Can you tell us about how much naval units/buildings will play a part in fairly "standard" continents-style maps? Did you feel enticed to interact with water tiles in terms of Ancient Wonders or other rewards?

What do you have to do to unlock new ones?
This bit I can answer since we detailed it elsewhere. For Tomes on Tier 1-3 you need to research two Tomes on the preceeding Tier, these can be of any Affinity. For Tiers 4 & 5 there is an Affinity requirement that needs to be met. Of course whenever you get to pick a new Tome you can also go back and choose one from an earlier Tier.

The rest of the Q's I'll leave for Devil.

I'm a bit curious myself what it means to research tomes to unlock the next. Does it mean before you can pick another tome you have to research everything that tome gives you?

Have a look at our streams, on the research screen you'll see 'Next Tome: X Research Cycles'

I think it was said that you need half of the technologies researched. So if tome has 5 options to research I imagine you need 3.

Oh thanks! Must've missed it, it was my second guess though and I like that's the case, leaves more freedom to finish a tome later or fit in generic spell research.

Do you get to pick what tome you want to research? like if im aiming for say tome of beasts do i just gotta hope it pops up or can i actually pick it if i have the prereqs
Tome of beasts is Tier 1 so extrapolating form Jordi said it doesn't have prerequisites.
As it was shown in pre-order trailer (1:25 time mark) you can pick the tomes that you want from the "list"

I mean in game like after u pick your first tome i just used tome of beasts as an example off the top of my head i was mostly just curious if i had to bank on random chance to get the tome i'm looking for or if it was a list, so thats awesome if you get a list to pick from in game as well

I believe that's the list that you choose next Time so seems pretty open to pick whichever you want but could be some restrictions that were not revealed yet so I'm like 85% sure

What were your favouritite tomes and could you please shed some light on what they do? Also, could you please tell us how high the affinity requirements for tier 4 and 5 tomes are?

What is about city cap? That’s what many seem to be concerned about, me for sure. What was it value at start and in end game phase? Did it depend on map size? Have you conquered cities from AI rulers and what did you do with that cities?
According to Gamestar (comment section) the soft cap in the late game is seven cities (IE without penalties I guess). To reach seven you need to increase the limit through investments in the affinity tree though.

Question 4: Oh two more! Is the maps like in PF where west and east loops around as opposed to AoW3 where all edges were the border? If so, is that for underground as well?

I think a east-west-loop is unlikely. Somewhere one of the devs clarified that realms are not whole planets or planes but only parts of it, like the valley of wonders. So a rotation wouldn't make sense.

Hey Rob,

thank you for your great review and answers. Your extremely positive attitude during your writing and answering here alone are the best advertising possible. The game does not only look great, you show us, it also plays great as well. I could not be more happy now.

You wrote in your review:
Hell, what’s worse is that the culture-specific units are very limited and become practically useless by the mid to late game. Okay, I’m being too nice… they’re completely useless by the end game.

Do you think it would be better, if the lower tier units would not loose figures after taking damage? And, what units did you use in endgame, only tomes or units from ancient wonders or free cities? How much cultural identity made it to the last turn?

I've noticed that there are tooltips specifically for affinity icons in culture customization screen near the name of the culture that show values such as +2 gold for order, +2 knowleadge for shadow, +2 mana for arcane, +2 knowleadge for shadow, +2 production for materium and I assume other values for other affinities.

How these values work? Are these a flat bonus for each city production?

Questions regarding enchancements and races:
  1. Are there any significant differences between race transformations and unit enchancements in terms of upkeep?
  2. Does enchancement upkeep scale with unit tier?
  3. Do all enchancements and or race transformations require mana upkeep? (i.e. are any of them free or require gold)
  4. Can different race transformations be applied to separate races? i.e Can you have two races with different race transformations?
  5. Do tomes provide more units to a given race?
  6. Does culture unit enchancements work any different from enchancements derived from tomes? (e.g. are they applied per unit class, race , do they have upkeep etc or have something different)
  7. Are there culture specific skills, active abilities notwithstanding, that are exclusive to base culture units?
  8. Are racial units available at any city or are restricted to a city of that race and or to rally of lieges?
  9. Are there ancient wonders (landmark?) exclusive races? Can you apply race transformation to them?
  10. Do heroes get enchancesments outside their skills via having a class or race? i.e. can you apply enchants on them via global enchants?

Questions regarding diplomacy, empire building and player interactions:
  1. Is there tech trading in the game?
  2. Can you get other players tomes by other means (conquest, imperial skills, alliance)?
  3. Can you craft and or trade artifacts?
  4. How does conquest work given the limit on city ownership?
  5. What are the penalties for going over the cap of cities?
  6. Does the cost of settlers increase with each new settler?
  7. Is there a limit on how many vassal can you have?
  8. Do landmarks, city and or sector improvements or the new special resources grant stat improvements for units?
  9. If so, does units that are recruited via rally of lieges and or summons get such bonuses? (for example in Aow: Planetfal you could relocate your capital to a city with bunch of bonuses and they would apply to influence bought units or in AoW3 there were city enchancements that would grant traits to recruits and summons)
  10. Are there any imperial quests analogous to AoW: Planetfal that reward first player to complete them with stuff?
  11. Is there food sharing between cities like in planetfal?

You mean the Governor modifiers? Seems like those are bonuses that scales with amount of affinities points in the respectable affinity pool.
Unless I misunderstood your concern.

Yeah, I'm just not sure how they are applied. Say that you have 1 order affinity - how does it apply to a city? Does governor here means the player, as in the city is being owned by the player? Does it apply to vassals? Or is there a new entity that is a governor, like a hero or something?

P. sure it works like the Oathbound heroes in Planetfall. Your heroes can be attached to a city as its governor and provide effects as long as they're alive and doing that.
