Can you help me out on the other problem? I want to try the repair install but what they say in WARNING #1 here

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#warning2

doesn't work...

I'm trying to do the stuff it says in WARNING #1. It doesn't work. I type in cmd in Run, but I get C:\Documents and Settings\Owner> instead of C:\WINDOWS\system32

When I try to put in the del /a /f c:\windows\system32\undo_guimode.txt blah blah it it just tells me that it can't find it.

I don't run XP but looking at that link it sounds like if the file doesn't exist then you probably don't need to worry about it. When you run cmd from the Run dialog in NT-based Windows it always opens in the user's home folder so that is also correct. Did you try the steps after that? If you've backed up the critical files they mention and the "Repair" option does appear when you boot the XP CD then it is probably good to go.

You may want to check out a windows support board.

I've just been through a crisis. I had to call a service number to fix it.

I did a repair install, but when I got back to desktop after the repair, all my internet programs would just go to Not Responding after about 2 minutes. I could still Alt+Tab etc. out of them and use the desktop and programs and whatnot, but I had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete the internet programs, and it took about 5 minutes to close them down.

After about a day of that, whenever I would try to start the computer, it would give me a userinit.exe error message when I selected my username after the computer loaded up. I could hit OK, and it would just restart my computer.

I did another repair install, and it seemed to work. However, it keeps asking me to put in the disc for my ethernet thingy, and it tells me that my sound card and my ethernet thing are not signed my Windows/microsoft blah blah.

Now I'm still having the 2-minute not responding problem with my computer. I've managed to post this but it's really unpredictable.

If you are not confident about what you are doing,
You really should take this to your dealer.

As Castellon indicated earlier on, the safest way for success would have been to start all over and reinstall your operating system. The best way to clean the house is to move to a new address so to speak.
Installing all applications isn't such a big deal if you make an inventory first. The data and various personal settings could be another thing of course, but using an extra hdd makes it a lot easier if you know what you are doing.

<edit> didn't see Castellons last reply, but heck, I agree on that too!

Great minds think a like. :)

Ok, it seems to have started working again. Hearts of Iron and EUII work, and so does my internet. However, games like Call of Duty and WWIIOL are still not working, it's the same stuff as before-15 minutes into the game, CTD or lock-up.

Looks like you are making progress, at least you have the Paradox games working correctly. :)

Lol, but I need the rest working, too.

Not really in the scope of this forum though.

I feel so horrible, a major patch just came out for WWIIOL but I can't play it :(

What does your dealer say?

This happens in Vannila HOI, CORE, and EUII and any mods for EUII. I have DirectX 9.0c, my drivers are up to date, etc.

Whenever I go to change the difficulty or even start a game, it just CTDs. I've reinstalled, applied 1.06c, it CTDs on any patch. This is REALLY annoying. Please help!

If got exactly the same problem always when the game is loading ctd
directx seems to be okay, so i think its the new display drivers (catalyst 4.11)i installed last week. will test this tomorrow. hope p-dox will be doing something about this bug. its very anoying :(

His problems are not related to Paradox games.
