"Captain, have you heard the rumors of 'Cannibals in the mountains?'" The soldiers voice was shaking, he heard the rumors in a tarvern.''

Alister did heard of this, so he said "Yes, I have heard the rumors as well."

"Couldn't you send someone to check?" The soldier realized what he just said and prayed to Edona that he wouldn't be the one sent there.

"Yes, there is a group in the city. You know, I may do this. Knowing the threat could be needed for defending our western flank." Alister signaled the soldier to go and he did as order. He sat at his desk, surprising not green, like all other things in this damned swamp. He wrote a letter to Stipendiat Numandai or Nemate or what ever he was called.

Letter to Stipendiat Nemate

Recently, I have heard of rumors of some sort of being living in the ruins of Falco Manor. I would send on of my own to scout the area but increased raids in the marshes keep them busy. So I have decided to offer you or one of your members to go to this area for me. This information will be useful to defending the west.

I have you will consider my offer
Commandar Alister Carnigie of Swamp Castle

A letter arrives at Swamp Castle not long after their initial request is sent. No one saw who delivered the letter.

Commander Alister Carnigie of Swamp Catle,

The Cognition Consortium is indeed the best at discovering truths that men try to keep hidden, so it was prudent of you to ask for my organization's services. My organization is most well aquanted with Abrana and its immediate environs however, The ruins of Falco Manor are much out of the way of our expertise, and thus more dangerous for my agents. further, the recent reports of "iron giants" in the region puts my agents at even greater risk. That is not to say my organization is unable to do such an operation, merely it will cost you a greater amount of coin to secure our assistance.

For 600 abras, the Cognition Consortium will investigate the ruins of Falco Manor and discover who, or what, has taken residence in the area. However, I am aware that this price is beyond your ability to pay. If you are able to secure the funds for payment, then my organization will be quite willing to perform its required duties. If not, then I'm afraid my organization has other tasks it will seek.

"Damnit." Sergeant Wulf spat as he kicked over another rotted barrel. "Another waste of time, there are no smugglers here."

"Sergeant, should we investigate further into the swamp?" Questioned a subordinate.

"Only if you want to sink into the muck with all that armor on. Get back on the ferry men, we're headed back." Wulf walked climbed up the ladder that lead out of the Ruined Tower's cellar. Exiting he was struck by the light which shone through holes which had been made in the walls. It's a miracle this place is still standing. He walked out of the building and down to the river bank where there was a large raft. Getting on the vessel bobbed in the water, plenty of it splashing onto him. "Alright take us back." At that some of the gaurds began to use paddles to row the raft back across to a dilapidated pier, next to the Broekn Bridge Tower.

"You're all dismissed men." He waved them off to go relax after the failed search. I'm tired of this post, and I don't know who keeps telling my superiors there are smugglers there. The wooden planks creaked as Wulf walked across the bridge, then plodded up the eroding dirt covered bank. Walking into the tower he removed his helmet and sighed. I'll have to cut a few deals with more of those gangsters. "That will at least pay the bills."

He made his way back to his office, a desk pressed into a corner of the third level. Looking around he saw the latest "donation" for dealing with the Southstreet Gang, along with a series of threats for the same thing. Never thought I'd be a mercenary. The sergeant kept looking through the latest reports from his guards, a few busted up racketeers, some apprehended thugs, and a few criminals that died while "resisting" arrest. The final one was a letter from home.
Dear Joshua,

I know we've had our differences, but I would like you to come home. Please return soon, I miss you.

Longingly,
Liliy Wulf
He stared at the letter. He grabbed a piece of parchment, then some quill and ink. He went to write, then stopped, ink dripping onto the paper. Wulf put the quill back. "I'll get to it later."

Johnathon Blackcreek always knew that he would one day be leader of something. Well, he suspected at any rate. But still, he never thought it would be so much work! New problems and opportunities seemed to appear around every bend. The food crisis in the City of Abrana was a pity and a blessing. A pity because it showed just how desperate the wars surrounding Abrana had gotten, that refugees in the city were starving in the streets, but still flooding in by the hundreds. A blessing to him and his people though. A generous deal had already been struck, and it was benefiting both sides immensely. Abrana was now overflowing with potential workers, workers no longer distracted by a lack of food, and already several members of the Echelon had moved to snatch up this new resource. Jonathon could hardly blame them. He'd done the same, after all.

The profits rolling in would also help to keep the West stable. Worrying news of frightening raiders in lumbering suits of armor were coming out of Silverberg, and it appeared that the mining towns had already been attacked, and not casually either. The townsfolk were petrified that these were some sort of demonic warriors, some sort of fabled "Iron Giants" which gained strength and prowess in combat by devouring their slain opponents. Johnathon was fairly sure this was some new Bandit captain with an army of followers, but... could anybody be sure of anything in times such as these? Privately he feared that Blackborough would hardly stand up to such an assault. The township was hardly built for a siege, after all.

Johnathon knew that something had to be done. He already had several plans set in motion, and he was trying to coordinate with the D'Horti family. If he was being honest he remembered several of the families as jackasses in the past, but in their desperation they were thankful that somebody was reaching out. It might be a good idea for Blackborough and those in Silverberg to get in contact anyways, Blackcreek mused, as they were both major suppliers to the City. Still, the conflicts in their area did merit some response from him now, and a series of rapid-fire messages had already been sent back and forth after the confusion of the raids. Most of the roads still seemed safe, for now, but if these trends continued...

Silently reproaching himself for letting troubling thoughts keep him up, the Mayor blew out the candles in his room, and settled down to another sleepless night.

NEWS:
Someone pointed out an error in one of the Formulas for resource production on the stat sheet. That has been fixed, but now everyone is making a lot less resources. For those whose economy was hit significantly by this patch they have had a an increase to their deposit. Also no one lost any of the surplus resources they made this turn. I don't feel that the players should be punished for an error on my end of things. That is all and great work on those ICs people.

I also was asked to place a general list of what stats do. It'll be under a spoiler in the OP.
STATS: Abridged description

Everything does change based off orders, events, and how the players change their stats. That means this is all going off of the Placeholder stats.

Warships - these are ships meant for war, their base price is 25 abras.

Soldiers - these may not do all the fighting but they're the best for it. They cost a base of 5 abras to get through orders.

Workers - these convert other and raw materials into sellable resources. Base price of 2 abras.

Agents - these are the stealth master. Factions need these to do stealth based orders. 10 abras.

Population - all people in a faction that do not fall under the above. They each consume 2 food seasonally, to account for people who eat more than their share, and seasonal food spoilage. Also as a balance for the fact money can be made off them.

Trade Income - money made from trade

Tax Modifier - this is how much money is made off of each population count.

Tariff Modifier - sometimes people want to discourage foreign trade, so there are higher taxes placed on citizens for importing goods.

Trade Modifier - is the average income taken in through taxes off of exporting goods outside the city.

Deposit - money/debt accumulated throughout the game.

Net Resources - total resources made, which can be used to sell or even help with building things if stated in orders.

Surplus - accumulated resources

Resources Made - the resources produced that turn.

Food Produced - net food production. Underneath in stats is the food turn income.

Raw Materials - all materials made of buildings which need workers to convert into resources.

Farms - worth a base of 500 abras, resources can be used to replace abras to any degree but at twice the amount, producing 1000 units of food a turn.

Fishing ships - worth a base of 100 abras, resources can be used to replace abras to any degree but at twice the amount, produces 200 food a turn.

Hunters - worth a base of 4 abras, produces 75 food a turn.

Food Surplus - accumulated food. After every winter a percentage between 60-90% will be rolled to remove that amount from the surplus to represent food spoilage.

Mines - cost 500 abras, resources can be used to replace abras to any degree but at twice the amount, produces 1000 raw material

Lumbercamp -cost 200 abras, resources can be used to replace abras to any degree but at twice the amount, produces 400 raw material

Other Resources - any raw goods that do not fall under the domain of Minerals nor Lumber.

Balaxuhm rode in front of around 240 soldiers, mainly mounted. Those who were not mounted had used their horses to pull a carriage with either their dead or the valuables they took. Many had some kind of blood on their armour, some with parts, such as a finger, an ear or a whole head that would be shrunk, as trophies. As Balaxuhm rode into the newly renovated fortress of Falco, the sentries could see a long trail of captives, with many women amongst them. There were several resons why they liked this, one of them was that the prisons were overcrowded as there had been no proper sacrifice in a long time.
As the train of knights, silver and captives arrived into the courtyard, the newly acquired humans were "asked" to stand in lines so that they could be checked. They were then stripped of all clothing. They looked scared, unsure of what to do and what would happen. The women who weren't to old were sent the way of the hall of pleasure. Girls down to the age of around 12 were seen as viable concubines/pleasure girls. Those who were younger had to wait till they became old enough. Even though many saw it as a curse to be dolls of pleasure for these giants, it was a hunky dory world compared to prisons or the mines, where the miners almost never saw the sun. As the women and girls were led into the hall, Balaxuhm had already chosen some twins, around the age of 14, to be his personal concubines, that were to be untouched by the other knights. Those chosen to be the High Lord Paladin's personal concubines often got grand gifts and got to sit at the high table if they were seen as worthy.
The rest of the captives, mostly men were sent down to the prison cells, were they were given ragged clothes and then pushed into a cell were they awaited "justice".

---

One morning, the whole fortress was awakened to the toll of bells that echoed in the nearby foothills. A great statue was standing in the courtyard, were the high ranking paladins were standing together with Balaxuhm. From the prison cells, prisioners were forced to walk up the long staircase, naked in the mild spring morning. As they were pushed forward, they realized what was going to happen. A priest of sorts, walked forth and took the first prisoner and bound him to a slab of marble underneath the statue of Fenwurth. Under his head, was a bowl of silver and Fenwurth was holding two similar bowls, just bigger. The priest said a prayer in a language unknown to the southerners before he took a knife of what looked like transparent metal and struck it into the middle of the mans chest and he screamed due to agonizing pain as the priest ripped through his chest and took out his still beating heart, which he threw in one bowl. He then cut open the stomach and took out the guts and put them into the other bowl. He then cut of his head and lay it before the statue, before the dead man was carried away. The other prisoners looked in horror, they would be given a less painful sacrifice however, but sacrificing the first in a very painful way was an important tradition (something they sometimes did to all the prisoners if they were in good mood). This carried on till the end of the morning where the last one was sacrificed and the heads were carried in to be cleaning of flesh so they would be proper for the skull throne.

So much blood.
Here and there, the living lay alongside the dead. It was very different from the cold and serene crypts were she practiced her art.
The screams, the agony, the pain... and the smell. Such a foul smell. It was something far worse than the battlefield in so many ways.

Yet she endured.

These people, these peasants, poor and simple as they may be, welcomed her without branding her a monster for her heritage. She came here hoping for a quiet and peaceful life. Attending sick children and a few broken bones on the mines. Years of honest work to gain enough coin to bring the matter of her house to the powers in the city. But it was not meant to be, for the nightmare followed her, waiting until she was confident enough to return once more to the ancestral land. The accursed name of Falco will be heard one last time at the Talon Foothills.

Helplessness born from fear. Like tea leaves, despair was slowly laying down deep within their souls.
The merchants will return in a few days, seeking for profit over the suffering of the people, their only living god the coins on their hands. Yet, she will need her help if these people were to stand a chance of surviving the nightmare of Falco. Her nigthmare.
There was much to be done.

So much blood.

Richard paced across the soft Andalizian rugs that covered the floor of his grandfather's study, anger rippling through him as he read the letter from the Craft Guild. He had known that the people of Abrana were by and large ignorant of a great many things beyond the pursuit of making money, but this was too much. "They think to blame me because they cannot properly protect their own vaults! What need does a king have of petty theft?!"

Anne looked up from her book, a bored look on her face. "It isn't so bad Richard, simply explain to them that it wasn't you."

"I should not have to! And I certainly should have my first meeting with the echelon by being called forward as if I were some common criminal." He crumpled the letter and threw it into the roaring fireplace. "I should be invited in a way fitting my station. And what is worse, these Abranians must think I am the greatest fool in the world, not only to steal from the vault myself, but then to leave a ring linking me to the crime. This is obviously either the work of the usurper," Richard said, having refused to call his uncle by his actual name since the rebellion, "or perhaps some enterprising thief. Either way, it is city bank's problem, not mine."

"True as that may be, if you do not meet with them, things will only get worse." Anne said with a sigh as she stood up and walked over to her little brother, placing a hand on his shoulder to stop his pacing. "Go, placate them, thank them for their hospitality, show them that you want to work with them, build relationships that you can use when we are ready to return to Cynia."

Richard nodded. His grandfather was an important man, he had wealth and friends throughout Abrana, but he support alone was not enough. As much as he might despise most of these Abranians, he needed them, for now, even if he wouldn't say that aloud. "Very well, I meet with them, if I must."

His sister smiled. "Good."

Grandmaster Brass,

We wish to express our deepest sympathizes for what has happened to your guild. As such, we are honored for the chance to attend the echelon and help you to discover the true perpetrator of this crime.

Alister was happy with the progress his little faction made. They pretty much have Blackborough under his control. If they do anything that my hurt my faction, Blackborough will be black, litterally. He thought of other opportunities. He remembered that the nobility has new land and could use some guards. Yes, that will work nicely...

Letter to Arianne D´Horti-Mediza

I have heard that you have new lands south of Silverton. While I am sure it will be a profitable venture for you and your family, I have noticed a slight complication: The lands have no one the defend them. Knowing that this investment could go awry should some bandits attack your new lands, I offer you a deal: I will provide you with soldiers in exchange for some compensation. Should you accept, I shall not ask for it now as I feel I have no such need for it at the moment.

Cordially,
Commander Alister Carnigie

((I am offering 750 soldiers in exchange for a favor))

Mr Alister, We in the D´Horti-Mediza Noble compact, would find agreeable to be lend 750 man to our use, for such favor in the future.

Once more lady Arianne stood up in front of the Echeleon.

"Men and woman, whom rule the city and its lands. You all must know by now the Grimm fate the precious Silverburg have been hit with. Armored monsters, as some call it, have attacked and sacked the settlement which provide this city with the vital ore for its functions, a settlement which the city would be lost without it!. I reassure you this..."monsters" are no more than bandits clad in armor, no matter what superstition the common plebe wish to thing!. And where else would they be hiding that in the Falcon mountains!. We cannot allow for the pride of our city and people this ruffians to go around attacking every season and killing our people, indeed we cannot. Yet we cannot either fight them and destroy their poisonous fang yet either.

As such i propose the Echeleon the following:

1)The D´Horti and the echeloen at fifty-fifty will finance the hiring of special groups help to locate the bandits. One of such group have been contacted for such we require 600 Abrans as the fifty percent by the city. The group i am told will get all the information we need.

2)Showing the weakness of a key area of our nation, as well the only way to currently control the pass to the confederacy lands through the mountains, i move the motion to fortify the silverburg settlement. We will do this by the construction of a castle in the settlement, Walling the entire areas which are inhabited and the construction of fortified watchtowers in the mining camps and the roads. We ask the city to provide the funds for such en-devour, we the D´Horti will of course put our money where our mouth is by providing the troops and garrison for the new fortifications, and such the payment to keep them up on our own.

With this motions we can secure and strong and safe western settlements, and we both will be contributing to the safety and more important the pride of our nation for the future to come. To reject this is to tell everyone outside the city walls their lives are unimportant to this fine establishments, that they are worthless and on their own. Its veritable treason against them, a betrayal of the highest degree of our nation!

Captain,

I seem to have been beset by a vision of the past. I swear I saw Svartgeirr in Abrana. I was working for the dandy, keeping an eye out for that catpurse whose been lifting his baubles, when I seen him. He was fatter then I remembered, and our eyes met, he turned and went in the other direction. If I wasn't on the job, I would have went after him.

Am I seeing things? Is it possible that Svartgeirr is here in Abrana?

Lord Wallace stood up in and quickly and quietly cast aye for both propositions then quickly sat down.

He was thinking about other matters. No one minded when he pulled out a book and began writing; in fact it was quite normal for him to do so. Lord Wallace was a man of many books but not many people, and as an only child he was shy. He talked with his immediate family well and cared for his family deeply. But hardly anyone knew or cared about Lord Wallace, as he didn't mind- with obscurity came safety. House Tolly was one if not the oldest noble house still in Abrana, but moving away from the city, the House had dropped most of its pomp and glory. It was stable, self sufficient and well respected. Most people who didnt know House Tolly just saw him as the guy who sat with his books all day in the Echelon.

Firstly opened the book of the family's history and genealogy. He had been working on the recent family genealogy. He made a few corrections and, nodding, closed the book.
Tolly.png
Wallace, closing his book, sat back, closed his eyes and began to think about his life. He knew had always been shy. Even living with his gregarious cousins did not help him. Wallace would be off reading or doing work while his cousins played. At the ages of ten and five, respectfully, his Uncle Marcus, Aunt Martha and cousins Freya and Wolt all died of illness. His cousin Nelson was taken to be his brother, and soon Wallace could talk to Nelson, and he became his best friend, the only one he could talk openly to. He was easy, outgoing, still generous and kind, and a good soldier. Things looked like Nelson would take over as Lord Tolly than his cousin. Wallace's father was adamant in letting his son become the next Lord, while his grandfather wanted Nelson to be the Lord. The arguments between the two were terrible, even though Nelson bore Wallace no malice. Finally though his grandfather passed away, and his father, the Lord of Tolly, came to power. But the best memories Wallace had were of Rebbecca.

Rebbecca was the daughter of a serving girl in the Tolly Manor, a few years younger than Wallace. Wallace had known her since he was a boy, yet never had the courage to speak to her. However occasionally she would wake up and find flowers against her door; and she knew they were from Wallace. He spoke to her a couple of times as he grew older, however. Things took an adbrupt change when Wallace's father died when he was 18. Wallace took over Tolly lands. Since he was not married, he finally asked Rebbecca to be his wife, to which she said yes. As he began to think about the happy times they had spent together, and the wonderful children they had raised, someone shook Wallace's shoulder.

He turned around and saw it was another Echelon member who had tried to arouse him from what appeared to be sleep. Wallace knew that he should stop daydreaming and try and improve his people skills. He started to think about what he could do. An idea crossed his mind- perhaps he could have social events for the people on his manor to come if they wish. He could entertain his workers and family. Maybe at these social events he could work on his shyness! He quickly wrote the idea down for later.

The Guild will vote aye to both of these proposals
