Any chance the community can get some influence in the choice for the next unit pack? Or will it be tied to DLC like in El Dorado? Would love a Italy one, giving Venice, Milan, Napals, Florance and Savoy some units.

We do read your suggestions and input in these threads! Even if we cant reply to wishes and say yes or no it doesn't mean that we don't listen :)

If you feel that an empire, country, duchy, or OPM deserves their own set of units we'd love to hear that since it does get mentioned when we go to plan what to do next. Even if there's a strong want for specific units it also competes with what realms are most played and what fits with coming content. Though big content packs like Common Sense have let us spread about a little more lately and do more than one area at a time. In that case touching European nations, Theocracies and even take our first jab at filling out Asia in one go.

I've made a note of your wish to have Italy be given some love and will be mentioning it when we sit down to discuss what comes next.

If you or anyone else has any more ideas or suggestions feel free to shoot me a PM ;)

I have just converted a two-handed sword weapon model. Anyone interested in making mods with this?

Nice swords! Try it but with the Idle animation used by the standard Eastern lvl 2 units instead. Might be a better idle for the two handed pose even if it's intended for a rifle. =)

These units look great Carlberg, but what of the Evangelical Majors? What of the Swedes? What of the French? WHAT OF THE PRUSSIANS! And the Catholic Majors? What of the Austrians? What of the Spaniards? What of the Poles!
I don't know if Carlberg would know. He is an artist and that decision would be up to marketing :/
Things like release dates of new packs and such Is indeed above me to decide, but I do prod about these things just as much as you do here on the forum and have raised the question quite a few times myself. Trust me that there's plans and it has not been totally forgotten in the ether.

Well if that's the case, Mr. Calberg, I hear that some of the North African Units, due to popular protest, are getting a makeover. Could the Polish Units (not to mention the Ottomans & Byzantines), specifically Tier III and IV likewise be edited? Don't wanna sound like I'm beating a dead horse by re-posting this, but just wanna make sure it's constantly on your alls radar ;)
Ah the polish units, those were one of the first units I worked on when I was hired by Paradox in 2014. As it is right now they aren't really scheduled to be fixed, when made they had to follow the dynamic colors that were applied, and the blue wasn't in the palette for Poland/Commonwealth then. We were a bit more conservative with giving 'hard colored' textures to units, that is, painting the color into the texture, and thus preventing dynamic coloring. I've seen this post come up a few times though and I can raise the question if we might be able to go back and look at it. I can however give no promises that it's a change that will happen, or when it would be done in such a case. For now it's a fix that might be up to modders to look at.

Can you tell me why I couldnt cloning units from the italian and german princess unit packs to minor states like Brabant, Liege etc.
Unlike the last 2-3 dlc(I think in Cossack dlc its working yet), just the oldest unit packs can be cloneable.
Is it possible to solve this issue because I like to add to the minor nations more unique look.

We've not added anything to make units un-clone able, if you're adding clone code through a mod or right into the game, it might be that the clone needs a 'version = 2" row or similar to make sure it overwrites the original unit assigned. The error log tends to tell if there's a conflict of units.

The artist is Bakuel, the game is IV. That's always the best in the series, right? :D
All his units are both very historic and of superb quality.
Btw, he has released many hundreds of units (probably close to 1000), it's worth checking it out.

This is his SEAsian thread where these units are referenced, among many more:
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/armies-of-asia.542839/

And this is his Indian unit collection, just to have one of his another threads too:
(pictures are under the separate links)
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/bakuels-indian-units.475000/

Those are some nice characters, just a shame visiting these forum threads when they've aged and the thorough reference gathering they've done links to now defunct sources. Thus, images being lost.

Considering the Hansa no longer exists as a country, does its unit pack now apply to Lübeck instead? The Steam description page still says Hansa. Surely that needs changing - you're selling something that doesn't do what it says on the tin!

It should indeed be used by Lübeck instead since the Hansa was turned into a trade league instead. I've notified the team and they'll see about updating the Steam page to reflect that change. Thanks for making us aware of it! :)

Why Hungary don't have own unit models?

when we will get balkan renders ? :D :p

Yeah, the Balkan + Hungary are the biggest empty space in Europe if we speak about unique models :(

I've been unhappy ever since Theodoro and Circassia got unique models, leaving Trebizond to languish on its lonesome.

Balkan+Hungary/Georgia+Trebizond are begging for renders

If we ever get to the Hungarians, Balkans and Caucasus it would be an interesting challenge to find references for. If any of you know of any specific references for those areas feel free to post them in this thread or for any other areas of the world as well that we haven't covered yet. (Makes my job a little easier ;)). We keep a folder with any references that can be of use down the line in future unit packs.

If we start on one or all of the areas I know I'd want to get the Black legion/army in as the first tiers for Hungary, probably add some type of Grenzers to the Balkans area for the later tier of units. Since the areas were under Hapsburg or Ottoman control for much of the timeline it'll be interesting to try and extrapolate some plausible designs for them. Heh, Trebizond would be it's own kind of headache, like Theodoro, since I doubt it has much more than the Byzantine legacy to go on. Maybe we could do a take that's more about restoring Rome for them, units that could clone for the Roman Empire tag as well.

It's fun musing about what we could be doing in the future, and I hope we can close all gaps.

One question. When you say references, are you speaking about books?

Probably also historically accurate reconstructions and depictions based on descriptions of armor and such.

Aye, I use reference as a blanket term for anything depicting, or sometimes describing, the uniform and attires. As an artist it's a bit easier to work from visual guides ;)

Sources like Ospreys Men-At-Arms series have been used to help guide the design of many units. (Arguably a book, but with pictures!)

@Carlberg
Thanks for adding Dharma and RB to the OP, but when will we get to see the rest of the Dharma renders? It was really odd to only show some of them..

Sadly I've shifted over to another project and haven't had the time to post the render pictures myself. It's a duty that'll be handled by the EU4 team going forward, might be that they want to handle it differently and reveal them in several Dev Diaries. Either way I don't think you'll have to wait long to see the remaining ones for Dharma =)
