- Are you using a laptop?
<edit> a laptop without external keyboard attached perhaps?
- What version of HOI are you playing?
- Does not a single F key work...? Never? I think I have seen some file(s) related to these keys.... have you reinstalled the game (+latest version)?

No. Just a normal P4 2.4, 512DDR Ram PC.
I play the original version from the CD. Haven't installed any updates so far.
Non of the F-keys works. They did work for one day. When I restarted my comp the next day they didn work again. They didn't work from the start after installing the game. And then one day I used a cheat code in EU2 and then switched to playing HoI. And all of the sudden they worked for the rest of the day. But after I restarted the comp the next day they didn't work anymore on either HoI or EU2. :(

The whole scheme of events seems odd... One would almost guess that you - or someone - has changed something in the system in between any of your gaming sessions. That this is not a bug in HOI (and therefor the wrong forum) but a support issue.
A general advise would be to try to provide more details, such as what Windows version you have, maybe even what BIOS and then confirm that you have installed and updated anti-vira/spyware removal apps available (but perhaps not running while playing).
I am very reluctant to mentioning "computer virus" as a factor, but I have seen a handful PC-gaming issues been solved when various viruses have been removed from the player PC. And "virus" protection is never a bad idea. Spyware removal may be a very good add on, as some Trojan’s may not been recognized as "virus" by ordinary antivirus programs.

If you press F6 in the game(s) and nothing happens, I would consider reinstalling the game(s) and getting the latest game version(s).
Maybe there is a single, specific, file that is 'broken' and can be fixed, but I am afraid I don't have any details ready at hand and can only give a general advise.

So, as I wrote, have you now reinstalled HOI and also added the latest version? Why play the old version? Have you a specific reason for that? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. As a rule of thumb, you should always go for the latest version as long as you don't have a specific (usually advanced) reason for not doing that.

Yeah, I notice you have the same problem in EU2, but it wouldn't hurt to try a fix for HOI first by reinstalling AND getting the latest version. Perhaps it doesn't fix the problem, but it may narrow it down and also fix other potential problems.

What Keyboard do you use?
Does it have a Flock key in the top right corner?

I was looking more for brand an model. :)
Anyway I assume you have used the F-lock key in the correct position when trying to access the function keys right?

If that lock key hasn't been touched too much :p , maybe its a crappy keyboard...?
Perhaps I missread one of the previous post... I thought the keys worked outside those two games, but if they don't, well its perhaps a different story.
Borrow another keyboard and test with... or dug up tech support info on the brand/model (as Castellon ask for). The back side of the keyboard perhaps?
Keyboard are inexpensive but obviously important.

Heck, I used to have several old keyboards laying around, looking for - and favouring - the right hack-on-keyboard feeling (very important). The sound and -eh- feeeling needed to be right

Oh. It's a Logitech keyboard. And in which position should the F-lock key be in?
The opposite position?

Sorry
Seriously, if that does not work, what model was it? You only wrote the brand. They, Logitech, have a number of models and I belive some of them are a bit more special than others and may also have special utilities for advanced settings (not required then).

Is your keyboard cordless? Pretty common nowdays I guess.

Mine looks like an Logitech acces one. It's not cordless.
I would guess that Castellon has a point with the F-lock thingie.
Here is what Logitech's Lisa says if you haven't asked her allready:
"With some keyboards, the F-Lock feature is on by default, meaning the F keys will function as F1, F2, F3, etc. Pressing the F-Lock button will enable the shortcut functions of the F keys. You can turn off the F-lock function by pressing the F-Lock key, but you cannot disable it upon bootup.
On other keyboards, the F-Lock feature defaults to the setting you last had. For example if you shut down your system with F-Lock on, when you reboot, it will still be on. This is mostly true for corded keyboards with the F-Lock feature."
Well, that would describe the general idea of how it is supposed to work...

Back to your problem:
Am I correct; this problem only happens in those two games? Not in Windows, not in other applications, not in other games?

If that is true, I would guess there is some problem with a Logitech software and Paradox usage of Direct Input, which would probably be implemented in a similiar way in those two games. I haven't looked into it, but I think it is possible to check what Direct Input function calls are used in some games. The most likely solution anyway is to either check those Logitech issues and be sure to reinstall and upgrade any Logitech software OR just try another, plain, keyboard.

If not true, well, there were more than one issue with that keyboard (Logitech Access, corded) in Logitechs knowledgebase...

If you use Windows 2000 or XP, maybe this could be of interest:

If you see some sort of error message in Windows, take a look on this:

I would recommend testing with another keyboard to start with anyway, but I guess you would have done that if you had one to borrow, righ?

No problem. Glad it is sorted :)

MH again you try to complicate matters. :(

Well this is alternate history. :)
