I want to start this thread, if there isnt one already, to give ideas, to show appreciation/motive, and to just let creative juices flow. maybe the devs will use one of your ideas or something like it.....anyways..... here goes nothin'
I have not even one game behind my belt, but im playing as tarka. imo, it seems like a waste of the devs hard work, to write programs on making battlecruisers, and not have a leviathan hunter-carrier. if theres some noob reason why this isnt done, im open-minded. i think they are the only ones with BC's, so it would make sense, in my mind, to utilize them more.
Also, i noticed that the energy branch has much more options than the other 3 weapon branches. i dont know alot about the game, sorry if i just sound stupid, but missiles and torpedoes just dont have the options the other two have. you could make a type of torpedo that has a rate of fire, at the cost of damage, or tracking. it would be cool if you have a torpedo that "goes through" ships and does damage over time, while shrinking in the process, and as it homes in on its target(s), it loses mass/damage until it shrinks into nothing......you could also make a beam like that, which would be good at flanking and would go through ALL targets in front of it.
as a ship section that could combat a barrage of planetary defense missiles/space station missiles, they could have a MIRV PD system.
A "concussion" type missile which kills crews would be a neat idea, as a rarely have needed the module that gives me more crew.
Kinetic is tough to come up with new material, as its just a gun basically. You could make upgrades for more damage by making more and more dense materials. Like super dense metals found in stars, with the ultimate being "black hole" type material. A rapid fire kinetic weapon would also be a feasable PD weapon if you can spare the supply.
I like the "realism" that most 4x games, including sots2, puts into the gameplay. eg. you start out with fission, then fusion, then antimatter etc..........
if you guys want some ideas on what to use next in an expansion or sequel, theres "dark matter", "strange matter", also when blackholes are formed they release alot of energy as well. maybe in 1000s of years when we understand about "dark" and "strange" matter we'll find anti dark and strange matter as well, but in the mean time, its something you could use in the game.
as far as sections go, youve got them all pretty much covered and i cant really think of anything, other than this which i got from the game earth 2160. in that game, one of the races has a weapon which kills the driver of the vehicle. you could make a module that specializes in "microwaving" the crew inside, just damagine organic units, so you can send in your marines, more easily, and board thier ships and take them over. imo, it would work with the boarding module, or you could kinda combine the two......... just an idea.
as far as ship building options, theres plenty of them to fill any role one would need. with the sliders, design screen, and the strat/tact maps the game is really fun to play. so id like to thank the dev team and everyone for their hard work for bringing this game to what it is now, and i hope you will continue adding stuff, as you will have my money. so any xpacs, dlc's and sequels you make, i will buy. there have been games released too early, but after 95, yes i counted, patches, the game is pretty friggin' fun. so keep up the good work, and dont listen to complainers, i have a retail job and no matter what you do you can never make everyone happy.
