Hello.

Just started playing today as Portugal and its just impossible. In a period of 50 years i have had like 30 wars or more. The AIs keep dowing and redowing. Atjeh for example DOWed. I managed to WP the bastards since i didnt want their provinces. They Re-dow right after the truce and this time i take all their provinces except the capital. Guess what - after the peace is signed they re-dow once more (this time they didnt even wait for truce... wierd). This time i annex them. I guess the AI is sadomasochist.

The worst is absolutely Deccan. Running amock with 60k regiments by 1550 and with mighty forts everywhere. Portugal with less then 20 MP doesnt stand a chance. I have fought a couple of years and my WE rose up to 10 and i had revolts everywhere and consequently my MI dropped by half.

Right after i sign a peace treaty i get another bastard attacking me and thus i cant get rid of the WE. I am still amazed that Spain hasnt attacked me yet since i took half of their territory at the start of the game. But apart from that i have had pretty much of Asia running amock trough my lands. The funniest thing is that my BB isnt higher then 5 and was never higher then 10.

Now i got 2 questions...

1º My current game dificulty/agressiveness is Normal/Normal. What should i be playing with? Or is the AI just suposed to play nuts against human players?
2º Did anyone actually have any sucess playing Portugal?

the recomended settings are in the EP post or redme, its not normal/normal i think.

when i played porto I started out much slower than you did I think, the first 80 years I kept the smallest army possible, a small fleet (you get loads and loads of ships for free) and slowly colonised my way down africa and brazil, trying to get the key ones first.

Leone is your nr 1 priority, but fernando po, cap verde and a foot hold in brazil and south africa are nice.

when the portuguese explosion comes ( the Elmina event) youre set to take everything you want (Goa, cochin, Aden, malacca, atjeh, zanzibar, mombasa). and then fight for about 150 years straight to keep it. eventually the dutch and brits will join in on the fun. (against you that is). Trying to cripple Deccan is hard, since it may lead to them being gobbled up by the mughals, thus making an even stronger foe marching against you.

be ready to meet huge high tech, high morale armies in india, deccan and mughals are a pain, aceh can be quite mean and the ottomans will dow over and over if you keep aden. thankfully large enough fortresses can save you in Aden, kutch, malacca and in many other places.

try to not eat up more than you can defend and be prepared to defend you gains basicly forever. if you manage to ride this out for about 200 years then you can get friendly with the english and it becomes a lot easier.

also, EP heavily rewards historical gameplay, expand when your supposed to and dont cripple spain early since that makes for a boring endgame.

Yeah well i did a second run and things got a lot better. I guess that so many multiplayer games made me forget how easy it was to peace the AI.

Just fought a war versus the English-Dutch. The bastards had a terrible amount of warships running around. Defensive wars seem to be darned easy nevertheless, but only if you settle for a WP or give the AI some cash. It has been impossible for me to go on the offensive against countries like the OE. The bastards got maximum forts everywhere (by 1580!).

Last time i sieged a maximum fort (the one in Atjeh), it took me a couple of years, even with a constant naval blockade.

Well, i didnt do much at the start too. I just got about 110 galleys built, which were done around 1430 and then set sail for asia. Once Bartolomeu Dias came out i was already on Japan. In the meanwhile, the Castilians got in a war vs France somehow, and then i (allied with Aragon-England) took full use of the oportunity to reduce the bastards to one province. So, i hold basically all of Castilian's former lands except 2 provinces in the north and Toledo. My manpower pool is still ridiculous (around 20-30).

All seems well anyway, i guess i was exagerating when i said playing portugal was impossible. My MI is almost on 400 by 1580 and i havent lost a single province yet. Great mod anyway - its just a bit stressful at first try!

Oh and thanks for the reply.

Just finished the game as Portugal - damn, that was awesome.

But, the tech costs for Infra/Trade 10 were terribly huge and impossible to reach even by 1819. Why?

I recently finished a game as sweden. must say that the first 150 years a really a challenge. basicly I needed to grab 3 COT in the baltics rapidly just to keep up techwise with denmark and russia. off course it gets easier when Gustav II comees around, but then its still a match playing with the big boys ( the dutch hated my guts for some reason).

Yeah the AI techs as crazy. Specially Spain-France-England-Dutch and even Portugal. Playing Austria now... Almost no trade income at start really hurts. Hopefully i managed to DA Venice and Genoa and grab Danzig-Mecklenburg and sign some lucky TAs with England-France, which gave me some goodie free monos in their colonial COTs (which have no competition).

That is what i found really profitable - sign TA's with the big countries before their AI file changes. Countries like France-England wont accept TAs later on, but they will at the start of the game.

In my latest game as Portugal, i had TAs with France-Spain-England-Holland... I barely had any competition. :)

Of course, i had to embargo some nasty nations like Mughals (these guys kept pestering my asian COTs!) but it was worthwhile.

Hello, I'm going to report two bugs in the EP1.9.2.

1) The "text.csv" has an unnecessary line break in ITA_DESC.

2) Can you move land units into Karelia from Kexholm or Olonets? I think the "adj-defs.csv" includes some bugs. Shoud it be fixed as below?

Code:
[COLOR=Red]266;1470;normal;0;Bugfixing
267;1470;normal;0;Bugfixing[/COLOR]
[COLOR=Yellow]1470;266;normal;0;Bugfixing
1470;267;normal;0;Bugfixing[/COLOR]
Checking and fixing them would be appreciated.

I love the mod so far, btw, just a question.

Is there any way to use this with the time extension mod or somehow extend the time frame past 1820? I rarely go for WC but in my vanilla games I like to finish up a few things and usually never have time to without the EU2 Unlimited Time mod, the one that can be found here:

Is there any way to us this with EP or is there another way to extend the time frame past 1820?

I haven't done it in a while, but if I remember correctly, you still need to change the scenario's end date. You can do this either in the scenario file or in the save game (look in the globaldata section for something like "enddate = { year = 1819 month = december day = 29 }" ).

That works to an extent, but it still stops the game at 1820 and ends it because of the victory factor. No matter what option you select the game ends at that time. I think the mod did something to remove that but I'm not sure what.

And one more suggestion...

The numbers of ";" in these texts are wrong in EP1.9.2.

Additionally, KHM_DESC and EVENTHIST6979 include some curious characters such as below. I think they also should be replaced normal characters.

Recommended settings is Very Hard/Coward (or whatever the lowest aggressiveness lvl is called). Coward is very important, according to the FAQ, because otherwise the AI acts in a self destructive manner. Don't worry you will still get DoW'ed a lot, most wars are scripted to happen, I think on their historical dates.

How do you install this mod? I download the 1.92 rar version and unpack it in the Eu2 folder, and I get a new folder with EP. Should I just take everything from that new folder and copy paste it into the old Eu2 folders?

Or is there a nother way

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the folders, but you should end up with an EP folder in your main EU2 folder. Do you know how to do moddir shortcuts?
