yeah it didnt work when i did it, i started it up and it wasnt windowed and all the scenarios and save games were missing

then you have done something wrong.

does your shortcut look like this: "D:\HoI 2 Doomsday\HoI2.exe" WINDOWED

It doesn't work for me either, but I have a different problem. It just crashes before it's finished loading the main menu. I've tried it with both XP and Vista, so it must be a hardware incompatibility or something. It's not a game error dialog, but the generic windows one that shows up when a program crashes. Windowed mode would be real nice.

Is the graphics pack I use perhaps causing this?

That is strange. Try using the latest graphics card drivers, though it will not change much i bet... Oh and are you on the latest patch of DD? I think it does not work with the versions before that!

Did anyone ever figure out how to help the guy above who followed the WINDOWED directions but when he started the game got no scenarios or saved games?

I am getting the same results. Interestingly, in the upper right-hand corner of the game, it does say WIDNOWED even though it is not.

Thanks for any help given.

I think the presence of " " in the target line actually makes a difference, try adding them and see if that works.

I'm getting the same results - it has the word 'windowed' on the screen, it isn't windowed, and it isn't seeing the scenario/save files.
I have the most recent drivers, in fact I just bought the machine last week. I'm using xp pro sp2.
The quote marks do not stay in the bar. I.e. I type in ' "D:\Dor\HoI2DD\HoI2.exe" WINDOWED', hit apply and the double-quotes disappear.
Does 'windowed' need to be all caps? Well, I've tried it both ways with no change.

1. link properties are: "c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\hoI2.exe" WINDOWED - not "C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\hoi2.exe WINDOWED"

2. Windowe Mode works very good but in every display size greater then 1024x768 with 16 bit colour.

3. Windowed Mode is not supported by Paradox. It's only an option which can work, but not nessesery.

Thanks for the useful info. For some reason there is no button in the corner to shrink the screen. Any idea what that is?

FOR THE "SCENARIO-MISSING":

I did this and it worked to me:

Instead of 1 space, add 8. If it doesn't work....play in fullscreen.

You could also create a BAT script that starts hoi2.exe WINDOWED. That solved my problems with no scenarios appearing in windowed mode.

Alternatively, you could start a cmd shell and navigate to the hoi2 dd folder, and then start the game from there. But a BAT script should do it.

If you don't know how to create a BAT script, open up notepad and write:

Code:
cd /d [[I]Path to HoI2: DD dir[/I]]
hoi2.exe WINDOWED

Then save it as "hoi2.bat" (WITH the quotation marks).

Perhaps there's a simpler solution, but since I installed Vista, the only thing that happens when I run a shortcut with the WINDOWED flag, is that the game starts up with some random characters beneath the checksum, and no scenarios or saved games are available.
