Johan, am I looking in the right direction when I say "Quad Tree"?
could say that yes.

Colychin_Chukchi.gif

This showes the eastern tip of Siberia facing Alaska with the Bering strait.
trans_baykalien.gif

This one showes the province north of Buriat on the northwest banks of lake Bajkal...
Mr Anderson THIS is what I want to make of the wholes in the EU2 (and 1) map... :)
I am not able to crack down the wholes myself not becourse I am a dummy but the technical knoledge is something I don't have...I have now more than 1 jear of Comp expiriance behind me.
Wel I think the coice is simple...what does one like better....a fiiled map without ugly white places with new provinces like this ....or the map as it now is..
Sorry If I sound somewat blunt its not personal...just me.. :D

Hymalaya Gap

pluging_hymalaya.gif

This is a piece of bridging the Hymalaya "gap"..
This is made withe a simple Paint prog...the text is not what I wanted but for the drawing itself it mattered not...
Sevrel techniques are visable here ....
On the whole I wasn't that dissatifactiuerd with the result....mind pleace that this is a worksheet ...thus...not finnished.

For those of us interested in making entirely new maps... how do we go about it?

I don't think we can yet...

Unless I'm sorely mistaken, andrashi is just doing "mockups" of what he'd like to do to the map.

Actually making or editing map files is still out of reach.

No it's not :p I'm aware of the mockups, what I'm talking about is what a map needs to be processed by the map processing algorythm. Say I was to create a new map in Illustrator (which I gather is used to make the EU2 map) is each province an illustrator shape?

I suppose it's not possible for someone to post the illustrator file so we can see...

Forgive me if I am wrong but every province is a little map on his on ...al of them are gathered in the "Boundbox.TBL"
What I have made is indeed the way I should make the new provinces in those places that are stile gaps right now....
They are "what is going to be where it up to me..and a study in making EU2 maps (the Hymalaya map is...)
Chukci_und_Koriak_Siberien_smal.gif

A some what larger Siberian part surved as basic for the above map...already have the "Cultures I want to create and the states..next to it I'll "terratoria's "wich are uninhabitet but rich of economically intresting supplies.
And ,as a good saying sayes...when we are at it wy not have an other peak in our kitchen ..
Russia_smal_0.gif

Thus showing siberia as we want to make it....this one is the buildup from EU2 siberia as basis ...
This maps are ALL USER made so there will be now problem with people claiming copyrights or so...
Comes of course the big WHY?...well I like to make maps...or the remake them...
I like to make illu's like the eskimo gues on map 1 above...
I like to recreate history thats why I chause Old History ,making things looking alive as they were now like long gone buildings...the Sasanide village for example that is what I like to do..
Recreating History from the contents of a wastepaper basket would be the right way of saying it, and writting about it.
An other WHY...if EU2 would be upgradet to a world-complet game I think It will do better than Victoria...
That is why I startet to work on a Sasanide Scenario e.t as a independent Scenario or as a part of the IFU scenario...preses thus next to the Franks empire Sc.
Writting the "History of the Sasanid Empire "right now, I will use this as stearing guide for the scenario..
And one day I hope to make a Eskimo or Inuit Scenario with (who knows) my one maps.. :D

You'll have to ask paradox for that. ;) Anyway, the source of the map is not really important. I we manage to master the map codec, the source of where it comes from doesn't really matter. It could be a Paint file, a photoshop file, an illustrator file, or a combination of more than one filetype.

AFAIK, Paradox converts the Illustrator/Photoshop files they use to a RAW format, which is then converted into the lightmap files. We could employ a similar process (and we probably will) (all under provision that somebody finds out how the codec works ;) ).

And Andrashi, I really don't see how you maps fit in here. They're great ideas, but don't feel they contribute to the topic of the thread.

Inferis, have you found out what the "Rosetta stone" Johan posted is? Some kind of script for C++ to decompile the map or something?

It's the code that "decompresses" a block in the lightmap file. I understand what 90% of the code does (ie I can uncompress most blocks) except for a crucial 10% part. But that 10% code is actually pretty crucial to the whole process.

Can you tell us which part ? Maybe, some of us can help you.

Well this may be a stupid question then: can't you just use the code then? I don't understand how EU2.exe is coded, yet I understand how to play the game... :D

I think he is showing the great faith he has in you that you would be able to hack the map so that we can use custom maps... :D
Take it as a compliment that he has gotten so ahead of himself in his excitement...

I've just stumbled upon this thread and read it all (forget the exam I have in 2 hours). It reads like a great novel: with lots of action, Gods' intervention, the main protagonist loosing hope and then suddenly realising his dreams might actually come true...

Unfortunately I can't add much to the thread, but I'll say that the whole Polish Victoria community is watching this thread with desperate hope in their eyes.
Hail to the king!
Cheers

At least partly true Sir...
I have no reason NOT to have trust in Mr Inferis even if his remark was out of place...
A Map making/creating discusion and Maps should somehowe be relatet I think...being not to much of a computer technician I might not contribute to solving the "Anderson stone" however I thry as good as I can even if thatis not "visable".
I remember quite well that I asket Mr Inferis, on his Homepage about the hacking of the TBL files, wich programs he used to read what he already had published..
As far as I remember it, and my memory somethimes failes me I confes, I already tolt him what I wanted to do...,also that I was willing to help as far as I could.
However he might have mist my response to his homepage...happens every day so to say.
Thus I repeat my request...
--------------------
Correckt me if Iam wrong....
If one can draw up a province and put its name and coordinates on to the Prov. list IN the TBL file and put the Map into the BOUNDBOX TBL file then the program wil compres it by it self as it does with the map in general...
Might work....might not work its worth a shot? isn't it ?
But to try I need to know with what program I can read those TBL's....
Like sailing from Edenburgh to London by Stockholm...avoiding the rock

Friendly greetings :)
