For the next edition of VIP:R the developers have decided to replace certain of the resources and factories in the game with new resources and factories. For this, we need new graphics to replace the old graphics.

These are the graphics we will need

Resources (for the resource map and factory output depiction)

sugar
non-ferrous metal (like copper)
hulls (the big ship bottoms for large steam-based capital ships)
chemicals

Factories :

Chemical Factory
Hull Shipyard
Synthetic Nitrate Factory

We are therefore opening the floor to those of you with graphic talents to design new resource and factory graphics which we will include in the next version of VIP:R.

Please post submissions in this thread.

also needed will be new graphics to represent the merged new products

Livestock (coming from the merger of Cattle and Wool)
Luxury Goods (coming from the merger of Luxury Furniture and Luxury Clothes)

For all the new graphics, we would like to preserve the relative style of goods and factories as used in Victoria so that the new goods and factories blend nicely with those goods and factories from the original game we are keeping.

If no one want help with it I could make that files. I don't know for sure which files have to be remade and how should look some of that new resources or factories (like Synthetic Nitrate Factory  ).
Some resources like copper (non-ferrous metal) and sugar could be taken from EU2 to keep Victoria style. And I think to make graphics we should first have full list of resources and factories to make it in correct order - all resorces graphics are placed in one file.
I've never edited that files so I can't guarantee that all will be made perfect but I could try. If it is planned to add that files in next VIP it is worth to spend few hours in Photoshop.

well the plan is to have the new resources and factories be part of VIP:R 0.2.

Basically, the thing we need now is just some artistic ideas for the new goods and factories. We'll simply be replacing the image currently used for, ammunition, as a good with the one for say copper.

Same with the factories. the file will still be called ammunition_factory but the image will be, say, a sugar plantation.

I think some resources could have new look like this:

Livestock

Luxury Goods

Chemicals

Non-ferrous metal

Or I'll be looking for something in more Victoria style, that's only first propositions.

In the gfx folder there are two files (big_resources and small_resources) and under eyr there is another one. All three should be changed to include the new resources. I've done some experiments with modifying those files, and it's definitely possible to include EU2 icons. The only thing you've to worry about is to not accidently paste over another resource.

Those are good, though def would like a bit more in Victoria style.

A couple suggestions

1) add a pig to the livestock, since Pork is a major livestock resource in many parts of the world.

2) Perhaps reduce the chemical icon to just one flask

3) Perhaps add jewelry to the luxury goods (as Precious Metal will be an input)

Still you get the general idea.

Still don't know how look hulls ...

those look good

Hulls are the thick metal U-shape outer covering of a big ship. Usually they are built with a lot of scaffolding around at the edge of the water. I'll see if I can find a picture to help.

Personally, I believe the crane in the 2nd pic is way too modern.

Seems to me the 1st and last pictures are the best for what you have in mind. The equipment's technology looks more "Victorian" to me.

Just my opinion, boss. You do what you think is best.

I like the 2nd and the 4th, probably lean towards the fourth more than the second.

As for the factory picture itself, something based on #2 with an unfinished hull would be best I think. The crane might be a bit too modern, but as the game goes until 1935 I think we can still use it (or just have the image w/o a crane.)

We are going to need two other graphics, as we are replacing fertilizer as a resource and factory.

in place of fertilizer we will have

Ivory as a resource
Sugar Beet Refinery as a factory

so we will need graphics for those as well.

Hmm the sugar one looks more like cinammon sticks. Perhaps something like the sulfur icon, but in white ???

The Ivory is good but perhaps should be a bit more bunched up together - like maybe two tusks crossed???

I like the sugar cubes.

And we can hold off on the ivory and the non-ferrous metals. Discovered that we likely won't be able to include them due to the hardcoded nature of factories and RGOs in the game. :(

If only this game was a moddable as EU3, where we could just plug in resources as wanted. Sigh.
