next game (probably next patch at the rate the first one is going) i'm going to try giving the canary islands to Asturias, to see if they will colonize the ivory coast for me. Basic idea is at diplotech 7, ~third war with castile, transfer occupation of Canaries to Asturias. Second war with Mali/Jolof, transfer occupation of Traza to Asturias. Should be in range to colonize the Ivory coast then in time for their 4th national idea. They should be able to core it at diplotech 7, and they get a free colonist as their 4th idea.
Interesting idea, next GB game I want to keep vassal dutch and scotland so i can feed them respective American CN, maybe even go so far as to federate Australia too.
Issue would be giving france Canada Colonial land easily in a peace deal
They should pull trade into iberia, which is nice.... it always makes me mad how after I put forth the effort to subdue all of asia, france/britain can conjure up 10% trade power in the ivory coast for a sweet 60 florin payoff.
The TC merchant for ivory coast i find easiest to get

This isn't needed for Asturias. If you release them with at least admin tech 5, they will start with exploration ideas and then they can take expansion ideas naturally. And if they get exploration idea 3 and dip tech 7, they will be able to reach enough provinces to colonize.

asturias seems like the ideal vassal to feed africa to; +1 missionary, +2 missionary strength, +10% goods produced, -15% province warscore cost (which you can gimmick by transfering occupation).

Maybe you need to own the province with the church/workshop yourself, but for the count Portugal's West Indies sure counts.
That's interesting. I only tested it with Havanna. So country_or_non_sovereign_subject_holds only counts direct subjects, but
num_of_provinces_owned_or_owned_by_non_sovereign_subjects_with counts indirect subjects(even colonial nations of a vassals of a junior partner seem to count)
