I was trying to update the Kingdom of Gensokyo mod, but...I have to bend the knee and admit I don't know what to do with this. It crashes at Creating Paths, like clockwork - error logs tell me that, after it calculates adjacencies, it never finishes to initialize the map. And it is the map - of this I'm pretty sure: no other folder, changed in any way or even removed, has the slightest effect.

Are you sure that your adjacacencies i.e. your portage is correct?

The Mystery continues! Three people in the space of two pages, with exactly the same problem - a mysterious crash right after Adjacencies, despite having an apparently entirely accurate and working adjacencies.txt. And no-one seems to have any idea on how to fix it.

Maybe someone can help me with this problem, because the gods know I can't help myself. I've been trying to get this map working, It works well and nice until I change the max_provinces an sea_start values in the default.map file from the vanilla value... I'm baffled at what it could be. Maybe one of our cartographer experts can help me?

Can someone try to debug test it, please? When I do it, it outputs an empty error.txt - yes, I used debug mode. It just crashes, without outputting anything, after having calculated adjacencies.

It has been a long time since I've modded CK2! Its awesome to see some mods that were just starting back then are now released and doing well, but sad to see so many they have been lost too. In any case, I am a bit surprised there aren't many new map mods floating around, or they are outdated and unfinished (myself included). It seems people have chosen to stick to editing the default map. Are there any reasons to this?

I know when I tried to create a map in the past the problems I had was graphical glitches with a larger than 2048x2048 map. Dark maps and oil-looking rivers, among others. Has this been remedied with all the DLC and patches?

Since the release of EU4, I figured someone would have did some copy/paste work of the EU4 map files to create a better CK2 map, since I think the EU4 one is more realistic, but perhaps Paradox wouldn't allow editing of EU4 files for use in CK2?

No. I have a bunch of "placeholder" provinces to make it easier to add provinces later on. And they don't break the game ;)

I see... what are the common causes of a crash at "creating naval ranges", then? Everytime I cut down the size of provinces.bmp to another multiple of 256 or I try to add a big "terra incognita" empty province to cover the terrain that otherwise would be cut, I get crashes.

The portages are all right, I just checked to have ported the right provinces to the right id. They fit.

No one, please?

A rather unrelated question: How do you use debug mode? I wasn't aware that there is such a thing :O

@WeissRaben
Noone's gonna help you if you link a file that's private ;)

...ugh. Is that a "new" thing? It had been a while, since the last time I used Mediafire.

Also, you use debug mode by modifying a direct link to the ck2.exe file, adding -debug -mod [mod name] in the path field. So, kind of like

"C:\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\ck2.exe" -debug -mod Kingdom of Gensokyo

Doing that compiles the error.txt log file as well.

Jon, whenever you have some time, could you please check me this map?

It crashes for me at "calculating naval ranges", so I suppose the error is somewhere in adjacencies or default.map. I've a full 4096x2304 version of the map (basically this one + East Asia), and that version doesn't crash, but everytime I crop the bmp and the rest of the map files to 2816x1792 I get crashes.

Im making this lord of the rings mod i got most of the map and history done, but when i run it the game crashes. Can anyone look through my mod and see what ive done wrong? I can only attach some of the mod's maps files as to not exceed my limit.View attachment essentials.7z
I also get this log: View attachment logs2.7z
The graphics.log is particularly interesting
ignore logs.7z use logs2.7z
