It took months to get an 867 bookmark working.
769 has even fewer historical sources. So they don't consider it worth the increased effort.

I can understand their decision, but it'll be great since the 769 start is a good date for Role-playing reasons...

Awesome, thanks!

I saw on the PB beta that there's something about maintenance events for the HRE and ERE: is that a viceroy fix that reapplies the laws on game load?
Paradox broke triggered modifiers, so we had to move the HRE and ERE laws of PB (decentralization and themes) to demesne laws instead.
As a result, some maintenance events are required to ensure the correct laws are active.

Ah, okay. And is it intentional that ERE starts with minimum centralization and feudal administration instead of high and imperial?

edit: Okay, this is really weird. I started a new game and imperial administration is back. Weiird. Wonder why I had feudal in that other game? Centralization is still low, though.

Centralization starts at minimum for everyone. Not even the Byzantines were effectively centralized in the sense of this law. High levels of centralization should only really come into play in late game when whole duchies have been swallowed whole by the royal demesne. Most importantly, though, centralization law is unlocked by TECH_LEGALISM, and thus you can see the issues giving anything but minimum to startup rulers.

That makes sense. I'm kinda miffed that I won't be able to play in 769 with HIP, but I think I'll be able to hold back the tears.

What's wrong with simply deselecting SWMH in the installer? You can play with everything else in HIP in 769. If you don't select SWMH, then HIP uses the vanilla map and thus 769 becomes available.

Though, I must say, I do find the vanilla 769 start to be of very little replay value. I'd definitely prefer one of the discussed alternate history mash-up bookmarks from EMF on the SWMH map to the vanilla map's 769 start. [Except I'd have to create it!]

Hm. Yeah, I guess the law doesn't really have anything to do with Byzantine-style bureaucratic centralization. The ERE didn't have a large imperial domain or anything like that. Not sure I quite understand the second issue though, as it's possible to grant a starting law to someone who doesn't qualify for it tech-wise.

Either way though -- cool, was just wondering if it was intentional. :)

For me the HIP is an all or nothing thing; playing without one aspect of it just seems pointless.

Plus, the map is my favourite part of HIP.

Exactly. I hope that ARKOpack will be ready soon. Together with SWMH, they create the historical feeling of the game.

Question, was it one of the HIP mods that prevented former liege's from having claims on the titles of nations have peacefully become independent as a result of a faction? I was just playing as brunswick in the CM start and after saxony was eaten a lot of us joined an independence faction, charlie let us go but got strong claims on all of us and just happened to choose me as the first one to roflstomp with 10000 men :'(

has the claims changed recently or is this an oversight?

I think Crusades/Jihads can happen early if a different religion takes over a place that it's not meant to be in. Like, Byzantines expanding into the Middle-East or the Spanish Muslims expanding into France

Yes, in vanilla, if the Christians don't control all of Rome, Provence, Toulouse, Paris, e_byzantium, Constantinople, Ancyra and either Athens or Corinth, the Christian crusades can start at any time. For the Muslims, it's Jerusalem, Mecca, Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, Marrakesh, Tunis, and Al Djazair. The Pagans can't start until one of the other 2 do.

I wonder, with SWMH team out of the picture, who do I have to terrorize with historical suggestions? Also are there any plans to fix cultures and realms in CM, like renaming Russian precursors etc?

The SWMH team isn't gone, just extraordinarily busy. The modding they do do, is focused on their Asian expansion.
I guess once that's done, they'll be open to editing other areas once more.
