I don’t understand how this can happen when PDX experiences positive growth year after year. They’ve become such a large company. Can’t they just hire more people if manpower is such an issue?

Looks like PDX decided to take this week to piss off its fan base.
Great job on that front, I must say.

That's PDX as a whole, to the devs however, I have nothing to say but a big, wholehearted thank you.
It is a sad day, but I can say with no hesitation that you guys are leaving behind a game you can certainly look back with pride.
The consulship of @Arheo was a golden age for us citizens, but alas the empire has fallen, and now we find ourselves at the beginning of the dark ages.

Can you comment on what project you'll be taking a part in now, or is it still secret?

This is PR spin. Rather than say development is coming to an end, they're saying it is being paused. In the end, unsurprisingly, the economics won the day, this was always going happen if engagement did not increase.

It's about money, the rest is BS.

What a great week for PDS, another epic disaster on EUIV and then they shut down one of their best games, I have to say PDS have lost all my respect as a studio, but I have no problem with the devs etc who do their best while being clearly under-resourced.
They need pr to sell Imperator anew - but that's a tough job.

Love what the game became with 2.0, hell, I even liked it at the launch.

Guess this had to happen. I just wish they gave us one last bow with another major update involving economics and diplomacy.

But, yeah, thanks again for what I think is the best classical era game out there...I'll go and play another 900 hours of it for sure!

I don't think it's a matter can but rather wanting to do it.

I guess this game is not as profitable as the other titles and they decided to focus on more successful game with a larger player base.
Make sense from a business point of view but it's EU:Rome all over again.

sadly in the real world, to hire more manpower =/= to more income and profits, moreover when we are speaking bout a product that to PDS is barely profitable, I am not saying that Imperator is a bad game, in fact, it had become one of my favourites of paradox by the concepts/(mechanics the game own but if we loom at the player base, how many videos the game generate in YT and reviews on comparison to other and older PDS games, it is clear to Paradox what would be more profitable to invest their resources, understandable, but I am not on the boat with that.

Look at their big games right now.

CKIII - In good shape.

Imperator - Murdered.

HOIIV - Arcadey streamlined trash.

Vicky - Small dedicated fan base - future unknown.

Stellaris - A mess.

EUIV - An absolute dumpster fire.

Terrible, terrible news. The game I was the most optimistic for, and looking forward the most for new content was Imperator after 2.0. Why invest so much great time and resources into revamping the game, only to cut back on development. Very disheartening news.

I felt that the only new generation PDS game that really got the immersion right was Imperator, sad that an excellent example of immersion done right is being stunted.

It's quite telling how the character focused game is the one having the best success.
People might not like this but this is the hard truth. People want engaging stories and characters in their games.

For CK3 if by "in good shape" you mean a game for dummies with no depth that can be left to run on max speed in the background. Absolutely.

Sad day. Someday Imperator will revive with number 2.... like vicky 3.
It would take a brave CEO to revive the IR franchise after what happened. More likely we get a 'new' Rome game after a few years with a different foundational take...

I agree with all but CK III. It's a barebones game with 2-3 years of development needed to bring it on par with CK II.

The base game is not bad, don't get me wrong. But it becomes quite repetetive after a few games and it's far too easy to blob or play in general. Strategy games without challenges aren't proper strategy games.

There are currently 29 job adverts listed on our site for the three PDS studios. There is no lack of desire to recruit people, but we can't force people to work for us.

PDS is the fastest growing part of the company in these last twelve months and there is no intention to stop growing it.

Sure, but there's space for GSGs too, you cant be saying the genre is dead and only choose your own adventure books with a GUI slapped on top are viable?
