Version 1.02b of HOI: The Great War is ready for download. It is recommended that when playing the mod, that the autosave option is set to 'monthly' as this will ensure that any outstanding problems will not have an adverse effect on the progress of a user's game, and that the date of any persistent bugs can be taken note of.

The two versions below are for a clean install of HOI:

TGW Full (13.9 MB)

TGW Light (3.2 MB) - containing only "necessary" graphics - flags, sprites and in-game details.

The ModDir version:

TGW for ModDir

Lite link doesn't work. (Fortunately I'm on a DS3 line so I can get the full :).)

activating new unit types

Haven't installed it yet but looked at the files after reading your "TEAM: Questions" thread. Have you verified that your techs activating fighters, etc. actually work? ISTR that the C.O.R.E. team found that the activate unit command only worked on the specific units that it is used for in vanilla HoI (para, marines, mot., mech, etc.).

No. But I just tested activating bombers as Britain by researching the appropriate techs, and it worked. Hopefully it will for other units too.

That may depend on the bombers, though. Which one did you activate? Was it one that can be unavailable at start in HOI (like the dive bomber)? Real confirmation would be if you could have fighters made available through tech. (OTOH, as fighters not being available at start is reported to crash the game, that might not be a good idea)

I could be confusing this with something else. I just did a little test with editing a vanilla HoI savegame so allowed = { infantry = no } and then was able to activate the infantry with an edited tech.

The bomber (tactical bomber) is available at start in vanilla HoI, but isn't in TGW. Thus, a standard HoI unit that can be activated through tech.

Any ETA on a moddir version? I'm anxious to play but I don't want to have to replace CORE.

It's not too hard to turn 1.02b into a mod-dir version. Just uncompress into a directory (called mod-tgw, for example), take the mod's province.csv to replace the hoi one (back up the hoi and core ones, you'll need them). For every file in mod-tgw\db\leaders and mod-tgw\db\ministers that isn't in hoi\db\leaders and hoi\db\ministers create an empty one there. Also do the reverse. Create a shortcut to run the patched hoi.exe with mod-tgw as a parameter and you should be all set.

Is the smaller download the update from 1.01?

Thanks,
Richmond

Both versions are updates from 1.01 - the smaller version excludes a large number of graphics, however.

Tremendous news! I thought I was paying attention, but I never was good at following directions- I seem to have botched up the install.

Any ETA on the moddir version of 1.02b?

cheers!

When it is tested (within the next twelve hours or so), then I shall give the go ahead for its release.

The ModDir version will be the same as the clean-install version, but adapted so that it can go inside the standard HOI folder.

Allows installing the mod while keeping the normal HOI running correctly.

OK, it still doesn't do exactly that, but it's a hell of a lot better than a ful overwrite. BTW, I was looking at the mod-dir readme, and it is a bit pessimistic on the "won't be able to run normal HOI" part. If you make a copy of the EXE, and have one patched and the other unpatched you can use HOI both ways. That also works if you use the generic No Time Limit patch instead of the specialised TGW one. The province.csv problem can be solved with a little batch file magic. :)

Cool!
Can I install it after I installed TGW? Or must it be before??
Btw does it work on other mods too???
