"I have said before launch that this is the best game I’ve made, and I stand by it still. 1.0 of Imperator is the best 1.0 we have ever made of a game."

This is just plain deluded.

It is cute how people thank Johan for interacting with the community. He is not a mod developer. He is certainly paid very handsomely. Respect is one thing but this servile attitude is somewhat pathetic. It is Sunday, true, but I believe at this point these guys are in full crisis mode. Maybe they even learn something.
For example that a new base game should be better than an old (almost) finished game like EUIV.
Is the critique harsh? Maybe, but that is just how it is.

And why do you get tirany for telling your governors to change policies? It's kinda their job to obey the ruler... Bribes should cost money LOOL
That's why
You aren't asking them nicely, you're forcing them to
Doing it once or twice isn't a problem, but if you do it as well as other tyranicall actions, then you'll get a problem

Well, it Is the best base so far. I will give them that. Just... Eh, shallow. Though shallow is the wrong word maybe. Not complex enough? Ya... Shallow...

Thank you Johan for sharing your thoughts.

The PDS community is a peculiar beast to deal with. Somehow it encompasses the best and the worst of human societies! I admire the PDS devs for dealing with it the way they do, as indeed they expose themselves quite directly compared to other devs.

I'd say that I:R is a good synthesis of many things learned before; but the design of making it a sequel to EU:Rome is maybe what limited the design phase. There could have been a bolder design more inspired by specificities of the time period and less by legacy of the studio. Ex.: religions. Yes, as Johan stated, they played less important a role in dividing the realms. Yet, when you read historical accounts, gods were everywhere and present in all decisions. Rather than a property dividing pops as in CK2 and EU IV, could one imagine a wholly different system?

Anyway the roadmap sounds promising. I hope I:R develops more and more unique gameplay features deeply rooted in the period's specificities. In fact I'll try to provide my contributions in the suggestion sub-forum :)

True.

The original vision for Imperator was that religion should not be as important, so we did not design features for it to make the different religions unique.
I'm curious, and not to be disparaging by any means, what was the vision for making different playable states feel different? You have cultural groups, which I suppose might be the answer, but I'm curious if there were any other features you feel provided the level of differentiation many of the posters here are looking for.

That said, also, despite my own criticism of I:R in the past, I hope to make it known that it has never been meant as a criticism of Paradox's ability. Quite the contrary, really. I've said it before and I shall say it again: Paradox Interactive remains my favorite gaming company, especially because of how readily you take and consider feedback. It's truly appreciated.

The depth of Imperator's puddle is in the millimeters.

Summing up my previous post, characters and pops should have their own desires that affect how you run the state. Now this happens too rarely with characters, and not at all with pops.

But, why though? Let's take Egpyt for example. A Greek Hellenic power (Alexander) conquered lots and lots of land that is Egyptian and Kemetic. Understandably, they get the option to either stay hellenic and greek, do syncretism, or convert to their culture and religion.
It makes sense, they suddenly had lots of people following a different religion, practising different customs.

So, if I play a druidic tribe, and I decide to migrate to Egypt for whatever reason, I end up with the same problem. I suddenly have lots of people under my rule that don't worship my gods, that don't pracise my customs.
Why do I not get the ability to adopt their customs and religion?
Why is it that a nation like Parthia, which starts greek hellenic can not adopt zoroastrianism and persian culture?

This honestly makes no sense, this is soemthing that should have been in the base game, and that there aren't even plans to add this honenstly baffles me.

Religion changes will be talked about tomorrow.

I've enjoyed the game so far. (I've not played any previous games that have been mentioned here.) Visually, great. All the various map views, great.

I've only played tribes in Spain. And here I find my problems.

1. I may be successful and grab some neighbouring land in the first year or two. This requires me building an army of my own to support the clan chiefs. THIS brings me to a point where I am sitting close to being in the negative for income. (I've increased tax rates, chosen $$ improving inventions, etc.) At this point I can see no way to improve income and I have nowhere to look to find out options. Please provide a detailed manual/in-game library for us newbies to your games. Suggestions on what to do, or options, explaining how each thing in the game works. A game called Aggressors: Rome was similar but had such a detailed library a player could go to.

2. It seems like the tribes are there as entities, but really not balanced for play. After a few years I hit a point where my neighbours are all stronger (with alliances) than I can ever hope to compare to. Basically my game is over. It may be I just don't know my options, but there should be somewhere to find out. Is the game designed to be played by the big 5 or whatever only? Can I start out as a tiny tribe in Spain and conquer all?

3. As that tribe in Spain, I have no clue how to increase my populations beyond sitting for year after year doing nothing. Do I really have to just let 50+ game years roll by? Will my economy and income improve?

4. Let me do something that helps me improve the rate of gather for all the mana types. Why do I have to sit and watch game turns go by just to hit 200 oratory to be able to click a cause for war? Could that somehow be a focus of mine and increase at a faster rate? Why is it there at all? So that I can't just declare a war after a previous one? Why not?

5. Give me other ways of keeping clan chiefs happy. I have no gold to pay them with. I can't invade anyone so no triumphs. I don't even know what Free Hands does because I can't look it up anywhere.

6. I like the various actions I might take in regards to other nations. That's been interesting. It got tedious, once I had a couple allies, and I could not declare a war because of no oratory power (or which ever one you use for that). Just sitting there hoping the enemy declared against me was silly. Maybe there were things I could do, but I didn't know the options and their effects.

ver hear the same 3 songs. None of the many others in the soundtrack get played, and I've played and watched a lot. This is completely regardless of deluxe/base/soundtrack dlc, makes no difference. Could you please take a look to see what's causing this?

Thats not how it should be.

In terms of music the error resides in the fact that three tracks only play on the main menu, five tracks only during peace, and nine for only war. Adding them all together to play anytime it would be better....

I have played (and watched on stream and youtube) considerably more than the main menu, and there is currently only one playing in the menu, two in peace (one is same as menu) and one during wartime. Please do check out the soundtrack and find me one, just one, example of a gameplay video in which more songs from the soundtrack played. This is not hyperbole or a misunderstanding or anything, I'm just a big music fan and able to recognize different melodies.

"I have said before launch that this is the best game I’ve made, and I stand by it still. 1.0 of Imperator is the best 1.0 we have ever made of a game."

Which one was better at 1.0?

I must say I kinda dislike "fixing" Imperator making it a clone of Europe Universalis. Like you said Johan, religion should not be as important as it is in EU4. I would have not included religion at all in this game. What is the point if everyone is a polytheist that accept other gods as versions of their own? Only Jews deserve some representation IMO, and that would be made with other mechanics/modifiers.

That said, the game have religions and anachronic "conversions". And now it will have bonuses like in EU4? I think this game should have their own personality, and don't look at Rome 1 or EU4 more than necessary.

Which is a bit awkward, considering its not a sequel to eu4.
That may very well be the case, but people are still going to make that comparison before they make the comparison to EU: Rome.
