Just the last few weeks I have assisted 3 new players to enter our community.

If you had any stats to substantiate your claims I would be inclined to agree, but it is as usual: just general statements as if you were all gods and knows everything.

To see people like Hive add to the debate is quite hilarious. You Hive surely have a good view of the frequency of coming and going of players :p

You are all pathetic. :D

Gamlasemlan, I like your attitude. And wellcome to Animal Farm! :)

John as usual has a good point and excels in formulating it in a polite way, in sharp contrast to myself. ;)

Long live EU2!

sharp contrast indeed... ;)
but i can't denied that i agree with you, for now eu2 is alive and kicking...

Daniel A is almost the Alpha and the Omega of EU2MP.

there're many variables. I think the way we set games aren't attractive for newcomers anymore and it's just one of many reasons. The Quitting factor, low subs pool, many campaigns but little gaming week by week, high quality of players that intimidates newbies a lot, "GM's dictatorship" instead of the originals Organizers, The Boring factor after playing a lot, etc

Eu2 keeps being a wonderful game though.

My dear Balinus, if you read it once more you will se that I as usual am focussing on critisising them who believes they know how it is and who do not put forward any evidence. I made very few statements of facts myself, well apart from the "pathetic part" ;)

Well, this means that -although EU2MP community is not dying I guess- definitely is another one and all old people already left. After all, Daniel A came to MP after a long time (and I still remember the threads when people said to Daniel to play MP and stop proposing strange strategies)

Actually, a lot of the old vets are still around... either lurking or playing. Most aren't as active as they were once upon a time, but EU2 is the kind of game that puts its hooks in hard and deep. You can never quite leave it behind.

Ah, Djeheuty... one of my favorite EU2 MPers. I hope you plan on playing EU3 MP, when the time comes? :)

Hive get started on that AOI mod with Kasperus' map instead of spamming more posts. Just because you are close to the magic 10.000 posts :D

Well Ive been interested in getting into EU2 MP for a while but it seems to me there are no GMT-evening games on? Could anyone point me to the contrary because I would like to play a bit with decent enemies, I dont expect Id be much of a challenge but Id show up and at least give a decent crack at it.

most games are either in cet(gmt+1) or est (gmt-5)
think you should look for the cet games

Green Beret,

There are an abundance of CET games. Just now all I play in are full but I am quite sure not all CET campaigns are. Look around in the game threads. It is a good idea to make a post in each of the game threads you are interested in, telling you want to play. The GM will then contact you when he needs a player, perm or sub. The day and time of the game you will find in post 1 of each thread.

And get ICQ, it is a must. And then put the ICQ number in your signature, like myself and many other. That makes it easy for anyone who wants to contact you.

Wellcome to the community Green Beret! :)

Seriously though, a community is only dying if no new players enter it.

As it is now, there are still people joining it, with at least an average of 1 per week. Not all of them stick here, but still.

It is less crowded than back then in 2003....the golden years. If EU3 wouldn't come, I dare to say this community would at least last for another two-three years.

community exists and will exist. I even suprised that Russian community got renaissance after dying in 2004-2005 - now 3 games per week is the usual rate.

As to EU3, i`m always afraid it can have too much open modificators or too predicted like HoI or Victoria, and it can kill MP the way we like eu2mp.

EU2 MP unique dynamic is because two things - random battles and random trade.

I was talking about this with Bocaj last night, and we pretty much agree that Elvis has left the building here, or is leaving soon. The evidence is plain for all to see; games having trouble filling rosters, most games only majors played, vets quitting mid-session because they game is just not worth it anymore, smaller number of games with smaller numbers of players. There are a few great games running now, but it ain't how it used to be. Without the new maps it'd probably be even quieter.

I've been hoping to get in on a new game with some of the old players I've never had a chance to play with, and the best of the new; perhaps a finale for eu2 mp for me before the EU3 beta. I was thinking that to accomodate the most players possible, we could run it on a random tax/mp scenario on Kasperus' map and have people start around the world. The best day would probably be Sunday, and DU is finishing up soon.

Thoughts? Commiseration? Contradiction?
How long have you played really?
Over the past year, i will even claim that the number of games have increased.

Bocaj is just a silly old man, dont listen to him :).
Really, i think its pretty godo that the vets leave and new ones join, the vets just get so boring and self-centered after too many games.

Bah, many new people here.

I still remember reading the MGC3 you could host massive armies with a stalinist super-state, where was the balance then? Or massive conversions of heathens to Catholics by Spain to anger other players.

I still remember a time when there was one or two serious campaigns if at all. MGC4 and DEG, those weren´t many games, not like today, everything has it easy.

I still remember me being a wet newbie babysitted by Mowers through MGC4 as England and playing with guys like Maur, Waldo and getting my ass wiped by them all the time.

I still remember when you had 6 merchants on monopoly in a CoT and it never disappeared, when colonies in the Caribean remained french eternally although England owned them from 1510 onwards.

I still remember when Hive was just as green as many behind the ears and asked me to sub a nation for him once, nearly wetting himself when asking me.

I still remember when Johan brought the 24 player card into games. Jesus, in the early days we had 8 slots and we were HAPPY! if we filled them.

I still remember the Tsunami feeling that embraced so many and brought so many new people to Eu2 MP and the community to its peak.

You guys know nothing, there were much worse times.

[old man mode off]

With that useless stuff being said, I think that there is still much happening in here. And when Eu3 comes it will be time to move on. So be happy and enjoy the last days here.

Seriously, i always thought you would backstab me :D.
And by the way, sorry for the totally pointless invasion of North America.
