off the top of my head i'd say the main things that would kill the mood would be bad AI (and in a game of this scope that is a real possibility even for PDS) and... well... some major unrealistic things happening.

starfighters flying around space like it's in an atmosphere- acceptable (even though its really like as seen in KSP and star citizen)

a fleet speeding across the surface of a sun like it's surfing in hawaii- not acceptable... by which i mean #lolrealism

Realism? We're talking about intergalactic mollusc empires and we're wondering about realism?

I would like to see them throw realism completely out the window, and focus completely on what is internally consistent to the universe they are hoping to portray. Space Empires are already a work of complete fantasy as far as realism goes, so I think they should do whatever they want so long as they can make it consistent with other things in the game.

It would be enough to scale pop growth accordingly. In DW and especially in Gal Civ II you have trillions of people after a few decades, starting with a population of only a few billions.

Clone creches, rapid maturation therapy and direct neural interface downloads!

Who wants to take care of a child for 18 friggin years when you can just plug them into a creche and have an adult you can drink and be friends with in a couple of months!

No, just no. That should be a way to "create" new armies in a short time but not the mere basis of pop growth.

If I'm forced to deal with population problems in politically correct ways. Like "yeah, we have Death Star on orbit but it only gives "-5% to unrest", so we can only decrease taxes/increase autonomy to calm things down."

So you don't have problems with intergalactic human empires? That racist!

Realism ? No. It's about consistency and likelihood. Just like in sci fi movies and books.

Any realism is a space opera is destined to be obsolete very quickly anyway.
It means that the devs are free to put a lot of things in their game, but the explanation "it's just a game, bruh" is never a good explanation. Everything has to be justified in game. The limit is imagination.

Soft SF is just fine with me, as long as there's consistency.

They really... reference to that slag? Why? Don't they have any decency?

I used to love Stardock. Now i'm starting to think that much of what I love about their company was largely accidental on their part.

But yeah, not much immersion in GalCivIII and I think it is by design.

GalCiv seems to be the Phatom Menace of 4X games. Mr. Plinkett rants incoming...
