Steps to reproduce​

- Launch the game

Description​

I just tried to start the game, first from the launcher, then from its .exe file directly. The game launches for a second then crashes. If started from the launcher it shows an error message with the exit code 3221225477.
I play on Steam.

I tried so far:
- Restarting Steam
- Verifying game files
- Restarting Steam again
- Updating GPU drivers
- Restarting the PC
- installing newest VC++ and .NET manually
- Restarting PC again
- Opting into the Hotfix-Branch via Steam Betas

I apparently spoke too soon. After a GOG update on AgeOfWonders4 this morning, I now can no longer play the game whether the item on-CPU GPU is disabled or not. Not a good look. I'll give it a few days before I request a refund. QA guys, no pizza party for you.

Hi Scriptorium, that is very interesting. I'm not aware of any updates that were supposed to go out on GoG today but I'll look into it.

Were there any patches on Epic today in the night or yesterday late evening?
I have similar problem I could play but since like 10-12h ago it crashes on launch,
Even tho before it was working fine.
When starting the game through the folder directly i get Authenthication message that crashes it too.
"Login Failed. Invalid Credentails"
"EOS_InvalidAuth"
This is not through Steam, so I cannot try the Hotfix Branch :/.

Hope you guys can find a way out of it!

Even more entertaining, I noticed that the installer had made an `"Age of Wonders 4" folder inside my age of wonders folder, so I figured I'd uninstall and put it in the root of my GOG games. That way I'd only have one level of Ao4 inception going. Apparently a big mistake. On my third attempt to reinstall, with GOG Galaxy getting to 92% and then saying the install is corrupted and offering retry or uninstall. Either someone at GOG is punking Paradox, or someone at Paradox/Triumph borked the package they handed out last night/early this morning. Again, QA guys, no pizza party for you.

Postscript:
Apparently third time is a charm? Closed GOG, reopend GOG, reattempted the install and it went in? Makes NO sense.

GOG has been updated from the original version (77973) to a new version (77988). I can confirm that on my admittedly unsupported Linux setup this did not fix things. I am still getting the same series of assertions:

Assertion failed at C:\.workspace\src\Creator\RE\Source\REv5\Implementation\DX12\VERFImplDX12.cpp (2275): SUCCEEDED(Result) ((SUCCEEDED(Result) @ VERFImplDX12.cpp:2275)DX12 function failed with error 0x80070057)

followed by a crash, and then crash reporter crashes so I don't have a minidump for anyone to look at. Maybe next patch?

Hi PlutonArioch, if you're on the Hotfix branch and still have this error after updating the I'd like you to do the following. Can you try launching the game directly from the .exe in the install directory and let me know which error message appears then?

None whatsoever. The message comes from the launcher. It just crashes and then the Crashreporter opens. It acts the same way as with the launcher. Here is my latest crash dump, started without launcher: AOW4_Crash_2023-05-04-12-40-40_CAA5B471.tcd

So, just after I posted, there was apparently another update. So I tried it again, and it is still the same.

Hi Mavcik, this seems to indicate that you did not Authorize the game when you first launched it.

Can you check in your account if AoW4 shows up? You can try Revoking access and relaunching to see if that fixes the Authentication issue

I've tried revoking it and re-authorising again through Epic Game store Launcher with game launch. It allow connection.

Oh god... seriously?
I forgot about that POS. It had caused some problems years ago, but not recently, so I forgot it was a thing. Unfortunately it is being automatically installed for my on board realtek sound chip (which I don't even use most of the time).
I will see if I can do something about it (again), and update here when I know more.

Good news! Simply disabling the Nahimic service worked!
At least I can finally start the game on my main PC.

Sorry, I should have remembered to check this. I need to make a note, whenever a game acts weird check if Nahimic is back...

Patch was officially put out, but I still can't play the game via crash on startup. Now exit code 74565, still with the no supported GPU error.

No idea what to do, installed visual c again, didnt install net framework since it said its already installed. revoked acess. restarted, reinstaled, verified files, run as administrator, run as compatibility mode...

This is very messed up guys, I bough many games across the years, besides having server issues with online services, i dont recall not being able to play the game at all like this.
