Hi guys
Haven't been on this forum for a good while due to other problems in my life but I did start playing EU2 again a week or so ago. I am playing EU2v1.07bBETA Nov 24 2003. I know there are newer versions but I am familiar with this one and don't care for some of the alterations I have heard have been made to newer versions.
Here's the problem. Have been playing along for a week or so, a couple of different games. All of a sudden today when the game went to attempt to autosave it locked up and I received a "R6025 Runtime Error pure virtual function call" It also says VISUAL C + + Runtime Error and that evidently the problem is somewhere in Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2\EU2.exe.
Here is what I did to attempt to fix. After restarting computer I restarted the game and tried to load the game that was supposedly autosaved. This did not work, computer simply froze up during "Reading Scenario". Then I tried reloading a previous saved game, which it did, and let it run for a couple of months and then tried to save game--I could not save, got the same R60025 Error message and lockup when I tried to save.
Then I went into my system and made sure my paging file was set high enough (it was, 477MB). I also deleted a whole mess of saved games that I had hoping that might help. I tried saving a game again and still got the Runtime Error.
Oh, by the way, I am running XP Pro and have had no major problems with EU2 before this so I thought that if there was some system problem I might be able to fix things by going back to one of the Restore points. I went back to one from 4 days ago when I knew for sure that I had played EU2 with no problems but when I tried to restore the computer said it could not restore because no changes had been made to the system.
So what, if anything, can I do to fix this? I haven't had problems with any of my other programs (at least so far). In any case, a Windows reinstall is not a viable solution as, alas, I have no discs to do this. Also, don't know if I could reinstall EU2 to the Beta version that I currently have. If you guys remember me, I had problems getting patches to work.
Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this? By the way, the game itself seems to run fine, I just can't save or autosave anything, which in essence, makes it useless!!
Please help.
Ron
