed to expand the empire, even establishing the first German colonies in the New World. Friedrich was determined to conclude his father's affairs. There would be an end to inflation during his reign, he vowed.

1691 - Economic forecasters around the empire rejoiced as years of research finally paid dividends...
Germany_1691.jpg

Friedrich, with stores of gold stockpiled, immediately set to work...
Germany_1691b.jpg

1692 - A second colony is founded on Lake Ontario. The new colony is called Oshawa. A year later, a third colony, Sebago, is established on the other side of the lake.

1695 - The last provinces of the empire of Lithuania, a kingdom which has slowly been overrun by Poland and Russia, are absorbed into the German Empire. Lithuania is too small to protect itself, and its princes hatred for its two adversaries runs so deep they choose to spite them by joining Germany. Friedrich agrees.
Germany_1695.jpg

1701 - Ten years after the inflation solution, Germany is very slowly beginning to creep the inflation rate back down. It will be a long process though.

The colonial new world in 1701:

The German Empire in Europe, 1701:
Germany_1701c.jpg

1703 - A colonial uprising saw Oshawa rebel. With no access to the colony, the German forces in Connecticut could only watch helplessly. On the home front, after some persuasion Venice joined Germany's alliance with Denmark, Switzerland and Netherlands. And then in November...
Germany_1703.jpg

1704 - Friedrich had suddenly struck on a new strategy for expansion in Europe. If Venice was willing to be vassalized, what about Denmark?
Germany_1704.jpg

1705 - And the Netherlands too?
Germany_1705.jpg

1707 - Oshawa defects to France. Friedrich makes a mental note to gain recompense for this. But more immediately, Friedrich decides that the Swiss should no longer be independent. It isolates Savoie too much. The Swiss agree, without a fuss.
Germany_1707.jpg

1712 - Not having forgotten about the Oshawa Incident, Friedrich declares war on France. With Paris isolated and surrounded by Germany it takes little time to siege the capital. But more importantly the French have left their colonies unprotected. A single German regiment marches through Upper and Lower Canada. In September, Paris falls and France offers terms...
Germany_1712.jpg

1713 - Friedrich VI passes into glory, leaving Friedrich VII to rule:

Friedrich VII Wilhelm der Soldatenkaiser (1713)

The new emperor is already ill when he is crowned in February. He only lives until July.
Germany_1713b.jpg

So thus ends another successful reign. I gained some provinces in the new world, most of them I can't convert to german culture alas. But oh well, my colonial possessions look better. And diplomatic expansion in Europe continues apace...

Stay tuned!

You are doing really well. The collapse of France surely assisted the formation of Germany. Spain must be a slight thorn in the side though. How is their colonization?

I've had to push Spain back a few times but they've not been a real problem. My wars with them have been mostly of my own choosing. As for colonies, yes Spain is large, they have colonies all of their half of south America, Mexico and a lot of the southern USA, plus sundry other locations. England has a lot also, and France did until I took most of it.

Thanks for the comments.
