Install is stop when it reached 11% with message that
'Bryhn_asbj?n_nor.bmp' file has problem.

Please help me.I had experianced about "france_rhone_alpes"file on "Victoria".
I solved that. But now it is totally different.First,Victoria's intalling process was ok and still it is ok. But 'HOI Platinum pack's install is failing because failing read the symbol on "Bryhn_asbj?n_nor.bmp"

I tried to edit name in the 'data1.hdr' file after the hole CD copying to HDD.
But set up was failing. Also I changed national setting to ENGLISH(US).But setup is not access with message that mapping(??) problem.

I have not idea.My pack become the waste?

Try English(UK)

I tried it as well as uncheck code page. But Setup was not start from first moment due to mapping is not occur(I don't know about technical point about XP.)
I use XP korean version. So it would effect on setup process when I changed non-unicode support korean to English US or UK and then doing set up.
So It drives me crazy......

Shortly,When I changed non-unicode support to English US or UK (Also unchecking any codepage's option) and then doing set up , Set up process is not start with error message about Mapping.
If I change language setting to default(korean) , setup process is start but it is stop when installing "bryhn_asbj?n_nor.bmp" file anyway.
So,After copying all flies in CD to HDD , I tried to edit "data1.hdr" file but after that,Set up occur error.

I need help from the master of this kind. Please help me.Even "Victoria" was succeed to install.(Still It is OK about Install.)

Well what happened?

Still it has same error that I mentioned(Mapping Error after switching non-unicode and regional setting to English US or UK) even though I reinstalled install shield that you advised.
I think Mapping error is about XP's security.I heard that XP stops the set up process when the program is strange, risky or other security cause.

Make sure you have turned all your Virus protection off.

Try Scandinavian or French.

I changed non-unicode supporting and regional setting to french or scandinavian(Sweden). But when I tried to set up, I still receive message about mapping error that I mentioned.

Tricky one. I guess the key is the latter part of that error message, not the first part. Am not sure about this but here goes.
The mapping could fail because of untimely renaming of computer/accounts names or perhaps the inability of some software to recognise characters in those names.

How does your account name (login name) in Windows look like and have you tried installing the game using another, new account name?

If you haven't, try creating a local admin account named "ADAM" and also "looking" like "ADAM".
Could be that your initial language-/character sets preferences when you created your default account causes trouble to some processes such as the this installations process. Changing preferences only is likely not enough, so trying creating a new account (with local admin rights) is worth to try. Couldn't hurt.

The root cause may still be in install shield, but I would try a new account as a workaround anyway. Could be something with MUI that triggers the problem...

The problem is with the particular file name:

'Bryhn_asbj?n_nor.bmp'

It contains a question mark, and that is not an allowed character to be used in a filename. It has special meaning, just as the '*' or the '\'.

I can't tell, however, if this error is caused internally within Install Shield, if the cabinet file itself contains an error, or if it's caused by an invalid character with respect to the current locale.

Given the fact that the Windows error mentions 'mapping error', my bet would be on the latter. The filename probably contains a Unicode character on the position of the questio mark, that is not available in the current locale setting.

The situation became different.

For following advise, I created new account named ADAM.And on that account,I changed non-unicode supporting and regional setting to English US with unchecking code-page about asian language.

So,at last set up seemed to be workable.

But on 1% proceed , I had got new error message and return to windows main screen.
That message is this ; 'The file name, directory name,or volum label syntax is incorrect.'

What is need for me?

Yes, I iterpeted that that was the inital problem, but after the system setting was changed by the user the "Set up process is not start with error message about Mapping.". As I read that the set up process doesn't start at all now and never reach that specific file.
If one solve this startup problem, the intial problem may be worked around. Or so I guess... Anything working is good, but if there are any simpler answer that would be better; I would just be glad.

I couldn't find that error message on the link Castellon provided, only a part of it.
Hints on the mapping part of the error message could be found here for example:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329816
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281454

Speaking of guessing, is that a Norwegian name? The 'nor' would be Norwegian... Would almost fit with an o with a slash over it.

I must re-mention about new situation.
The situation is changed.Due to good advise from 'Most Harmless' I solved the mapping problem.
But new error is found. That is totally new problem ,I think.
The error message is like this ; " The file name, directory name,or volum label syntax is incorrect."
That error occured when just set up process is start about 1~2%.

On 1% (one percent) that first file with the norwegian name wouldn't be the issue.

How exactly have you filled in the directory names in the HOI install setup dialogue? I don't know how this could be a problem, but it could be good to get some more facts.

Have you a label on the harddisk volume you are installing to? Try removing it or changing it to something really plain (as "ADAM" for the account...). Maybe Install Shield has problems with the label or the computer name as it may look at these per default.

C:\Games\Paradox Entertainment\Hearts of Iron
It is my directory to try installing but it is not point because the situation is same after trying other directory such as c:\program files\.... or simply c:\Pardox...

Also My harddisk seems have a label.(What is the label exactly?)Anway I edited the harddisk name from 'DSK1_VOL1' to 'hard disk'. at the "My Computer". But the situation is same.

When the language setting back to korean , Setup is work well until 11% at the problematic files.

What is the problem?Maybe CD seems right.

I have the feeling that to narrow down the problem real quick, one should reproduce your situation with Korean Windows XP and Platinum Hoi.
Unfortunately I don't have neither.

But I have support for east asia installed in my XP and compared how that file looked like from different views using my standard Swedish setting and the Korean setting. Got some strange result when listing that file with the Korean unicode setting... Not sure to what make of it.
Actually I have seen two files;
one dated 2003-07-04 19:14, with the o with slash over,
one dated 2003-07-04 18:14 with some unknown (Korean?) sign inserted in the file name instead of the o with a slash over.

When I look at the files using my own Swedish default I list the 18:14 with a c with a bar over it, instead of an o with a slash over.

I don't see any difference in the file names when I change from Korean to Swedish setting aside from this (and I am talking about the non-unicode application support setting in the Advance tab). That is interesting.

I took a quick look at some Swedish and Norwegian bmp:s, but could see anything like this on them. One other file had a c with a bar over it (s¢rensen_per_den.bmp) but that guy had only one file, not two.

Comments anyone?
Could this be looking exactly the same in the Platinum?
