This is going to ask a lot of people, but I really need some help.

I created what I thought was a simple mod to tailor the game a little more to my tastes (mostly to un-nerf the Byzantines and change some other things). Starting in 867, the mod worked great and I've played two campaigns into the 1100's without a problem.

However, I decided to try the 1066 start date. I tailored the start to create a custom character and gave her more of a demesne than usual (and set Seljuk borders at historical levels for 1066).

Now, the mod causes the game to just stop. There is no real pattern to it. Originally it started in about 1110 (although reloading got me to 1116). When I run the game in observe, it sometimes will make it to 1125 without crashing. It sometimes will start around 1100.

I've gone back over all of my changes and I just can't figure out what one could be causing this. And the game's logs don't tell you much of anything about the bug (it's an exception in the Exceptions log that AndrewT said doesn't give much information).

I would really appreciate it if people could look at the files and let me know if they see something that might be causing crashes around 1100. There are a lot of little changes in the files in the mod, so I will try to summarize what I was trying to do below.

Events - Tried to eliminate all the events that cause you to be fat from firing (these were just excessive)
Localisation - Renamed Greek and German emperors back to emperor/empress (this was the most important change)
History - Titles - Gave the Byzantine Emperor in 867 and 1066 more territory and changed the 1066 Byzantine Emperor from Constantine Doukas to a fictional daughter. Also made the Varangians appear earlier and broke up the Seljuk super-state in 1066.
History - Characters - Created a custom Byzantine empress for 1066. I used a number created by the ruler designer when I was playing with her appearance. I wonder if the crash happens when the game tries to use this number a second time.
Common - CB Types - Gave the Byzantines the Imperial Reconquest CB and tried to keep vassals from waging holy wars
Common - Landed Titles - Eliminated the Kingdom of Sardinia because my Strategi were creating it the instant I reconquered Sardinia (this kingdom is just too easy to create)
Common - Defines - Speaks for itself
Common - governments - I actually don't remember what I changed here
Common - Religions - I took away the ability for Jihads. My working theory is that this change is causing the trouble because Jihads would start sometime around 1100.
Common - Crown Laws - Tried to limit external vassal wars sooner. This file might be unnecessary with the CB changes.
Common - Opinion Modifiers - reduced some penalties for owning more territory and other changes
Common - Succession Voting - reduced penalties for nominating a child for the Byzantine Empire
Common - Mercenaries - Tried to make the Varangians into more of a simulation of the fact that Byzantium had a standing army

I am at a loss on which of these changes could be causing a problem. I've trying to peel them back one at a time to see what happens in observe games and I haven't had much luck. I thought I would beg people here for some help since others might be much better modders than me.

This mod worked for many, many decades of play. I'm not sure why it suddenly stopped working using a 1066 start after about 50 years.

Did a quick test and game crashed at 1085 for me. When I run validator on it I get a lot of characters that are born before the parents were together and should be bastards, 14 year olds that are married, characters that are 102 years old. Religions like bon, taoist, hellenic_pagan_reformed are not valid.

Game log file:

This was tested on vanilla ck2 with only your mod enabled.

Guessing check religion file and characters. Novice at modding so I can't really help any further than this. Hope it helps though.

I pulled the religion file out. I'm not sure what is causing some of that. All I did was try to get rid of jihads, but I'll start over.

I'm not sure that the other character stuff should cause a crash. That's just the replacement of Doukas as Emperor with a new character. If that was causing the crash, I don't think it would even get past 1066.

I didn't change anyone's ages. So I don't know how that is working.

I super, super appreciate the help.

Pulling out religion and the landed_titles files have let me run two games to 100+ years on observe.

Edit: Ha! Two straight games went to 1166 without problem. Third test, died in 1080. Ugh.

This is so frustrating. What could be coming up so randomly and infrequently?

Checking the religion file against the vanilla ck2 file gives a lot of flags for text that is not in your religion file, but I think this is because of dlc's you don't have. {intermarry and random start parameters are not in your file which Holy Fury adds}

Your HFP_health_events.txt is also pretty much emtpy for me except the commented stuff. Don't know if something went wrong with including this in your zip file or if I am missing something. Wanted to see {*cough* copy *cough*} what you did as the fat trait gets handed out a bit to excessive for my taste to.

Quick test with religion file deleted and the game runs past 1125 with no problems.

Should have mentioned ck2 vanilla is with all dlc's enabled for me.

My health events file IS empty. I think that eliminates all the health events. I've never had one fire since I used it. I couldn't figure out a way to tone them down and they drove me nuts.

Deleting the religion file definitely seems to help . . . some. I got two games to run 100 years. But then I had a crash on another one.

So I think it's something else. I can't figure it out.

I ran the validator and all the character problems mentioned above are in the vanilla greek.txt file. I just copied the full text into mine and added a new character. None of the changes I made are flagged.

I had two working theories and both seem wrong. The first was that it was something I did in the religions file. The second was that my new character was using an ID that ended up getting reused down the line, causing a crash. That actually doesn't seem possible.
