When I said no one should give memory advice I meant no one will give memory advice.

Best buy should be fine they have a good return and exchange policy.

Thanks for all the advice, ill check out best buy. Even if i never get around playing hoi on grand campaign, paradox did a fine job with the battle scenarios. It was well worth paying 30 bucks just to play the awesome battle scenarios. They even run smoothly on my crappy 56k.

If you still have trouble after the upgrade come back and see me.

Well that is always a good policy. :)

I have a 2.6 Pentium 4 and a GIG of ram, but the grand campaign goes A LOT slower on "super fast" than it did in HOI1... :(

Probably because of all the new calculations to make in combat. But even 1936 goes significantly slower.

The battlescenarios ABSOLUTELY FLY, though, so I'm happy with those ;)

There are a lot of factors that can influence speed.

I admit, my knowledge of compters is quite limited. I bought HOI2 on the weekend and the campaigns run slow as hell!! max speed goes only by hours of the day. I tried everything suggested, renamed avi, defragged, lowered setting, but it still runs aweful. Here's what I got:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ECS
System Model: K7SOM+
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: AMD Duron(tm) Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.3GHz
Memory: 224MB RAM
Card name: RADEON 9200 SERIES

As you can see, my system is relatively new. I have read many simlar complaints from other players. Is there any way to edit the files to increase the game speed?? Unfortunately, if I don't see a resolution to this problem, I'm going to return this game. Which is a shame because i looks very cool. But I don't want to spend and 2 hours to get through 1936!!

I would say memory is your big problem.
I would say 512 is minimum for running XP.

I'm a litte confused because a link you provided regarding slowness in Victoria bears similarity in slowness to HOI2 (written by Jan Peters). Yet when I play Vicky, it goes blazingly fast, while HOI2 goes at a snails' pace!! With this in mind, are you sure it regards a lack of memory? (I know you refrain from giving memory advice)

I don't tell people what specific type of memory to buy or the setting for that memory, Memory is very sensitive and you have a better time with sales people to sort the problem out if it is thier advice you are following.

That has no bearing here, I simply say that more memory would be a big help to you. 256 meg is the absolute minimum that I would run with XP. Really the minimum now a day is 512meg. You do not even have the bare minimum. Believe me this may not be the full cause of your HOI2 slow down, nothing in life is certain but you will notice a difference in all your apps if you go to 512 meg. It is prob. the cheapest way to keep your system viable for longer.

Its been about 2 weeks since i spent 120 bucks on 512mb or sdram dimm. My birthday came up and now i have a 2.8 ghz cpu with 512 ddr ram. I can't throw that 512mb sdram with the ddr..... Basically im pissed off cuz i spent 120 bucks to play hoi2 for 2 weeks =(. Any one know how i can get my 120 bucks back? I have already considered repackaging the ram and just returning it. I bought the ram from best buy. Any one have a legal way of getting my 120 bucks back?

Did you get a whole new system or just a new MB with ram?

I have a pretty high end modern system (1 Gig RAM, 3 GHz processor, Radeon X800 video card) and HOI2 runs like a dog on it. The specs I see as "should be good enough" are way lower than what I have, so I'm a bit puzzled. Literally looking at a paused screen of Germany in the '36 scenario, I get maybe 7 fps, slow enough you can really see the cursor move in big jumps across the screen.

Any suggestions? This machine runs games like Half Life 2, DOOM 3, and all other Paradox games at blazing speeds. It's just HOI2 that dies miserably.
