I'm doing my best to help Humankind numbers. I started playing it this week and it is quite a blast, honestly. 6 months ago they made it so you can choose to keep your culture through eras and allow multiple players to have the same culture. The result is now I can keep major themes of my civ cohesive through the whole game and I don't have to worry about another player snatching a culture I want. The game is gorgeous too.

Good afternoon,

This is the second week of october and there is a decrease week to week for all GSG 24h Peak players (-4,71%) with PDX down -4,13% and other publishers -5,07%.

Tier 1 games sees HOI IV going up after the announcement of the season pass and the plan for the next months. CK III goes back to Tier 2 with Victoria 3 also declining to be the top dog of Tier 3 games.

For Tier 4 games we see Age of Wonders 4 going up after the announcement of next expansions. Norland, ARA and HUMANKIND share similar numbers similar to I:R, Old World and Victoria II.

NOTE: we have finally released our update for the HMOV2 mod, we hope to improve the MP scene for I:R for the next months

Good afternoon,

This week there is yet another decrease of 24h peak GSG players and this is the third consecutive week. Overall there is a -3,77% decrease, with PDX taking -3,32% hit and other publishers -4,06%. While PDX is back to the long trend numbers, the total number of players is well below the long term trend (see OP chart).

Tier 1 games is a tie between Civ VI and HOI IV, Tier 2 is more spread out but CKIII still king after the successful DLC and Tier 3 has Victoria 3 as the leading game this week:

For Tier 4 games we confirm the status of ARA on pair with Millennia and the other CIV alike HUMANKIND and Old World. The other games in the category remain without big changes this week:

It's worth noting for someone reading this in the future that the bump in EU 4 player numbers in most likely to the massive sale for said game.

It's interesting that Norland hasn't become popular, as it is supposed to be a fusion of two popular games, CK and Rimworld.

It's also strange that some games have very irregular player numbers with big jumps back and forth. Compare this to smoother standard of stability with peaks at expansion releases and gradual falloff. This is very notable for Civ VI and HoI 4 where their large player count means we would expect smoother graphs.

Because this is a one weekly point per game there will appear jumps back and forth.

A trailing 12-month mean will give us a smoother line but will clutter the chart if added. If we remove the weekly point and only showed the mean, we will loose the opportunity to interpret the weekly bumps by sales, DLC releases, news and reactions to competition, as you have noted.

Good afternoon,

This week the GSG Age of History III has been released and the overall 24h peak players have increased +5,19%, with other publishers 7,61% but also PDX increasing +1,44%.

TIER 1 games remain as always with CIV VI and HOI IV on top, TIER 2 remains piloted by CKIII with TIER 3 has Victoria 3 on top although Age of History III almost takes this spot.

For TIER 4 games we see that Age of History II has a steady group of followers, just under CK II and Age of Wonders 4. The other games sees a big decrease for ARA and NORLAND, two recently released games.

A few suggestions to reduce clutter a bit:
- The blue Manor Lords graph line is still shown, even if it has no new data points or label. I recommend removing this line.
- Workers & Resources might still count as a "grand strategy" game, but is it really relevant for comparison at all? Maybe with ARA, but I doubt it otherwise. Can probably be removed from the graph.
- ARA having a white label and a orange-yelow line very close in color to AoW 4 is very confusing. Using consistent and distinctive colors here would make the graph clearer.

Good afternoon,

Overall players are up this week a bit +1,18% with other publishers up +5,01% but PDX going the opposite direction -5,12%

Thanks to @C.N. , I have applied the suggestions to make the charts clearer.

TIER 1 games remain the same, TIER 2 games has Warhammer III surpassing CK III this week while TIER 3 games has Victoria on top with Age of History III losing some steam after his first week.

TIER 4 remains stable this week with newly released games going down and staying with very low players. Is the genre not being able to seduce new players?

Good afternoon,

This week GSG 24h Peak players decrease -4,31% with other publishers going down -6,90% and PDX staying aflot with +0,43%

TOP tier games remain a thing between HOI IV and CIV VI however both are down this week. TIER II has Warhammer III leading the pack with the other games are very close together. TIER III is controlled by Victoria 3 and sees Age of Wonders 4 back to this category with the release this week of its latest DLC:

Tier IV shows ARA doing a similar curve like Start Trek: infinite and Milennia, very disappointing. I:R and HUMANKIND recover some players for two consecutive weeks.

Interesting, it seems like in HoI4 should be taking the lead in the coming weeks, with the new DLC releasing.

Good evening everyone,

This week numbers are stable +0,13% with PDX on the positive +0,80% while other publishers are a negative -0,26%.

I am surprised to see HOI IV not taking the first spot in TIER I games this week with the release of Wagner Opera DLC, however, we are on Wednesday and next week we may see increased numbers of players. Warhammer III remains on top of TIER II this week although the incumbent CK III is gaining back terrain. For TIER III we see Age of Wonders 4 taking over Victoria 3 after the DLC release, kudos for them.

TIER IV games see the entrance of Age of History III going down to the same numbers of players as Age of History II. The other games remain fairly similar except for Millenia that increases players with the release of DUKE NUKEM expansion while ARA goes into even deeper disappointment.

Yes and no...the expansion releases tomorrow, so the usual spike from new players/old players flocking (back) to play new content isn't yet in. I'm aware that you are likely refering to a kind of "attention effect" even before the release and I'm not saying it isn't there (HoI had a very slight uptick), but it might be nullified by some players pausing in the week right before the DLC release (reason: to slow to start/finish another playthrough before and not wanting to abandon their saves respectively ending them under legacy version, when shiny new stuff wants to be played in the same game ;) )

This, the one with a DLC released was CK3, I'm surprised the uptick was so slight. It was a minor DLC, but still...

Too close to the last CK3 update, to pull people back in. Also, competition from other games seems likely. This last month I have had a feeling of too many releases that I have ignored due to being busy with Factorio.

Looking at ARA, and Norland, and that they are both games that tried to combine two genres, I wonder if they did it in a way that was clunky or forced?
Sure, CK 2/3 was a success, but strategy/RPG mix was something that grew and happened slowly over time. Taking a strategy formula that worked, and added mechanics to it. Have these new games instead tried to fuse two mediocre implementations together?

We had the Steam Free Weekend which has the bigger impact on our player numbers. The question is going to be how much of those get converted and if the numbers remain higher.

Good evening,

This week overall numbers are up +3.05% with PDX increasing +10,22% and other publishers decreasing -1,23%

Maybe it is the twilight of HOI IV after eight years but this week it is the king of GSG with a big increase, only surpassed in our chart by the 28/09/2022 point.

TIER II games remain controlled by Total Warhammer III

TIER III games has one more week Age of Wonders 4 on top even if they have lost some of the players won in the free weekend. Victoria 3 tomorrow will see the release of 1.8 & DLC, very hyped about it but I am a fringe player, we will see what is the general public reception.

TIER IV games show one big increase for NORLAND with a discount all week and one small increase for ARA after its update last week.

The other games remain on their trend with Millenia still going up after its latest DLC release.

Good morning, sorry for the one day delay for work related issues.

This week, the overall numbers are down -1,53% with PDX down -2,60% and other publishers -0,82%

TIER I games remain for HOI IV the second consecutive week, a feat never before achieved in this chart.

TIER II games is for Warhammer III and the PDS star pack: CKII, EUIV and Stellaris. EDITED: and Civ V in between.

TIER III games is for Victoria 3 with the latest DLC and free week. Hopefully we get more people to play this niche game of a niche genre (niche ^2). Age of Wonders 4 seems to consolidate in this group but we do not discard it going back to TIER IV game in the following weeks despite the good publicity and fantastic updates.

TIER IV games have a decrease for almost all titles except for CK II and I:R although there are a bunch of other games that also increase a bit. We could say that remain in their long term trend. The disappointment if we consider the high expectations and first day players is for Age of History III that is almost at the same level that its predecessor.
