See this might be a blessing in disguise for modders, as there will be one highly modable game that will not see continuous updates making modding easier.

But will this opportunity be used?

I can't realy state how devastated I'm by this decision.

I bought Paradox-Games and DLC for yours now and defended them when others critizised them. But let's be honest:

EU IV is dead by now, throttled by it's sheer amount of DLCs. Leviathan was the first DLC I didn't bother to buy which seems to be the right decision.

Stellaris is going the same route, I bought Nemesis and played like 5 hours before I got bored. Best part of Stellaris at the moment for me is the Star Trek Mod.

CK3 had an okay start, but for me it's more like a modernized CK 2.5. But I'm waiting for the great new DLC with features that are feeling realy new and add to the overall experience. Not just a streamlined and converted from CK2 (maybe an Empire rework, but I think more likely that will never come)

The sole project that kept me (and my money) invested in those franchises over the last two years was Imperator:Rome. With that gone my interest in the other projects is gone as well. Since I've bought Royal Edition from CK3 maybe the next DLC for that will turn the tide for me, but if decisions within PDX lately have me shown anything than that that's not very likely.

For those of us who had the pleasure of playing this game on Macs up until 1.3 broke it for us - this news is not surprising at all. Karma's a b****! :p I hope Paradox learns that you can't be quite so high-handed when your playerbase is in the triple digits. ;)
I'm on mac and 2.0 runs fine.

Unpopular opinion but I partially blame the gaming community for this decision. I never understand why there are multitudes of more people playing EUIV than IR. IR is better at every subject except the regional variety especially after 2.0 but it never gained enough player base to make it financially stable.

I am so sad because this was, I think, one of best not only PDX games but strategy games in general. Yet it still lacks many fundamental functions for Diplomacy, Vassals, Trade and Tribal Governments. As a wise man once said, we were on the verge of greatness.

I personally don't understand the logic behind calling a game that no longer gets new content "dead". By that logic, all the games that released before the internet was widespread were dead on arrival. The only games that truly "die" are multiplayer games that nobody plays or had its servers shut down. Singleplayer games or games that have a serious singleplayer component are pretty much immortal.

This is not good news, and I am genuinely worried about were Imperator is heading. The game is in a good state now, and it would be a shame if you let it go. So please, consider continuing with Imperator

The team did an amazing job bringing this game back from a rocky start. Y’all should be incredibly proud of yourself. Best wishes in your future projects!

I have no idea how naive or stupid you have to be to believe you can pull shit like this, put your best game on hold for 12 months which will effectively kill it, and then believe that you can just bring it back like nothing happened.

Especially for a game that had to fight so hard to restore/rebuild its image after so much work and so many updates. You threw all of this away with a single move, shitting all over the work of Arheo and his team. Well done.

And on top of that, you believe that this will not reflect on your other games/projects and the company as a whole. This is the slimiest and most spineless move I have seen any of the more well-known companies make in recent times.

There are no words in the English language that can describe how blatantly idiotic this move is.

Dear PDX: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

They have absolutely no intention of reviving this game in 2022. I can't believe how many people can't recognize the corporate-speak for what it is.

If there is no updates, there is little to no new players, hence, less mod enthusiasts active, hence less players. Exceptions to this are few and far between. Not every strategy game becomes 20 times more popular 20 years after release like Heroes of Might and Magic III. Most of them don't.
And Paradox games are niche in itself. Wouldn't you call March of the Eagles or Sengoku pretty much dead at this monent? They both aren't bad, Sengoku is actually good, but both of them are unlikely to attract any new players. To the point that those titles became synonymous with the "that game noone plays".

No. No.

Haven't you heard? The problem is there are no coding people available for hire. I wonder if that's because of a low pay thing?

They solved the pay issue by offshoring EU4 Leviathan development to a country where they could get cheaper developers. Worked out great!

Bean-counters at every corporation believe that "coders" are interchangeable, and thus they can save money by outsourcing the work. I've seen it a million times. The result is always a flaming train wreck.

Not sure how that contributes to anything, people are free to review the game however they wish.

Though the mentality of not recommending a game for any reason other than "is it good or bad to play" seems weird to me.
