I downloaded the latest RoI release of this and I have two eye sores that i'm not sure are intended or not. First off the background behind all portraits is not circular so it doesn't fit into the portrait circle, its more of a half oval and rather ugly with the points sticking out of the circle.
the is a problem here indeed. not sure if it can be mod related (portraits ?) or not.

Secondly the character of interest circle is still there but blank, and the old marraige rings button's circle is still there but blank, the new one is beside the ambitions which is precariously placed slightly on top of the left border of the window. Are these all intended somehow like artistic or am I seeing a bug or an issue related to a resolution you guys do not support? (playing on the lowest resolution the game supports).
WAD^^

So I've started a game as the Duke of Semien, and... the Abassids have two Jewish vassalised merc companies of six people? What's going on there? o_O

The vassalized mercs are a roundabout way to represent the Jewish exilarchies (both the Karaite and non-Karaite exilarchies). If we'd made the exilarchs normal landed vassals it's very likely the Caliph would've tried to force convert them, which obviously wouldn't really make sense; making them mercs was a way to go around this. (And also to ensure the exilarchies survive even if they don't have land.)

Do they actually... you know, do anything except pointlessly get sent to their deaths by the caliphate?

Are there any restrictions for their appereance? I actually never cared for the exilarchs before you mentioned them in this post, but when I searched for them I only found the Karaite Exilarch creeping arround.

If you're not Jewish? Then no, they're as useless to you as one of the backwater tribes in Siberia (no offense to said tribes in Siberia).

If you're Jewish? Well, they're not the head of their religion per se, but they do get a bit more interesting as Gothic Emperor said once the Kingdom of Israel is created. When Israel is created, they'll eventually "migrate" or make aliyah to Israel (i.e. become your vassal). Being of the House of David, they might end up getting weak claims on the Kingdom of Israel, particularly if you decided not to claim descent from the House of David yourself. That means there's always a chance there will be a claimant faction war that wants to knock you off the throne of Israel.

Also, there's a few special events - somewhat more on the maintainence side - that ensures they'll have healthy male heirs (since, well, mercenary bands usually odn't pump out kids), and also destroys the exilarchy if it is no longer held by someone descended from David (i.e. some random courtier inherits it).

The exilarchies appear in most starts except for some of the late ones (like after the Mongol invasions or something). They'll continue to exist so long as the title is held by someone with the "House of David" trait.

One's the head of the Karaite faith IIRC. The fun really starts when someone creates the Kingdom of Israel; the exilarchs get claims on that title.

They aren't head of the Jewish faiths per se, I think there was a bit of discussion ages ago as to whether the exilarchs should have been the head of the Jewish faiths, but for various reasons we decided to make them faux mercenary companies as we felt it was a better way to simulate the historical reality.

Hi, another suggestion for the next version. In the personal combat, it would be cool if you got some prestige or piety for what you do. I know you can get prestige for beating a guy, but letting him live and just imprisoning him when he cries "I give" or "yield" or something. But I just started a game as Alfred of Wessex and I slayed Ivar the Boneless in combat; quite a feat considering he had 4 star personal combat (as does Alfred). So maybe you could get some prestige based on the rank (duke, count, etc.) of the individual, as well as based on their personal skill. And of course a little piety for slaying someone of the religion you're having the religious war against.

I don't know if this goes here in HIP, or if it goes in the individual page of whichever module added the personal combat, sorry if this is the wrong place and feel free to forward / copy the idea if you like.

The Exilarchies both died out more or less immediately for me. Somehow I don't think tiny mercenary companies vassalised to the caliphate have good survival rates...

It's not impossible for them to die out early, as in the beginning of the game (depending on start date) they tend to not have that many family members. Also if you're in one of the later starts the event announcing the end of the exilarchy may still fire immediately because the exilarchies have no holders from those start dates.

Generally the fact that they're a mercenary company vassalized to someone should increase their survival rate compared to if they were just a normal vassal.

Well, this was early on, so probably.

Also: I get the feeling that the 'form Kingdom of Israel' event should be altered so that it gets the de jure lands of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Otherwise, the required lands to form it are never de jure part of it.

If I remember correctly I've altered vanilla's Israel event so that all lands under the kingdom of Jerusalem become de jure part of the kingdom of Israel.

Really? I only tried it out without Immersion. Did you alter crusade weights to take into account the fact that Jihads/Crusades can't target the region, as well?

The alterations to vanilla's Israel event are in Immersion, so that's why you missed on it.

And concerning Jihads/Crusades, I believe in VIET Immersion I think - though I'll have to check it again - I also made sure the Kingdom of Israel has Crusade/Jihad weights, wouldn't make sense for Muslims/Christians to suddenly not care about Jerusalem if it's owned by the Jews. There are also events that handle a situation where Israel is conquered by a Christian/Muslim, so it'll revert back to the Kingdom of Jerusalem (along with de jure land) in such a situation

So I just stumbled upon this mod and I really like it so far. One question , I also found THIS mod and I would know if someone knows if it would be compatible? I guess not as it adds a lot of traits and changes characters to implement the bloodline system, Though that bloodline system and the ability to grant more noble titles (like knighthood) is very nice and something I wanted for a while now
