Right, I think it's my graphics card as it's only 512MB (Intel HD Graphics 3000).

My spec:
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Software OS X 10.9.2

I reinstalled CKII just to try out the new map, got 3 freezes in under 1 hour, wiped it away. It used to freeze alright, but this now is a joke

The new map, plus the accumulation of DLCs, has caused the game memory problems on Windows 32bit as well as Mac. If you have a video card with under 1gb of memory on it, then I would expect it to play poorly or not at all since 2.1.2 , I'm sorry.

It's still a lottery for me. I had a hard freeze after 8 minutes yesterday post-patch install, but once I plugged in the mains power and raised my Macbook Pro off a flat surface to disipate the heat (I'm still running on that theory) I didn't have any crashes and played for about 2 hours.

Yeah, I imagined it had to do with the extended map. DLCs are not the issue here as I only have the EUIV converter (got CKII with the EUIV pre-order).
The only thing I really don't get is why it is absolutely flawless till it kills the entire system. I mean - I tried to run it in windowed mode cause I told myself, "well, the mouse arrow still moves alright, so if I was able force quit it when the game freezes, at least I won't have to reboot the laptop". But no joy, when it freezes the entire system is gone I can't click anything even in windowed mode, just move around the arrow. I don't know anything about software and hardware, but I really don't understand what the hell is going on there, as in, I would expect lag leading up to the freeze, or at least a complete freeze where the music stops and the arrow stays still? Mysteries of computer science.

Wow, this thread again! :)
I think I'll just post here some facts I've collected over time about this issue, so people avoid wasting time:

1. The game freezes at random, but it _will_ freeze eventually, on macs with Intel HD Graphics 3000 (NVidia and AMD suffer from other issues but not this very specific freeze)
2. This happens since the first version of CK2 that was able to run on Intel Graphics chipset (earlier versions did not start at all) so it's not related to new DLCs or patches
3. No OS X update until now has solved/improved the situation (some people said it was getting better with 10.8 or 10.9 only to come back to this thread and say: "it's freezing again"... I suspect it's all related to the randomness of the freezes)
3. The bug is not related to overheating
4. Playing in windowed mode as opposed to fullscreen is not useful, your mac will still freeze
5. PI knows about this bug
6. AFAIK they are not working on solving the issue, I can't even find a bug report about this actually...
7. The system requirements on Steam for Mac and Linux versions do not mention Intel Graphics chipset, only NVidia and AMD. Later they did add "1024MB graphics memory required" essentially cutting off every mac with Intel HD 3000. Of course sysreqs are totally inaccurate (game runs ok but a bit slow on Intel HD 3000 under Linux for instance)

So have fun playing CKII but not on your macbook air/pro with an Intel HD 3000 video card!

We certainly had other people report overheating issues causing this for them too. Some people however took me saying that as "you're blaming the hardware and try to pretend there's nothing wrong with the game" By no means am I saying that's the case for everyone, but it clearly is for some.

Just to know, and in case, resign: is someone taking care of this issue? :(

Not sure which issue you mean. Overheating is a clear hardware problem, and supporting a video card with less video memory than the game's published minimum is not going to be something the developers are going to spend any more time on, so far as I know.

That's fair Andrew, and I'm now aware that my hardware comes in under-spec (so I'm not going to play the "you're just shifting the blame" card), but I'm just reporting my issue despite that fact in case someone is in the same position as me and comes here to the forums looking for a solution (as I did).

If the way I'm working around it can help someone get their game working, then it's worth sharing imo. I know I haven't fixed the problem, and I doubt it'll ever go away, but I am able to play.

Ok, thank you: I thought there was a problem of overheating for some user, but some kind of bug too for others ('the issue' i mentioned).
When I bought the game I was aware of the risk, so I'm not complaining with Paradox: I had fun playing CK II for months until the freeze problem, and i still manage to play via bootcamp every now and then (it's getting harder and harder, though).
