This is going to ask a lot of people, but I really need some help.
I created what I thought was a simple mod to tailor the game a little more to my tastes (mostly to un-nerf the Byzantines and change some other things). Starting in 867, the mod worked great and I've played two campaigns into the 1100's without a problem.
However, I decided to try the 1066 start date. I tailored the start to create a custom character and gave her more of a demesne than usual (and set Seljuk borders at historical levels for 1066).
Now, the mod causes the game to just stop. There is no real pattern to it. Originally it started in about 1110 (although reloading got me to 1116). When I run the game in observe, it sometimes will make it to 1125 without crashing. It sometimes will start around 1100.
I've gone back over all of my changes and I just can't figure out what one could be causing this. And the game's logs don't tell you much of anything about the bug (it's an exception in the Exceptions log that AndrewT said doesn't give much information).
I would really appreciate it if people could look at the files and let me know if they see something that might be causing crashes around 1100. There are a lot of little changes in the files in the mod, so I will try to summarize what I was trying to do below.
Events - Tried to eliminate all the events that cause you to be fat from firing (these were just excessive)
Localisation - Renamed Greek and German emperors back to emperor/empress (this was the most important change)
History - Titles - Gave the Byzantine Emperor in 867 and 1066 more territory and changed the 1066 Byzantine Emperor from Constantine Doukas to a fictional daughter. Also made the Varangians appear earlier and broke up the Seljuk super-state in 1066.
History - Characters - Created a custom Byzantine empress for 1066. I used a number created by the ruler designer when I was playing with her appearance. I wonder if the crash happens when the game tries to use this number a second time.
Common - CB Types - Gave the Byzantines the Imperial Reconquest CB and tried to keep vassals from waging holy wars
Common - Landed Titles - Eliminated the Kingdom of Sardinia because my Strategi were creating it the instant I reconquered Sardinia (this kingdom is just too easy to create)
Common - Defines - Speaks for itself
Common - governments - I actually don't remember what I changed here
Common - Religions - I took away the ability for Jihads. My working theory is that this change is causing the trouble because Jihads would start sometime around 1100.
Common - Crown Laws - Tried to limit external vassal wars sooner. This file might be unnecessary with the CB changes.
Common - Opinion Modifiers - reduced some penalties for owning more territory and other changes
Common - Succession Voting - reduced penalties for nominating a child for the Byzantine Empire
Common - Mercenaries - Tried to make the Varangians into more of a simulation of the fact that Byzantium had a standing army
I am at a loss on which of these changes could be causing a problem. I've trying to peel them back one at a time to see what happens in observe games and I haven't had much luck. I thought I would beg people here for some help since others might be much better modders than me.
This mod worked for many, many decades of play. I'm not sure why it suddenly stopped working using a 1066 start after about 50 years.
