I'm mostly playing against the AI in Skirmish and the campaign and I gotta say the AI is shockingly challenging and- gasp!

... Smart!! :O

I'm getting a lot of enjoyment, challenge and replayability just offline.

I would love if Eugen added more campaign missions (like they have with previous war games) and ESPECIALLY a more Risk/Total War style campaign like in AirLand Battle

SD is the best RTS about WWII in my opinion, but all my criticism is about promised things and not realised/or realised pretty bad. As example: terrible matchmaking shares the same playerbase with ranked, and lack of optimization.

I love this game, it's fun, I enjoy it just as much if not more than any of the Wargames, but it was executed poorly and its on life support in respect to its player numbers unfortunately.

Long may it live!
I agree. I think Wargame has been one of the finest RTS series, and I think Steel Division is probably the finest example of the series (well ok it's not a "Wargame" game but I believe that's because Focus hold the copyright to that name or something, it's spiritually tied). I like the more aggressive style of play and I think the new mechanics they've added have largely been a boon to gameplay.

Is very good game. Much better unit diversity and deck building options over previous eujin releases. Conquest is amazing and a huge step in the right direction and the phase system is really cool. Love playing both sides but favor allied decks a bit more. 10/10 game.

....pls add good matchmaker so I can find match and not pubstomp

I think Eugen needs to decide what they want to do with Steel Division.

Either try to make a game for the Wargame fanbase (which it was intended to be) or go more into "realism". They tried both and neither aspect worked out very well, they made an even more niche game than Wargame already was.

Many of its concepts are big improvements over the ones of WRD. But the game is very unpolished.

In this way it is very much like WEE which was a big improvement in mechanics over RUSE in many ways, yet had still many flaws. Hell, it did not have a reverse-command for tanks.

In many ways this game reminds me of WEE, in a good way.

"What WRD community wants" vs "more realism" is a false dichotomy.

This game just draws me in compared to COH. Yes COH and other WW2 genre games have a big following, but something about those games just don't stimulate my WW2 mojo. Something about building decks and using different strategies for maps makes the game very fun.

Re: Coh2, I chatted with Imperial Dane and a bunch of people on his twitch about why they did/didn't like SD44(while also teaching him how to 1v1 VS brits using osties because he wouldn't stfu about how op brits were....) and the general response was that they hated how they no clue wtf was going on due to lack of coh2 style verbal feedback. He literally complained on stream about how his tank in SD44 would move forward, die, and there'd be no verbal feedback explaining wtf just happene which left them completely confused about how to handle the situation.

Another complaint was boring, which given all the exciting graphical stuff going on in coh2 makes sense.

This dude is one of the big coh2 streamers and a total history wanking ostheer fan boy who loves talking about German divisions. If Eugen couldn't grab him with a game literally intended to cater to new players who exist in that niche (aka him and his thousands of fans) they should probably figure out how to fix it by reaching out to the less competitive coh2 streamers (the heavy competitive ones are into the micro which is just never gonna be at the same level in SD or WG) and asking what they could change to make it more appealing to those guys.

Perfect plan? No. But it might help polish thing game into something that can grab a few of the players from a game with 4-6k daily simultaneous who are looking for their next RTS obsession now that coh2 is getting long in the tooth.

I had no clue what was going on at one point. What did I do? I watched replays of where I got owned. I learned from mistake after mistake after mistake. Over time I got better and could handle situations, instead of getting stressed out. I don't know this streamer, but it seems his mind was already made up before he played 5 games. If you want to see ooooo and aaaaaa explosions going on every 2 seconds go watch a Michael bay movie.

You can say l2p all you want, but at some point if people aren't learning 2 play, there's something wrong here at the design or ui level.

I learned to play by watching replays and watching VulcanHDGaming on Youtube. I see he participates in league matches (ESL), so he has a better than the average person understanding on what it takes to be good at a game. IMO, he saw a game a little more complex than COH, did not see any pretty explosions, and left. Just my two cents.

I think a better question to ask is, who actually though Imperial Dane would fully embrace a new game? Him and a few others from the COH 2 community have made their name playing that game series, switching to a new game from a smaller developer ( compared to SEGA ) with a smaller community ( less views and less money ) is a bad decision for them. Without the same visual immersion that COH 2 has that SD gives up, for more strategic and historical immersion, they would lose large numbers of their viewers who want just watch - not pay attention.

It's just like a new TV series that everyone says " Oh, it's such a good show and you should watch it." Yet I already have my shows that I enjoy watching. Why should I switch? Why would I want to? Why would I even want to be convinced?

Looking to these streamers to promote a new game isn't the way to approach expanding the series. IMO this game needs to promote it's own experts and dedicated players who care as much about this game as he cares about COH 2 and it's voice acting.

The biggest drain on this game is the community of players who came from Wargame and didn't embrace Steel Division. Instead of just accepting that they dislike the game, they continue to come here and bash it in public, endlessly. Giving new customers or players to this series game type a bad initial impression and a head start looking in the other direction because of the negativity and elitism. Between the reviews, forum posts and the random "general chat room question: is the game dead? - while sitting in the game lobby asking the question" it really has to stop.

Steel Division needs a few things. Maps, some balance, some tweaks and some extra content - all over time. This game is what I assume to be the first of an entire series that will encompass a few theaters and time periods. I'm going to be patient and see where this goes and enjoy the game in the mean time.

Disagree. The game is not easy to pick up nor is it made to fill a place in the casual section of your steam library. Not every game has to be redesigned because the learning curve is too steep for some people.

VulcanHDGaming, SaucyNetwork, and Bubblebox are people who come to my mind that record and post videos on Youtube with the game. Not trying to give Vulcan a big head, but his videos alone helped me through the "skill wall" that I was in. I would watch how he plays and take what I see with some of my own playing style and I got better. Even reading the comment sections of his videos you see countless people saying they bought the game because of him.
If I knew how to do the Youtube scene I would help, but that's another "skill wall" I would have to bash through ;)
