Communication from Eugen's top management :

It sounds like Trump when he tries to convince himself that he is the best man in the world.

Google translate:

Hello,
As you read in the press and on social networks, 21 of the 44 employees of Eugen Systems
have been on strike since February 14 afternoon. It seemed necessary to provide some elements
to understand the situation.
The working week at Eugen Systems is 38.5 hours. As specified in each contract
the gross annual remuneration of each employee includes, on the one hand, the remuneration for
35 hours of work, as well as any overtime hours within the limit of 1.72 hours per
week. In addition, each employee has 1 day of RTT per month, which he can
take when he wants, even by half-day.
Payrolls, which are usually sent on time to employees, have been
exceptionally sent late for the January pay. On the one hand because of the
simplification of the pay statement related to the latest legislative reforms involving complications
for the preparation of pay slips. On the other hand an update on the presentation of newsletters
to mention the actual hours completed. As such, each employee received a letter
explanatory.
The wages were paid on time at the usual pay date.
We would like to point out that the company Eugen Systems respects perfectly the minimum wages
for all employees, and in any case made regularizations when it was
necessary.
We noticed an error update on the payslip of 2 employees, which will be well
obviously corrected on the payroll of February 2018.
There is no crunch culture at Eugen Systems. It happened once, in 2010 during the
publication of RUSE, that the management requests 3 employees to stay to work one day,
a Saturday: This day of work helped to ensure the stability of the servers and the smooth running of the
launch of the game. Since then we have released 5 games, and this never happened again.
Finally, the Directorate endeavors to communicate with the staff representatives during the
meetings, and internal discussions are currently underway regarding the classification of
some employees. They will continue until an agreement is reached.
As exchanged with staff delegates at the meeting of December 2017, Eugen
Systems organizes, starting next week, the annual and professional interviews of
collaborators, which will allow a time of exchange with each one.
Thank you for your attention,
Eugen Systems

I would have thought that anybody working on this game in a western country would be well compensated. Be paid well above minimum wage.

isn't the workers but management

This is the case in any labor dispute. Make your workers work as hard, as long, and for as little, as you possibly can. That's capitalism. Giving workers a relaxed schedule and generous pay is antithetical and only happens when there are strong unions and labor laws to force it.

I would have thought that anybody working on this game in a western country would be well compensated. Be paid well above minimum wage.

I too would have expected game developers to have a salary, not clocking hours for minimum wage.

Eugen Systems strikers respond to their management's statement
Posted on 16/02/2018

We relay again a statement of our strikers comrades Eugen Systems.

The press release issued yesterday by Eugen Systems on all its networks seems to us to be a public demonstration of the reasons that led to this strike.

At the moment the management has not come back to us yet, and prefers to publish a denial, which is, once again, to deny certain facts, to ignore others, to pretend mistakes and to make empty promises.

This does not surprise us, since the negation of the problem is the systematic response of management since the beginning of our attempts to discuss.

We are once again asked to trust, and to wait a bit to resolve the issues raised. We have lost confidence in our employer and HR practice to advance our interests, both of whom have demonstrated their goal on several occasions: not having to apply our rights, not having to pay wages according to the rules in force, divide the employees and suppress all disputes.

All deadlines that our interlocutors claim since the beginning of the discussions fifteen months ago aim to save time, because if there is a proposal, it will be an explanation for not having to pay what is due to us. .

The last argument, that is, the mistake of good faith, is simply inaudible, with respect to issues raised more than a year ago in an official way, and which have been present in the company for as long as we can remember it. These problems were already present while the company had no staff delegate to raise them.

The management claims to make a special effort in communicating with the staff representatives. Yet, it took a letter signed by the vast majority of employees in November 2017 to take into account the remarks that these delegates convey.

The last individual interviews were conducted without a written record and were an opportunity to put pressure on employees for whom the conventional minima were not respected so that they sign riders to their disadvantage. Therefore the announcement of these upcoming talks does not reassure us absolutely.

We are currently recalling the claims for which we went on strike. We demand an immediate regularization of the following points:

Conventional minima not applied
Classifications (grades and coefficients) due and unallocated
Vacation bonuses not paid for many years
Non-compliance with current laws on working time
Decrease in our gross wages at least from January 2018 to include previously undeclared overtime, attempting to move this action for rectification of accounting error when the problem was reported in the spring of 2017 - this decrease shift some wages below the conventional minima
Compensation in full during the strike period

In addition, we immediately demand that convocations be stopped in individual meetings of striking employees to question them on this subject. This is a questioning of the right to strike, which is intolerable.

In the same way, the management, which has explicitly indicated to some colleagues that it identifies union employees as proven enemies of the company, assumes a clear position: the denial of workers' right to organize.

Finally, we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts the people who participate in the strike fund organized by the STJV, as well as those who send their messages of support by email, twitter, facebook, forums, speech ... Your solidarity did not go unnoticed. Thank you.

Surely they will find new workers to develop SD. This is new, great game, so it would be big loss to leave it without patch or dlc, or another part (eastern front). Am I right?

Oh yeah, let's hope Eugen finds new interns they can underpay, ignoring the French law. That surely is the best scenario for everyone!

Of course not:) It is good when they allow themself to do strike, and they can easy find new good job. They should fight for them laws. But it is funny for me when someone earn twice more average guy from my country and start strike. Maybe in the future in my country will be better and more normal like in western lands. I did not want to offend anyone. Sorry guys:)

From this post i can see that you didnt clearly understand why Eugen workers strike or you are trolling.Read it again, understand and then try to think its funny, its shocking sad and has nothing to do with how much people earn compared to other countrys.

It's dumb, cost of life is not the same in your country. Paris is expensive as fuck.

In my country it happends that for overtimes employers give free days instead of money. I'm father and husband and i haven't high salary. Life in Poland isn't cheap too. We have cheap only junk food. I told you if they can strike and they can win it' s ok.

Workers complain when have to work 40 hours per week. Im my country (Poland) I had to work 50 h/week and i didn't strike...
... and what would you do if your employer paid you (and your colleagues) for 35 hours but promised to give you time off or pay later for working 50 hours but 15 months later was still making empty promises and now owed you 100's of hours of unpaid overtime (or weeks of time off).

Sometimes as a project lead / team manager, you might accept such treatment but you'll usually be salaried/well paid, not near the minimum wage (not that it's right). It looks like Eugen HR pushed 'custom and practice' to their employees breaking point but I don't know particulars of their dispute.

Walking out / taking strike action is never good, everyone loses but sometimes it's the only thing left, if your employer doesn't take a problem seriously. It's just a shame it's become public, rather than sorted out in a prompt and professional manner - as it hardens positions and makes a negotiated resolution harder.
