Many cons are pros for me:

--Army matientience out of sight.
--fortress expansion also hideously expensive
--Stability irritatingly difficult to maintain
--2 wars needed to take 2-province countries

It is more challenging, more realistic. How could it be more dull?

I am learning the joys of keeping a non-zero treasury. Paying cash on hand or taking a loan > taking stab hits assuming you have high stab costs. :)

Missionaries are good also for reducing your stability costs. The non-state religion penalty to stab costs gets painful fast.

Wow! There are still living people in here.

I never said it was dull. I see you point on the challenge as well, by the mid-1500s I'm starting to get the hang of warfare, EU2-style. In one of my earlier wars, I forgot I'd put maintentience at 50% before sending the troops to battle--it wasn't pretty :( . By now, I keep a smallish army during peacetime and go on a recruiting spree when I'm preparing to declare war. I also genrally try to keep money in the treasury in case I need to hire a drill instructor, build a cathedral, etc.

EU2 isn't great in other aspects though. A lot of historical conquests don't happen like the Aztecs and Incas for Spain and so far the Ottomans can't handle taking the Mamelukes out.

I find that the OE and Spain perform better in the 1492 start. With the GC is more of a crapshooot.

Probably so but I like getting my full 400 years!

Goodness me, BUY VICTORIA ALREADY.

A few pros for eu2
1.added diplo options
2.added nations
3.more historic events.

Other than that EU1 kicks EU2 ass.

in eu2 it might be an idea to DoW all the great powers and occupy all their provinces without a peace deal, then you can safely pluck one country at a time without having to fight 3 powerful alliances at all times because of the BB accumulated from DoW-ing a large country 10 times or more...

Eu was the game which started it all. Was it not for its popularity, Paradox and strategy first would never have been able to launch such games as HOI, EU2, and Vicky.

Do not dis the grandpappy of the worlds best games...nor its loyal fans...tho far and few

Oh why was this thread resurrected after 9 MONTHS of being completley inactive? :p

I did somewhat suggest it was better than creating all new threads in the same subject that existed just a few pages back, but your other post was nice enough to be a (second to) last one.
