Joining games using IP doesn't work

It's odd, too. I type in my friend's IP, and I hit 'Join'. Nothing happens. Even the animation of clicking plays. I find this odd, and type in the IP differently, without dots, spaces, that sort of thing. The thing is, whenever I type it inappropriately, it tells me it's the wrong IP and stuff, but when I do it correct, nothing happens. Have I made a mistake somewhere? Should I make a screencap?
Note: Clicking "Host" does the exact same thing. Animation, but nothing else.

..Oh..ah..you need to open ports before anything would happen? I was waiting to see if the error..would pop..up..
I..feel..stupid now..
Going to go ahead and open those ports..in shame..

there's a bug witch i call "the space bug" whenu have typed in the Ip u want to connect to Eu2 leaves a space behind the ip witch makes the game freeze fro maybe 2-5 min and after that telling it's an invalid ip. all u have to do is just to press delete after u typed ur IP and u should delete the space behind it.

What ports did you open in your router? Do you have your XP firewall on? (if you have XP that is). Do you have some antivirus working?

Ah, sorry. I opened the port range 2300-2400, and I turn off all my firewalls and antiviruses beforehand. Is the problem that I'm Port Forwarding instead of Port Triggering?

Do this again but change the port range to 47624, and you'll be set. Save the settings and have fun with HoI or EU2 (This works for both.)

You are correct - its 2300-2400. But also, 47624.

Ah, touche`, but as it turns out, I was merely foolish enough to forget 47624 when I listed it; it, too, is port forwarded.

The problem persists; I click the button, but very literally nothing happens, other than the button indenting like all the buttons do when you click them.

If you configured your router adequately, you have no firewall, no antivirus, nothing that could affect your conection, then, i really dont know what is the problem.

Did it occur that the problem could be from the part of your friend, and not from yours?

No, because as I stated, when I hit the Host button, the same thing happens. The button clicks down, but the game does nothing. Is it because I port forwarded instead of port triggered? They seem to have different results.

Well, then something fishy going on here. If you cant join games is one thing, but if you cant even click the host button is a totaly diferent thing.

One should be able to host his own games, even if other people cant join in. I am sorry but i fear i cannot help you, if such is your case.

Oh, it also appears that when I attempt to log into a channel on any paradox game, the client freezes, and I have to close it with the task manager. Could the problems be related?
