The State of Francia seconds the nomination of Manuela Ramirez as High Commissioner of Ahbrazz. The time for healing for all of our polities is at hand. Peace and order must be our watchword.

The Federated States of Azeratii oppose the nomination of Manuela Ramirez. While we, unlike our Celtian Allies, support the continuance of the Mandate, the nomination of a Solesian to the position of High Commissioner without the consent of the citizens of Ahbrazz seems unwise considering the history between these peoples.

The Azeratii Tribune: UPDATE

syndie11.png

Tomorrow the latest session of the International shall begin, this year held on Artark. While denied by the organizers, many believe the fact the International is being held only a few days after the start of the Republican League Conference is not a coincidence. While Konsul Nestor Stepanov is currently attending the Republican League Conference, Premier Kristina Alexeev will speak at the International. As she is likely the next Combined Syndicalists of Azeratii (CSA) nominee for Konsul, with Stepanov expect not to stand again, many suspect this is an attempt to play to the CSA base to help secure her nomination. Regarding government policy, this is likely further example of former Commissioner of Interstellar Affairs Tzoraskian talked about when he accused successive CSA governments of attempting to "have their cake and eat it" regarding relations with Celtia and Baekdu. Regarding the issues to be discussed, the Republican League is expected to be at the top of the agenda.

((The Syndicalist International has now begun))

The Frankish Section of the Workers' International
The Frankish Section is one of the oldest and most respected parts of the International going back to Julius Octava, who along with Roisin Amagh formed the ideology and methods of Syndicalism. Following the declaration of the Republic of Francia the FSWI formed an electoral party and Octava was elected to the Chamber of Deputies. The FSWI became the third largest party in the first parliamentary elections, but after the death of President de Paulus the presidential election brought Octava into the Presidency of Francia. The Syndicalist Revolution in Francia had been achieved through democratic means, largely due to monarchist abstention from republican processes. His first act as President was to declare the confiscations of Chantry property and its redistribution to the poor. Octava's ascension was answered only weeks later by General Philipus Antonius and the army who seized control of Roma and captured Octava as he attempted to flee the capital. He was tried for treason against the Frankish people in a televised show trial before being shot by firing squad in front of the whole nation.

The FSWI was banned and most of its leaders on Francia either escaped or were imprisoned. The new leader of the party is Octava's Prime Minister Gaius Gracchus who resides in the Celtic Republic. Most of the members who are present in the International are older people who escaped in An. 30 during the fall of the Republic and the suppression of the Party. They are known for being exceptionally Orthodox and tied to the idea of liberation and revolution by a form of vanguard party.

LIVE: PRESIDENT LECIA ZEPHYR GIVES INAUGURAL ADDRESS

"... Uksugans have shown a kind and generous spirit, willing to help a fellow man or woman when the labor force has been shifting towards automation. With universal healthcare and assistance toward graduating college, the government has been proven to be effective when people need an extra hand. I will not attempt to dismantle these policies because they have proven their worth in the Federation. I will not, however, expand the expenditure of healthcare and education. My goal to not overburden the government with debts it cannot pay. Healthcare and education will have sustainable funding via the strength of the Federation's economy, unique in the galaxy with the presence of highly advanced robotics and A.I. We cannot afford to stifle the innovators in robotics with regulations or else the economy will begin to stagnate and both healthcare and education will struggle with their funding.

As a people, we have done our best to prevent hunger from being prevalent in the lives of our people. There is still one hunger I believe that we have failed to address: freedom. Specifically, some Uksugans have been clamoring for the opportunity to explore the Novus Galaxy and settle new systems. I believe now is the perfect opportunity to begin settling again, but we must temper our eagerness in this endeavor.

Daksha and Zokhed proved to be difficult to colonize because we were woefully unprepared for the challenges of these systems. On Gulkis, we failed to heed the warnings that it was a dangerous system and prepare properly for it. Uksugan colonists were woefully unprepared for pirates and our navy had to be sent in to stop them. The men and women who gave their lives to stop the pirates are not forgotten. It is time to stop rushing in and start preparing more for future colonization. We must prioritize exploration of nearby systems and gauge their risk before sending in colonists. That will be the key to success for future expansion in the Novus Galaxy.

While we expand outward, the Uksugan Federation must not forget its allies in the Republican League. This year will be the 40th Congress of the Republican League and I congratulate it for reaching this milestone. The League has been both a successful defensive alliance and a forum dealing with issues among the Republics. Uksugu will continue to support the mission of the Republican League.

For the citizens of Uksugu, I will do my best to govern on your behalf, even if you did not vote for me. The past year has opened my eyes up to the needs and concerns of all corners of the Federation. Our lives may be different, but in our hearts, we are all Uksugans, the core of the Federation. Let Uksugu prosper in the years to come!"

The Annual Conference of the Free State Congress
A grim mood hung over the conference hall, silence filling the room. The two hundred assorted men and women represented the interests of a rotting nation, they waited for the President to begin his speech, for they had been told it would be important. President of the Terran Free State and leader of the Terran Democratic Party, Aven Drose, stood in front of his peers, knowing full well that one wrong word could lose him their trust. He waited a few seconds, perhaps for effect, but mainly to review his notes. He began slowly letting the words soak into his audience, “Gentleman and ladies, I am sure you are all aware of our precarious position in the galaxy. Our economy is abysmal, second to last only to our own rebellion. The Self-Defence Force stands not only under equipped, but even undermanned, a sad remnant of the former Terran Republic. Even internally, we are divided. We are the least industrialized nation in the galaxy, and…”
He eyed the leading members of the agrarian Utopian Party. “There are some who would like to keep it that way… But no longer shall I, nor should you, stand for this. Our nation must industrialize if we wish to restore our economy to any semblance of its peak. It is my firm belief that there is only one method is capable of making this occur, we must firmly establish ourself as a xenophilic nation. I propose that we welcome not only companies and trade from our neighbors, but even immigrants from across the entire galaxy, and even the newly discovered Novus galaxy. We are in no position to discriminate, and any immigrant provides our economy with one more member of the workforce, bringing with them foreign ideas, which we desperately require. It is in this interest that I ask all present to consider my proposal, and hope that you see reason in my request.”

Drose unveiled his proposal, one surprising all present. Within seconds, members quickly began to state their opinion on the matter, some in approval, others in fervent denial. However, as the conference continued, the Terran Democratic Party gradually overpowered the voice of the Utopians, thanks to assistance from the Liberal Party. As the vote came to a close, the proposal passed with 168 in approval, 4 abstaining, and 28 rejecting. With the vote concluded, Drose ordered the proposal to be unveiled to the galaxy, and could only hope other leaders looked on it with success.

The meeting carried itself over to another subject. Drose began again, “On the matter of the rebels…” One more the discussions began anew.

A message from Clothed-in-Bronze Sandpit, prime minister/premiere/head of government of the Divine Kingdom of Light on behalf of Her Holiness the Oracle.

The Palace of Joy sends its regards and requests the initiation of a three-way dialogue between our peoples to discuss the outsiders from beyond this celestial realm and the fate of our galaxy, which the travelers call "Novus".

President Drose,

Relations between our powers has been regular and amicable. We thank you for the offer of the newly announced treaty, but there are elements which we cannot accept. However, there are great foundations in the treaty and we shall be sending a team to negotiate with your government on a revised, dual power treaty between the Terran Free State and the State of Francia alone. Good health and prayers for you and your nation.

- Maurice Jaures, Diplomat-in-Chief of the State of Francia

President Drose,

While the Albion Free State maintains its desire for cordial and conductive relations between our two fair nations we cannot in good faith agree to the proposed treaty with which we have been presented. We have neither been consulted nor pre - warned about this Treaty and as a result there are several features of the Treaty which we cannot oblige. We do reaffirm our desire for peaceful and prosperous relations and would be willing to work with the Terran Free State to explore possible ways of developing closer ties between our two nations.

The 3794 Free Territories Presidential Election

The Candidates

51xLb6b.jpg

Gaius de Pave
Previous Position: High Commissioner of the Post-Skaven Mandate
Party: Liberal-Democrats

Son of Augustus de Pave, a banker and founder of the Sons of Francia, Gaius came into the elections of 3794 with the greatest chances of winning. A devoted republican and liberal, de Pave began his career as an economic consultant in Commissioner Allen’s office, before receiving the position himself in 3786. During his time as Commissioner, he was a strong advocate for limited government and and vast social, economic, and political freedoms. In the run up to the election, he laid out his foreign policy idea for the independent territories as “Peace, trade, and honest dealings with all nations, while we pursue in good faith the paths of peace and prosperity at home”. Though the radicalism of his father might worry some abroad, his workhorse attitude garners respect, if not love, within the Territories.

YV5UkhP.jpg

Dr. Lee Tae-jung
Previous Position: Chief Scientist of the Mandate’s Terraforming Effort
Party: Conservative Party

Involved in the Mandate from the very beginning, Lee sought to be elected in order to maintain his vision of its future. He looks favorably on the agrarian way of life that has been adapted on his carefully sculpted worlds, and wishes to promote a quiet yeoman life for the people of the Territories. In the realm of foreign policy, Lee favors pragmatism, with the Territories taking part in the PGC and having a strong defensive navy to protect itself. His somewhat cold and analytical disposition has, in some ways, distanced him from the common man, but many freeholders support him despite this.

EjcSaSK.jpg

August de Bonchamps, Count of Bonchamps
Party: Royal Alliance

The Bonchamps were some of the first settlers of the Sumer system, using their wealth in order to make it into a refuge for royalists of all stripes after the fall of monarchies across the galaxy. August, the current Count of Bonchamps, naturally has sought to use this influence in his run for the presidency. While August won the right to run as the party's candidate and favors the restoration of a monarch from the House of Pepinus, the party itself is deeply divided on the particulars of the restoration and what form the monarchy should take. During the campaign August made his vision quite clear, advocating for a strong monarch, rapprochement with the Kingdom of Lamia, and a powerful and influential military. His campaign spoke little of what he would actually do as president, due to the fact that he wished to see the position removed. The Count’s support lay mainly in Sumer and was especially high among the wealthy, granting him a disproportionate amount of funds with which to conduct his campaign.

ogXXa9T.jpg

Alexandra Kamenev
Party: Meritocratic Party

A member of the banned Popular Front on Azeratii, Alexandra moved to the mandate along with a large number of similarly disillusioned meritocrats. A radical in the vein of Revicheck, Kamenev could not get along as a member of The Alliance back in her home nation. She embraces hardline Oligarchism and her severe demeanor, while it may not win friends, does keep the other members of her party in line. Most of her support is found in Agade, though even there she faces difficulties dealing with the local government.

xRYHck8.jpg

Elizabeth Hood
Previous Position: Writer/ Political Activist
Party: The Free Socialists

A true believe in Anarcho-Syndicalist thought, in the style of the Celtic Republic, Elizabeth Hood left her comfortable life as a poet and author in Albion, then under the rule of Cromwell, to spread the message in the Post-Skaven Mandate. Her efforts were fundamental to the establishment of The Free Socialists and their organization in the run up to the elections. She has given speaking tours across the territories, decrying the state of inequality, poor education, and a lack of infrastructure, while also calling for close ties with the Celtic Republic. Most of her support has come from the poor, but a number of left-leaning intellectuals have voiced their support for her as well.

4w135zJ.jpg

Ciarán Mac Piarais
Previous Position: Spacer/Colonist
Party: Sovereignty Party

Born in the Celtic Union and doing a great deal of traveling since, Ciarán has lived under kings, republicans, socialists and has found them all wanting. He settled in the Post-Skaven Mandate early in its existence with the intention of living his later years as a free man and he only joined the Sovereignty Party when it became clear that with so many competing ideologies in the territories that wasn’t likely to be the case. Ciarán argues for the radical position of self-ownership and non-aggression, often making a point of showing the flaws of governments of all types. Kind, excitable, and above all, genuine, he has garnered a surprising amount of support among young people throughout the mandate who look on the mistakes of their parents with frustration.

The Results

First Round:

Gaius de Pave - 32%
Dr. Lee Tae-jung - 27%
Elizabeth Hood - 19%
Count August de Bonchamps - 12%
Ciarán Mac Piarais - 7%
Alexandra Kamenev - 3%

Second Round:

Gaius de Pave - 56%
Dr. Lee Tae-jung - 43%

The first round of the presidential election went largely as expected with de Pave and Lee, both accomplished leaders in their own right already, achieving easy victories, though neither would manage to reach an absolute majority. Elizabeth Hood’s success was surprising to many however, and in her concession speech she focused on the path forward towards future growth and how evident it was that the people of the Free Territories wanted a president who would look out for them. Given their support on Sumer, the Royal Alliance had hoped for much more from Count August, but post election polling found that many potential voters were turned away by his emphasis on a close ties with Lamia and the general militarism of his rhetoric. Ciarán Mac Piarais quickly backed Gaius after the first round and thanked his supporters, vowing to keep fighting the good fight. Alexandra Kamenev on the other hand was livid, especially when comparing her meager three percent to the five seats that the Meritocratic party had taken in the National Assembly.

The second round was a much tighter race, with many royalists shifting their support to Lee, though de Bonchamps did not endorse him outright, and many Sovereignty supporters backing de Pave, alongside the corporations which already supported him. The greatest dividing point during the debates proved to be in the realm domestic policy, as both Lee and de Pave had non-interventionist foreign policies. Gaius supported the rise of industry, the selling off of unused land, and advocated a private system to meet the educational needs of the Free Territories. Lee on the other hand, continued to argue for agrarianism in the form of his yeoman ideal, the preservation of large parts of his carefully crafted environments, and a public school system. The race only began to widen as election day neared and de Pave’s greater spending began to prove effective. Ultimately de Pave came out ahead, and was officially inaugurated as the first president of the independent Free Territories of the Ismar Traverse.

Excerpts from Gaius de Pave’s Inaugural Address

“...Instead of binding business and commerce under piles of regulating laws, duties, and prohibitions, could it be relieved from all its shackles in all parts of the Territories, then the greatest amount possible would be produced of those things which contribute to human life and human happiness. The people of our nation would all find their condition bettered…

...Since the founding of the Mandate we have had nearly some twenty years of peace, and the prosperity so visibly flowing from it, has only strengthened our attachment to it, and the blessings it brings, and we should strive to always be a peaceable nation…

...Determined as we are to avoid, if possible, wasting the energies of our people in war and destruction, we shall avoid implicating ourselves with any of the various leagues, even in support of principles which we mean to pursue…”

Breaking News: Margaret Thorne ends Lord-Protector Run

Earlier today, Margaret Thorne - Lord-Protector candidate for the Centre Party has announced that she will no longer be running for Lord-Protector. Thorne cities several damaging leaks that have struck the Centre Party and tarnished her reputation including allegations that she rigged the nominations for the Centre Party candidacy as the main cause for her withdrawal. Thorne also spoke out against the left in a Speech, claiming the Equalist Party as a party bent on tearing open old wounds in Albish Society and the Republicans as anachronistic still believing they exist in the time of Cromwell’s Lord-Protectorship and refusing to adapt to the changing political scene. As a result Thorne has encouraged her supporters to throw their support behind the Nationalist Alliance and their candidate Prince Stephen, who has been making gains in the polls against the Equalist Party - though primarily as a result of Thorne’s leaks.

If Thornes calls are met then we could see the Prince claim the Lord-Protectorship quite comfortably, though our analytics say many will switch their support the Republican Party. This election is shaping up to be one closely drawn out affair and it will likely come down to preferences in the second or third round. If that is the case the wild card of Thomas Bywater and the Republicans could prove significant now that Thorne has bowed out. Unlikely to win whoever Bywater lists for preferences could easily sway the end result of this nail biting election.

Pan-Galactic Community Mandate for Ahbrazz

Short Form: Ahbrazz, PGCMA
Capital: Long Savannah, Yobrazz, Ahbrazz System
Government: Pan-Galactic Community Mandate (Bureaucratic Oligarchy)
Leader: High Commissioner Marti Nieminen

Politics:
  • Major “Parties”:
    • Moderate Faction (Authoritarian Democrat)
      • A loose coalition of Ahbrazzan anti-nationalists, foreign corporate interests, and human settlers, this group supports independence for Ahbrazz “at the proper time”. In practical terms, this means putting it off indefinitely and continuing to rely on the PGC. Some are in it for corporate reasons and settlement potential, but the fact that an independent Ahbrazz would be underpopulated, poor and unable to effectively defend itself is still resonant, if less and less so year after year.
    • Ahbrazzan National Congress (Social Democrat)
      • The principal Ahbrazzan nationalist organization, which seeks immediate indepndence for Ahbrazz as a democratic republic. Almost all Ahbrazzan, but has some human members also. Not opposed to human settlers, but promotes cultural assimilation and universal military service.
    • Ahbrazzan True Democratic Movement (Anarcho-Syndicalist)
      • A relatively recent rival to the ANC, this party advocates independence as a direct democratic state, as well as expulsion of human settlers. Its hardline stance against the trekkers and the PGC has drawn many younger, more radical Ahbrazzans impatient with the ANC to it.
  • Minor “Parties”:
  • Pure Savannah (Oligarchical Meritocrat)
    • A political movement advocating for independence as a meritocratic state. Not popular because of meritocracy’s ties to Solesia.
  • Anthroparty (Ultranationalist)
    • An underground, human supremacist movement that is technically banned but is very popular amongst Solesian trekkers. Mostly ethnic Solesian but increasingly attracting other human colonists. Officially advocate for annexation by Zelsar. Zelsar does not publically support them, but the truth is murkier.
History:

The Ahbrazzans are a bipedal, oxygen-breathing race that vaguely resemble elephants, with large claws on their three-fingered hands that are used for grasping. Ahbrazz has an almost preternaturally stable tropical climate and very few natural predators that could take on an Ahbrazzan, but since Ahbrazzans are mostly solitary and fertile for a relatively short time compared to their lifespans, their population even in its heyday barely reached 1.5 billion. Accordingly, they are a mostly agrarian people, industrialization being a very recent development. They had scarcely placed a primitive satellite into orbit when they were set upon by the ultranationalist government of the Solesian Democratic Republic, which targeted Yobrazz for settlement and conducted genocide against the native population. The Six-Nation Alliance eventually stopped the genocide, by which time barely 300 million Ahbrazzans remained across the entire planet. Since the pre-war proto-planetary government, the Ahbrazzan World Congress, was completely broken by the Solesian invasion, Ahbrazz eventually became the PGC’s first mandate, and one of its most important.

The Great War and Skaven Crusade saw many changes and expansions of the mandate system, but Ahbrazz’s distance and position between two stronger powers weakened the cause of the independence movement. Solesia in particular is reviled as perpetrators of a most heinous crime, and to this day the Solesian Meritocracy is mandated to pay reparations to the Ahbrazzan Council, the replacement for the AWC. Since the war, Ahbrazzan society has begun to recover, and pro-independence parties have slowly but surely gained momentum. Ironically, given its history, Ahbrazz’s critically low population has resulted in the PGCMA and ANC agreeing to let in non-Ahbrazzan settlers to boost the population and economy. Most have been Terran and Zelsari; at widespread Ahbrazzan insistence, Solesian immigrants were banned, but some snuck through and some that had come during the war doggedly remained on the planet. These colonists, referred to as "trekkers," first by the Ahbrazzans and then by themselves, are not a monolithic bunch, but their presence divides the Ahbrazzan people. The ANC believes that humans could be incorporated into a democratic, Ahbrazzan state, provided they adapt the pastoral and agrarian lifestyle of the Ahbrazzans, while the TDM believes that freedom for Ahbrazz is incompatible with the trekker presence. There is also the idea, while still some ways off, that given the slow Ahbrazzan reproductive cycle, unrestricted settlement by the trekkers could result in Ahbrazzans becoming a minority in their own homeland. While still a majority, the long-suffering alien race begins to wonder if they will one day be outnumbered by the settlers. This, too, has boosted the independence movement, as well as radical fringe human groups like the Anthroparty in reaction to the same.

--

The Three-Day Republic
The nomination of the Tasavalta to be Ahbrazz's mandatory power was part of a compromise deal hammered out by the Adrallans and Baekduans regarding the removal of elerium missiles from outer belt asteroids in the Rycuh system, and was essentially considered unimportant. As events a few months later showed, this could not have been be further from the truth. High Commissioner Marti Niemien, selected by the Tasavalta as their delegate, was quiet for a full three months after assuming office, and most on Pax Aeterna* believed that his term would be perfectly ordinary. They were wrong.

Niemien read out a proclamation from the steps of PGCMA Headquarters in Long Savannah, which had acquired the trappings of any leader's residence over the twenty-five years of the mandate's existence, proclaiming Ahbrazz's immediate independence to loudly trumpeted cheers from the native population. The lines after his first, however, caused more confusion than elation. While a plurality of Ahbrazzans supported independence, they were deeply divided between the representative republican Ahbrazzan National Congress, who favored pastoralism and a rejection of high technology, and the direct democratic True Democratic Movement, which was stridently pro-Tasavaltan, including favoring modernization, citizenships, a totally isolationist foreign policy and expelling (or even killing) the trekkers. The ANC was by far the larger of the two, and quickly began to panic as H.C. Niemien made it clear that their independence would be on Tasavaltan terms. The TDM wasted no time in proclaiming their victory, declared the Ahbrazzan Collective, and began brawling with PGC peacekeepers and ANC militias in the streets of Long Savannah.

By the time news of this filtered back to Pax Aeterna, as well as Hanseong and Wegulj, the peacekeepers had already begun fighting back against the TDM, as well as confused ANC militias that fought the peacekeepers, the Collective, and each other. The Adrallans acted decisively. The articles to end the mandate were vetoed, the Niemien Declaration declared null and void, Niemien himself was sacked, and peacekeepers were given full authorization to engage the TDM and other assorted rioters. They did so, with the help of a majority of the ANC militias, and retook Long Savannah with relatively little fuss. The Ahbrazzan Collective had lasted three days in all, and most were expecting a return to peace and quiet. This, too, was not to be.

In an emergency meeting of the Supreme Council, in a move almost certainly designed to goad the Baekduans and the nationalist parties, the Adrallan puppet state in Solesia came before the SC to nominate one of their own, distinguished international lawyer Manuela Ramirez, as the next High Commissioner. When word of this leaked, the General Assembly devolved into a frenzied shouting match, as normal, but the reaction on Ahbrazz was ferocious. The usually placid ANC condemned the nomination in the strongest possible terms, calling it "letting a wolf run a henhouse," and the TDM was even more vindictive, calling it "betrayal on a scale akin to the Insurmountable Loss**." Protests against both Oligarchies and the PGCMA flared not just in Long Savannah but in cities and communal farms planet-wide. "You Adrallans helped save us from the wolves," screamed an ANC supporter. "Why, now, do you unleash them upon us?"

As it has been made clear native citizens of Abhrazz cannot, and will not, accept the alternative nomination peacefully, the People of the Celtic Republic nominate Saiorse Brett, former Chief Administrator of the East Indus integration process, to lead the Mandate in Abhrazz. We believe her unique experience grants her the wisdom and foresight to avoid catastrophe in Abhrazz and transition Abhrazz into a stable polity.

Azeratii Nomination for Secretary-General

It is my most distinguished honor to nominate former Premier Rodion Kuznetsov for the position of General-Secretary of the Republican League. It was a great honor to serve in his government during his 14 months as Premier. He is a well respected man who has meet with leaders of many interstellar polities. I can not think of a better person to serve as the new Secretary-General. Thank you

Important Persons in Francia

Miguel+Primo+de+Rivera.jpg

Dictator-General Philipus Antonius

Philipus Antonius was born 15 years before the Interstellar Age on Francia, the son of a military man and small landowner. He joined the army like his father when he was of age and served throughout all the wars Francia undertook. He truly loved the King Carolus Magnus and transferred that loyalty to his son King Carolus II, but his mishandling of the Great War turned Antonius against him. Further, upon the abdication of Carolus II, the heir Pepinus refused to claim the crown, forever diminishing him in the eyes of Antonius. Antonius first rose to prominence as a general during the Skaven Crusade. He was known for his skill and concern for the lives of his men, as well as his immense faith. Antonius accepted the Republic, believing Francia had turned a page to order and acceptance in the intergalactic community. As general, President de Paulus gave him command of the 1st Army and all the soldiers in and around the capital. When President Octava sought to destroy the Chantry he mobilized the army to defend her. He captured and killed President Octava and suppressed the syndicalist radicals. By this time he had been completely disillusioned with democracy and ended the Republic. He does not trust in democracy or kings, but in the hierarchy of the Chantry, the Military, and economic elites. His reign over Francia has been marked by stagnation and order domestically while internationally he seeks to secure Francia as a normal member of the intergalactic community.

Diplomat-in-Chief Maurice Jaures

Maurice Jaures served in the Royal Navy seeing his first action as the captain of a cruiser in the Battle above Solaru. He rose through the ranks and achieved the position of admiral near the end of the Great War. He was a key commander in the defeat of the Skaven Crusade and helped take the fight to the Skaven homeworlds. After the wars he left the navy and served as President de Paulus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has served as the Diplomat-in-Chief for Antonius for the entire 15 years of his reign as Dictator-General and is well known among most intergalactic capitals. He recently was key to the creation of the Treaty of Friendship among Ordered Polities.

General Lavalius served under Dictator-General Antonius when Antonius was a mere Sergeant in the Royal Army. They have been close friends ever since Lavalius saved Antonius’ life during the Battle of Solaru by tackling him to the ground when an enemy grenade almost killed him. Lavalius was promoted to General after the Skaven Crusade and has become something close to the Chief of the Army under the rule of Dictator-General Antonius. Many see him as Antonius’ hand picked successor.

Grand Chanter Augustus LV

Grand Chanter Augustus LV is very old and has been Grand Chanter for 30 years. He ruled the nation following the abdication of Carolus II and led it well during the Skaven Crusade. He is not a military man at all but he served as a uniting figurehead for all of Francia. When the war was over he declared that he would be abdicating temporal power in favor of a new republic and the Chantry ran the first elections for President and Parliament. He was very happy to see President de Paulus elected as Augustus is a conservative at heart. He condemned the actions of President Octava and after the coup of Antonius blessed his rule. While he is conservative he was disappointed in the failure of democracy, but it satisfied with the rule of the Dictator-General, especially his focus on piety, order, and peace.

Albertus Lebel

Albertus Lebel’s family owned the great Lebel Company, the foremost arms manufacturer on Francia. He has expanded that business, but also is looking into several different investment opportunities on Francia. He has visions of transforming society into an industrialized or even service economy. He sits on the Council and is Dictator-General Antonius’ premier economic adviser.

Carolus Baures

Carolus Baures trained as a student of philosophy and journalism. When he was young he joined the Sons of Francia, the underground republican movement founded by Augustus de Pave. There he became an agnostic and social liberal. He contributed articles for their newspaper the Friend of the People. However, during the Great War he became disillusioned with the republican movement due to their admiration for Baekdu which he saw as traitorous during a time of war. He slowly grew more and more right wing, advocating for Chantry power and a return to the absolutism of Carolus Magnus. He advocates for a social hierarchy based on the old feudalism and an absolute monarch who can unite the nation into a single endeavour to increase the economic prosperity of Francia and reclaim their lost land and prestige. He has become the leader of the Monarchist Movement and the editor of their newspaper the Counter-Revolutionary.

Benatus Primos

Benatus Primos is a young and charismatic man. He served in the army but never saw battle as an officer. He has taken elements of the philosophy of Charles Baures and synthesized them with syndicalism and anti-monarchism. He is the leader of the National Syndicalist and Traditionalist Phalanx. He advocates for the union of workers, owners, and farmers into corporations led in spirit by the nation and the Chantry.

Captain Iosephus Foclius

Captain Foclius served in the paramilitaries of the Volunteer Army during the Skaven Crusade and the Republic when street fighting against liberals and syndicalists were very common. He has risen through the ranks of the organization and is now its leader. He is a zealous Salvatoran who sees the regime of Dictator-General Antonius as too liberal and accommodating to the enemies of Francia and the Chantry, which he sees as one in the same.

Albertus de Scipiere

Albertus de Scipiere is a banker and industrialist who has financed multiple liberal newspapers and advocacy groups for the republican cause. He has been elected leader of the Republican Movement for the sixth time this year and he seems to remain extremely popular among the movement’s faithful. He is well spoken but is certainly no rabble rouser. He represents the liberal and bourgeois core of the Republican Movement on Francia.

Dante Fabius

Dante Fabius grew up as a peasant, working the farm of a large landlord in the countryside. Due to the Skaven Crusade however, he was drafted into the Navy where he quickly learned technical skills. He used the pensions granted by the Republic to study law in Constans, a more liberal city. He learned of syndicalism, but rejected the radical transformation of politics, looking instead for inspiration to Uksugu and the system of social democracy. He has developed a moderate form of Frankish socialism that involves the welfare state and universal suffrage. He is a noted speaker and academic.

Maria de Paulus

Maria de Paulus is the granddaughter of the former President and General de Paulus. She grew up in luxury and notoriety, but excelled in academics beyond anyone expectations. Upon finding out that her father had bribed the her school to give her better grades she refused to go to school until he paid the fine for bribery. When she left home she refused money from her family and built a successful law career from scratch. She studied abroad in Adralla and fell in love with the system of Oligarchical Meritocracy. She has founded the small Meritocratic Movement on Francia which mostly produces countless videos and propaganda pictures in favor of Meritocracy or films stunts to highlight the repression and distortion of natural ability in Francia.

Gaius Gracchus

Gaius Gracchus grew up in a wealthy family, but after going to school and falling into the student syndicalist movement he renounced his old family and changed his last name to Gracchus. He was a high ranking official in Julius Octava’s Syndicalist Party and was Prime Minister of Francia for almost five months. He was able to escape the planet when Antonius overthrew the Syndicalist government and has lived in Celtia since then. He organizes the Frankish Section of the Workers’ International from Celtia and refuses to recognize Antonius as the legitimate ruler of Francia.

An End to Isolationism

The fabled polity of Velia, located in the northeastern quadrant of the Novus Galaxy, was famous for its isolationist, exclusionary policies. Most Harthan polities remained largely unaware of its existence, much less its development and size. Of the Harthan polities, only the Republic of Baekdu and Adrallan Oligarchy were permitted to retain envoys and trade factors aboard the orbital fortress Luxos above the colony-planet of Elia, and of the two, only the Adrallans had any serious contact with the Velian government. Not even the other Novan powers could claim a close relationship with the fanatically secretive Velians, a state of affairs enforced by the surprisingly powerful and concentrated Exarchate Navy.

However, not even the strictest quarantine could prevent the flow of ideas into or out of Velia, and the Adrallans' relatively warm relations with the like-minded Velians resulted in a growing awareness of the outside galaxy and its various concepts. Conflict began to brew within the Supreme Military Council, which had until recently enjoyed substantial autonomy from a string of indolent Exarchs, between those who wished to embrace the outside world and those who wished to reject it.

Unfortunately for the Supreme Councilors and their fiefdoms, the new Exarch, Desirus Phrygius, would prove a substantial obstacle. Chosen for his relative youth (the Liantar Exarch was barely in his 60s at the time) and presumed flexibility on receiving "advice," the Supreme Council failed to recognize that the Exarch had spent substantial time as an Adrallan liaison during his days as a junior officer and had developed some very strong opinions on foreign influence. Phrygius is credited with coining the saying "learn, but never forget," a cornerstone of the later Traditionalist movement.

What galactic scholars would later call a bloodless coup was actually a reassertion of the Exarch's traditional powers, which had been established at the dawn of the Age of Union to ensure executive latitude in a new era of inter-species symbiosis. Phrygius drew much of his support from the Hyvelen officer corps, who wanted to use foreign ideas to jump-start their own programs rather than outsource the effort entirely. Those Hyvelen also saw the moderate-progressive Exarch as a necessary bulwark against the increasingly encroachment of the Liantar-dominated Supreme Council, which had a regrettable tendency to favor the promotion of Liantar officers.

Therefore, when Phrygius began to exercise his traditional powers, he faced a near-mutiny from the Supreme Council. Unfortunately for the Councilors, they found much of their support receding -- the tradition-minded Liantar backed the executive, while the Hyvelen had already been swayed. Their own internecine conflicts prevented them from creating a unified front, and into the gap stepped the Exarch, who purged the Supreme Council and reorganized it as the Office of the Supreme Commander, a purely advisory body.

Assuming the symbolic surname "Velius" to represent his sole loyalty to the Exarchate, Phrygius presided over another decade of careful internal reorganization and reform. He synchronized the state-run economic engine powering the Velian military machine with outside standards, put the treasury on the Galactic Credit, and increased the size of the Interstellar Diplomatic Service twentyfold. By the end of the decade, the Exarchate was prepared to meet the galaxy on its own terms.

In the preceding year, Exarch Velius issued Executive Command Order #129475, establishing a formal Outsiders' Quarter on Luxos and permitting the establishment of foreign embassies and trade legations within that Quarter, subject to all intergalactic laws and norms. Construction on purpose-built orbital facilities for foreign trade over each of the worlds of the Exarchate has begun, and there are even rumors that the Exarch is considering applying for entry into the Pan-Galactic Community...

The Azeratii Tribune: UPDATE

syndie11.png

Members from Tasavalta have arrived, surprising many within the International due to Tasavalta's lack of a formal section. Two separate ideological blocs, uniquely Tasavaltan, have been introduced into Anarcho-Syndicalist section. The first is the arrival of the Susiayksinäisiä whom represent a peaceful but cooperative section of the Tasavaltan Anarcho-Syndicalist movement. The second were the Kekiäsjunha, who seem to be a radical domestic offshoot of vanguard Communism, or rather unorthodox Syndicalism. Although Tasavaltan individuals have often come to International Meetings, this arrival of a pair of ideologically patent sections, for a lack of a better word, shows that some segments of Tasavalta might seek to end their long time isolationism.

The Syndicalist Party of Lamia
Although no where near as powerful as the Monarchist and Republican sections of the Kingdom, the Syndicalists maintain a noticeable presence in the realm. Adhering to the orthodox school of this particular political thought, they, unlike their Communist cousins, wish to begin phasing out capitalism by forming up co-operatives and not only disbanding the Nationalist Party but also stripping all individuals of any titles and assets of nobility, while also reducing the Corporations to limited, small scale private commerce and nothing more. The central government will only oversee the co-ops. The current parliament would be replaced by a Labor Union Congress with the polity adopting limited isolationism going so far as to align itself with other Syndicalist dominated governments and movements. As far as the PGC is concerned, it would be taken up for a vote and ultimately decided upon.

Forced underground by the ever vigilant eye of both the police and Lamian Intelligence Service, the party's top brass clandestinely moved to attend the Internationale at Artark totaling 8 members, Communists included. The leader of this troupe was Augustine Lamont whom came upon the position after the former leader and Party Secretary were killed in a raid 8 years prior. While less extremist than his predecessors he brings in new blood and ideas. The primary one being to move their operations away from the core planets and into the colonies to secure worker sympathy. The reason being that due to King Victor's allowance of unions (albeit State-run, sanctioned and regulated) the Syndicalists strength has been sapped with potential members instead going to the Republican groups.

However, in the colonies in exchange for semi-autonomy the companies involved are the lead administrators with significant leeway to the point that unions can be and are outright banned in some sectors. While the government indeed strengthened itself exponentially in the core, the outlying areas are ripe for an organic movement of Syndicalism to be nurtured and eventually, expanded. It is in this view that Augustine hopes to reinvigorate and save the Syndicalist movement in the Kingdom of Lamia.
