Ah, nice pictures. :) I'd like to point out, though, that traits are pretty complicated to use. Since characters get traits randomly, many Roman, Carthaginian and Greek characters would turn up being Pharisees, Saducees etc. You'd have to use events to remove these traits from foreign characters, resulting in event spam for people playing other nations than the Judean ones. Anyway, I have a suggestion: Use minor titles instead. They're entirely customisable and have nice icons, too.

Since no one has commented on this map, there is 24 hours until this map is the one I am going to use. If you feel that the map could be improved, please comment/suggest/criticize. Otherwise, I will assume that everyone likes this map, and will begin working on implementing it. I am not trying to be rude, but I need to work at a steady pace if this will ever get done. So please, comment. To all who comment: thank you :).

I still think Samaria should go as far as The Sea of Galilee and should separate Galilee province from Dekapolis. Also, may I ask why you favoured 1 north east province instead of two?? I was thinking that would prevent an easy envelopment of the Galilee Sea by the Seleukids from the north.. I also intended to protect Jericho from invasion via Coele Syria by having it west of both Dekapolis and Perea. I was just thinking strategically here, not being offensive! :)

Also, could you discuss the change with the former Strato's Tower/Jaffa/Ashkelon Provinces?? I don't quite get the logic there either...

Thanks :)

I am going to change the map around Jericho and samaria per your recomendations, along with the north east. I changed Ashkelon province, as historically, it is somewhat further south. The reason it is not very wide, as that I needed as least 1 province under Judean control at the start, so I kept that province you used for Ashkelon, I tried to make it relatively the same size, but it looked quite odd jutting out into Judea, so I made it the same width as the other coastal provinces. Anyway though, I included Ashkelon as it was the only part of Paleistine never conquered by Judea. By the way, I am working off of this map:

hasmoneeserijk1.png

Which shows Hasmonean Judea before the roman conquest.

The new map will be realesed tonight.

How are the titles going to be allocated ? By culture ?

I was trying to get a titles to fire for characters born in a certian province yesterday but it would not work (birth_province) from the title.

If it is possible to allocate them by religon, then by that; if not, I will try to allocate them by culture.

I understand what you are saying, but the biggest issue is, and I'm sure you'll agree, is that it is somewhat difficult to make a 'one size fits all' map. At the start of the game, Jericho for exmaple, would've been rather important, by the game's end, Jericho was just another village in the vast Roman Empire, whos importance was greatly overshadowed by larger and more important cities like Tiberias, Sepphoris, Caesarea (Phillipi & Maritima) and Jerusalem.. Also, game engine limitations and map size must also be considered, and since too, EUIII is a bit like Risk in that armies move and occupy territory from province to province (In comparison to say Total War or Civ where cities are controlled), movement of troops and strategic depth/movement is another very important consideration. :)

Dev diary #4 - Map version #4

Today, I post what I hope will be the final version of the province map ;). Ok, probably not, but were one step closer at least. So, without more talking about this map, here it is, Map version #4, created from a mixture of Carroarmatto-P40's map, and mine:

Please comment on it, I need comments within 24 hours, or this is the map I will use. Along with it is a revised Historical setup for the Maccabean Revolt:

maccabeanrevolt2.jpg

Blue-Judea

Gray-Green-Judea occupied by Seleucid Empire

Light Green-Seleucid Empire

Bright Green-Samaritans

Green-Land of Zeno Cotulas, Autocrat of Philadelphia.

Brown-Nabatea

Purple-Egypt

Red-Unkonwn/Disputed/To be determined

Also, as I am working with Judea, I am getting the impression that syria province should be split up. Thoughts?

Please comment on all.

In regards to that first map (for you're last post), I would combine the Jerusalem province (which I assume is the darkish blue one right in the middle of Judea) with the bronzy/brown one next to it... As was said earlier, need to keep in mind the size of provinces in relation to the rest of the map. I'd try and make Jaffa/Ashkelon/Gaza much the same size, but being costal you could probably get away with making them a little smaller.. If I were you I'd spend a bit of time to make sure the boarders are neat and in good order. Also, up on the north-eastern part of the Sea of Galilee, I'd make sure Iturea touches the Sea of Galilee, in order to separate Galilee province from Batanea/Bashan, much like what you did with Samaria. One last thing, in regards to that province next to Jerusalem... If you where to include it, I would make Jerusalem a bit wider and place Israel province north of it, and since you've moved Askelon more to the coast, you could make Israel wider as well, in order to keep the provinces a decent size, I would move Samaria and Galilee just north a little, much like what I did on my map. Aside from that though, it is looking very good.. You could make the Sea of Galilee a little bigger (as per the maps), but yeah, great job!!!!

That is a lot of provinces. I don't mind, though. :)

Thank you, I am glad that you like the map. Map version #5 will pe posted tonight, which will be changed per your suggestions, along with an idea for the division of Syria Province into some smaller provinces. Naturally this wll stir up more controversy, and we will go through several more map versions:D!

Dev diary #5 - Map version #5

Ok, In this map what has mainly been changed is syria province into 5 new provinces. This will be the last major map change I make-I promise ;).

Hehe, I like your 24-hour approach. :p Looking good, except for the stray pixel on the border between the brown and the light green (IV) province.

Well, if I don't put some limits on how long you have to comment, I would probably never get done :p! Thanks for spotting that stray pixel, I hadn't noticed it.:)

Sorry about the lack of an update...I am hoping to get the map up and running by sunday. So please, pray that I am able to give you screenshots by sunday :)!

I would like to make a tweak of your new map, however, I'm away from my home computer for work. However, I will be back to my home computer within a few days.. I suggest though, you get a map up and running, and tweak it later.. It shouldn't be anything too comprehensive.. Keep it up! It is looking good! :)

My plan is to get the current map up and runnign, and then edit it later. Your criticism is much appreciated :).

Hahaha, I'd hardly call it criticism mate... Helping-hand sounds far more fitting! :)

Help with the map

Ok, I found time to work on the Map files. I was testing it ot, eith the files completed, and it managed to load up to 'Creating the World' when it crashed. Any Idea why? This is the first map I have made, following that one EUIII guide. Please help.
