Li Jishen sat in his tent and waved his sweating face with a fold-out fan as he listened to the British representative, some minor major-general, make his case. The British were, as usually seemed to be the case with China, overreacting to events. Li Jishen frowned—that was not to say that the Germans didn’t, of course; the Germans overreacted very much, but didn’t the British see that China had nothing to fear? Apparently not, as the British representative had seen Li Jishen’s frown and was beginning to do little more than babble on hopes and promises and the dangers of fascism.

Li Jishen waved him silent. “I am, of course, aware of your war with Germany. I, too, am aware that it is not going so very well—the Germans hold the majority of the continent, though you are fighting the Italians well in Africa. These conflicts do not interest me, they do not interest China. We declared war on Vichy France for our own reasons.”

The declaration of war against Vichy France.

The major-general sputtered angrily. “Your own selfish reasons!”

Li Jishen smiled wanly at him for a moment before adopting a serious expression once more. “Annam was once imperial Chinese territory. China cannot survive on its own without its great wealth of resources, especially rare materials.”

“Perhaps so, but then the Germans declared war on China! A state of war exists between the Axis powers and China now!”

The Axis declared war on China after the Chinese declaration of war on Vichy France.

Li Jishen nodded. “So they did, you are truly perceptive.”

The major-general gestured angrily. “And the British Empire, Commonwealth and Allied nations pronounced solidarity with China and declared war on Vichy France to aid you in your struggle. Why do you not wish to formally join the Allied powers?”

“There is no reason to. Millions of Chinese served in Europe during the Great War, as low-paid ‘coolies,’ as you call them. We have no interest to repeat the experience. Germany cannot reach us, we cannot reach Germany. With fronts closer, Germany does not want to reach us, we do not want to reach Germany. We are busy securing Annam, from the north and the south.”

The British officer sighed forcefully. “But what if war does come to China?”

Li Jishen smiled. “It won’t. I have faith in your Royal Navy to prevent major convoys from slipping through the blockade of Germany, even if you do not. China has nothing to gain from becoming little more than other satellite state to the imperialism of Britain.”

The major-general snarled. “Britain is not interested in Asian and Pacific imperialism any longer!”

Li Jishen smirked at him. “Of course not. Now leave, we will not join your ‘Allies’ bloc, that is final. We may be in a state of war with Germany and the Axis but there is no war between us, unless you force it. You are the warmongers.”

As the officer stormed out of the tent, a messenger ran in, panting hard and offering up a missive. “Sir! A message from Chen Gongbo!”

Li Jishen unrolled the parchment and nodded. Production planning had been completed and the Chinese Development Corporation was continuing their good work.

China’s industry was beginning to modernize quite rapidly.

I rather am expecting an eventual interest in European imperialism from the Clique though.

Will you puppet Indochina so you get more material?

But if he takes Vladivostok and Siberia, release Siberia as a puppet and wait for the BP event to fire for Germany then he'll be safe :p

EDIT: And please call me the Carb... ;)

Myth said:
“... Germany cannot reach us, we cannot reach Germany...”

well, you cannot reach them, but don't be surpriced to see Germans landing in China, AI has unlimited ship range and when I saw German-AI taking Vladivostok on N/N, I started to be really afraid of being in war with them, even sitting on Far East, with undefended coasts ;)

anyway, lotta luck in Indochina!

Hehe... so now the British are begging China to come to their aid, eh?

When will Li Jishen proclaim himself president or emperor of China? It would only be fitting - after all, he is the true overlord of East Asia, not just a minor warlord in southern China, right? The next time the British come, they would have to bow and prostrate themselves before his throne, if they wish to get any answer at all from the mighty Li Jishen. :D

Other than Mongolia, are there any other territories to which China has claim?

Li Jishen looked through his binoculars at the city in the distance, he could barely see it over the awful jungle even though he was on the highest point in the area. He shook his head, the mountainous jungle regions were inflicting more casualties through attrition and slowing the Chinese forces down more than actual enemy action was. Li Jishen, however, did not think that such an easy advance would continue for much longer.

Vichy was getting desperate, with no troops in Annam, and merely wanted to end the war against China. Their peace effort was enticing, Wang JingWei refused it as it wasn’t enough. Though they offered up the great majority of the region, they weren’y offering all of it—there was no reason for China to accept such a worthless treaty.

Vichy offered a worthless and unwanted peace.

With most of the towns on the Annamese-Siamese border occupied by the Chinese, Li Jishen implemented the second part of the operation, the advance into Siam. The cavalry corps in Zhang Xueliang’s army would rush into Khon Kaen and secure the strategically valuable city for China even though the rest of Zhang Xueliang’s forces were still mopping up in Annam. Further south, Li Jishen, Bai Chongxi and one of Li Zongren’s corps were attacking Bangkok. Initial resistance was a mere garrison division, which was shattered easily, and later on two infantry divisions appeared, but were driven back.

The theater of war widened to include Siam.

Li Jishen was also happy with the technological progress of the month. That old adage was true after all—war increases the pace at which new technologies are discovered. Li Zongren’s Military Academy perfected their doctrine of elastic defense and continued on by beginning to work out a deep logistic organization—China will surely need such an institute in the future. Consolidated Chinese Aviation completed their prototype of an early fighter and began designing an early interceptor. Finally, Academia Sinica completed their basic decryption device and began improving their encryption devices.

China was rapidly modernizing.

Iced coffee and beef noodle soup for the troops!

Speaking of beef, I love how you beefed up your tech teams. Time to get cutting edge...

Keep up the masterful work.
