I just pick up the old gods for good sport.
Do us mac people still get the freeze of doom while playing? Has it been fixed yet? Its so many patches since this problem was first reported.

I seem to be having the same issues as most people on this thread. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.4 with an Intel i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, and the Intel HD 3000 graphics card everyone seems to be having problems with. CKII runs fine for about 30-45 minutes, but then at some random point it freezes. When it freezes the music still plays and I can move the cursor around, but I cannot click on anything or close out of CKII. I am then forced to shut down the Mac by holding down the power button. This is really frustrating as it makes the game practically unplayable. I hope the devs are working on this as it seems to be a major issue for quite a few people, but after reading through this thread I realize that it might (unfortunately) be on Apple's end. If that is the case and there is nothing Paradox can/will do, I'm afraid this might never be fixed.

It's hard to say. The game's published requirements don't even mention any Intel video cards at all, so I can't definitively say it's supposed to work or not. But then the 3000/4000 didn't run the game at all until a later patch, 1.06 IIRC, meaning Paradox did try to make it work back then. Then again people who upgrade from OS X 10.6 to 10.8 see some definite improvement, indicating Apple's drivers were part of the problem at that point.

Sorry I don't have anything more definitive for you.

CK2 used to work perfectly for me on my 2010 Macbook Pro but recently its been freezing every few hours, the most recent freeze came after about 45 mins of play time. If you forget to save then too bad all progress you made is lost. Its really really frustrating. Is this even being worked on?

Just got back from visiting Europe and really felt like playing some CK2. I had kinda tucked it away before when it kept freezing on my Intel 3000 2011 MBP, and it seems like that issue still hasn't gotten fixed. I guess me playing will have to wait until I get a new Macbook with a real graphics card, or find a way to play my PC in the bedroom.

I have this problem, but on an late 2012 iMac with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card, 2.7 GHz processor and 8GB of ram. I can't get more than 20 minutes gameplay before it completely freezes, requiring a force quit. I hope it gets fixed soon, mainly for the new dlc

Well it seems to depend on the OS version:
(driver improvements done by Apple)
To quote AndrewT from above post

So mentioning which one you got could help or at least be of interest.

I'm running 10.8.5 (latest)...
Then it would appear your problem has a different cause, as this thread is mainly about Intel video card Macs. Try running the Apple Hardware test
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

and you might check on temperatures too, please.

I ran a hardware test, it reported that there were no problems. My iMac is less than two months old. There didn't seem to be a way to check the temperature as well. Also today I updated to OS X Mavericks, and was able to play about 45 minutes (more than usual) before CK2 completely crashed, but this time I was unable to force quit, so I had turn off and on again.

I use iStat Pro, but there are numerous free utilities out there to monitor your Mac's temps.

Well I can't really get the temperature as most of the time the game crashes it freezes the system. It certainly doesn't feel hot to touch though.
You say above you can get up to 20 minutes play before it crashes. So run the game in Windowed mode (edit settings.txt in Documents CK2 folder) and alt-tab out of the game every 5 minutes or so and record the temps.

Does anyone have any updates on this issue?

Does it help running the game in boot camp or upgrading to OS Mavericks? Withe the new DLC coming out I thought of firing up the game again. But disappointed so many times...

I think the strangest thing is, that Amnesia DD, EU III, Dear Esther caused no problem. I upgraded to SSD, first session was amazingly 3h (I could not stop when the game actually kept going..) but again the freezes happen after 20-40 min of game.

I'm running CK2 on Mavericks and am sad to report that I am continually the same issue with a 'hard freeze'. It seems to be completely random, sometimes I can play for hours with no trouble, sometimes it freezes when I'm selecting a character to play. As the rest of you, I can only describe it as a 'freeze' because I can still move the mouse and hear the game's music, I just can't interact with anything, not within the game or the operating system. The only option is to hold the power button down and restart.

Interestingly, my wife's Mac, an older model, is running Mountain Lion and she hasn't had a single issue.

I've had some success keeping the freeze at bay by trying to keep the vents clear as it does get very hot (but then all games seem to on Macs), and I've tried to elevate it off the desk surface to allow heat to dissipate better, but I do still get these crippling freezes.

Boot camp seems like a work around, but if I wanted a Windows machine I'd have bought a PC. It was horribly laggy when I tried to run it in VMWare (virtual desktop for Windows 7), so I wouldn't recommend that.

I might try upgrading my RAM, but I'm at work at the moment so can't post my specs. I'll edit this when I get home to give my Mac's details.
