I see too many awesome mods that are going to be abandoned because HOI3 is out soon and it's way too early to do that. We're soon to have the definitive HOI2 version with most bugs gone and good intelligence system and why should that be given up for an unproven product? :(

I'm staying on Hoi2.

Most likely the modders will finish up their mods or finish at least the next patch of it before they move to HOI3. Most I bet will wait for a patch or two to HOI3 and wait for some people to figure out how to mess with it before there is a move. Also we don't even know what will need to be modded or not.

If it's supposed to be really easy to convert HOI2 mods to HOI3...
It won't be easy for a number of reasons
1) Events don't work the same way (triggers, commands, etc.), so they would all need to be reworked.
2) Events aren't numbered/categorized the same way, so all of that would need to be redone.
3) Provinces are all changed, so all of that would need to be reworked
4) Graphics...see where this is going.
Would it be that hard to do both at once? :D
About the only thing that would carry over from a HOI2 mod would be the ideas, everything else would have to be redone from scratch. Even then you would have to determine WHAT needed to be done, because a lot of mods were created because of apparent deficiencies in Vanilla HOI2 (not enough events, details, etc.) especially outside of Western Europe.

Though I do plan to buy it next week, I will still likely play some of the HOI2 mods.

And don't forget :
- gameplay changes
- tech-tree
- tech-teams which are by now obsolete in HOI3.

The only thing that looks pretty sure we can keep are leaders and ministers and their pictures, tough I doubt the files have the same structure that would be too good.

The point of #4 above was to illustrate that I didn't want to list all of the changes between Hoi2 and Hoi3 (although I didn't think about the Tech Teams thing).

Model imagery seems salvable though in HoI3 - that's a lot of work if it needs redoing. A lot of the other graphics seems salvagable some form or the other as well. But with the amount of work tasks already listed most of the major mods are seriously considering HoI3 as an option I reckon, if only for not losing the momentum. I know we are, and have yet to see a single argument for sticking with CORE for HoI2 for the short term. Heck, we're actively recruiting just because we're seriously considering a move towards HoI3...

I am still playing old DOS games like Steel Panthers 1 and 2 and their spin offs as well as Age of Rifles. I am not planning on giving up on this game at all.

HOI3 euforia is now stronger then ever, but soon people will realize that they have to wait version 1.2 for smooth gameplay. After mid of august lot of players will return back to HOI2, I believe.
At the end why to buy new computer just to play 3D game that is ugliest on market.... PI really need to increase level of visual aspect of HOI3.
HOI2 is eye candy comparing to new one, so I will stay for some time with "old lady".

With Paradox games the ETA of patch #2 is always most important. :D But I presume the bigger mods have little choice to migrate or run the risk to find themselves behind the curve...
