Thank you all for following this part of the AAR. On to
Part Three!
To celebrate our venturing into Victoria 2, a sight of the special map I had created of the Assyrian Federal Republic in 1817. Thanks to Luk_Zloty on Reddit for the artwork!
Bravo! Eagerly awaiting part III!
And btw, that two term limit was godsent.
I'll see you along for the next part! After two 20 year + reigning Viziers, the need for some limit on the length of time someone could hold the post was becoming very clear.
And so we have reached the end of the EU4 segment. What a ride, looking forward to the Victoria 2 segment.
Good thing we averted another personalist dictatorship in the end, tho with Assyria effectively being a de-facto one party state (although the moderates seem to be in the process of breaking up into different parties), democracy still has a ways to go before it can truly thrive.
I'm glad you've enjoyed the story so far

. Indeed, it makes a lot of sense to me that what is still a pretty primitive country all things considered wouldn't immediately become functioning democracy with regular alterations in power. We shall see if this new century brings Assyria up with it or presents a field of new sorrows.
We seem to have divided quite nicely into the parties demanded by Victoria II's system. Surely there will be no shortage of interesting affairs as we move into the next century, so full steam ahead!
Indeed, we are neatly boxed up into the three starter parties for Victoria 2. We start the game as a democracy (even though we are still Unciv), but due to the bugginess of the converter in the early period it takes a little while for the parties to actually become effective (in game there was actually no governing party until the mid-1820s). After that our in story election results will mirror the real in game results.
Hopefully term limits on Majlis or age limits to bring the elections to the people and not to career politicians. Congratulations on another successful chapter in Assyria's history. Please provide the link when the Vicky chapter begins. Thank you very much.
We can be sure that as the dominant party for so long, the Moderates will be full to the seems with special interests, career-seekers and all manner of hangers on. Whether that sort of thing can be ironed out of the system and cleaned up in a more modern age will be a question for the next generation.
EU4 ended as Assyria plunges headfirst into a changing world. Dictatorship was averted, and the Moderates no longer seem so secure in their power, but in Victoria they'll have to face the issues of slavery, growing power of the west, political agitation inspired by the Greek assassin, colonial trouble and ethnic/religious sectarianism in Egypt. I'll eagerly await part III to see how Assyria develops!
Victoria 2 is actually well suited to exploring many of Assyria's problems - religious and ethnic divides, the slave issue (even with neat slave and free state divisions), the challenges of an emerging democracy and of course sweeping economic change. Roll on up for the next stage!
As I'm in the (admittedly long) process of doing a grand campaign conversion from EU4 to V2 myself, the question of where the civilized tags start and end is a hard one. I hope at least that, seeing as Assyria has proven itself a competent power and very much intertwined in the Mediteranean world and having undergone the same political devellopments Europe has, that she's nicely along the path of in-game westernization already
We start the Victoria 2 portion as a partially westernised country. If I remember the converter actually wanted to make us 80% Westernised and I rolled it back to 60% to make it a little bit more challenging while feeling right in universe. Being close to westernisation but not quite there felt right to me.
In the conversion, most of the Middle East and Indian are similar states of partial westernisation, the Far East somewhat further behind and Africa at the bottom. The one area that probably didn't have the right balance were the Fatimids - who were pretty powerful at the end of EU4, but come out here with barely any reforms at all as they were mainly based in Africa.
Vic2, huh? Looking forward to it!
I hope you enjoy the next part!
Petuel overreached, and now democracy is returning... I can still see ways to bypass the two-term limit, though...
It looks like the Moderates are splitting, and the Ishtarians are taking over. I wonder if some factions of the Moderates will try to court the Conservatives in future elections?
All questions and more will be revealed in the updates to come!
Also, now that it's basically done, I'll admit that the title reminded me of F:NV
Haha, its a long long time since I played F:NV!
