I also have this issue. I bought Holy Fury this morning, and after it downloaded I attempted to start the game, to no avail.
I have, in order:
- Restarted Steam
- Verified the integrity of the game cache (100% fine, no problem)
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Crusader Kings II.
- Attempted to launch the game directly from the /program files (x86)/Steam Library/Crusader Kings II .exe "CK2game".
None of these attempted solutions actually fixed the problem that I'm facing. I'll press launch on the Steam page, my "game state" will go into CK2 for a few seconds (it will appear to my friends as if I'm running CK2) and then the game state will end. No launcher, no game, no nothing. In all attempts to launch the game, the application appears in the task manager as a background process that occupies limited CPU, gradually falling over many seconds to 0% CPU usage before self-terminating.
As I'm an avid fan of the game and someone who has been quite excited for this DLC's release for quite some time, please let me know if there's any solutions at all.
Edit: After poking around this sub-forum a bit, I've noticed that there was an attempted solution suggested here: (
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/game-not-starting.1128003/). I attempted to implement this fix by reverting to the old version available as a beta in the Steam properties tab of the game's options. This did not work for me.
Frankly, this does not seem like an isolated issue, nor a minor one. I understand that integrating a game's expansion content into a platform like Steam may be complicated, but this game-breaking issue is something that probably should have been caught and fixed before release. I have never experienced an issue like this from any Paradox game/DLC release nor any other game on Steam.
Please, anyone, keep me updated if any other solutions are found/proposed.
