Weekly Game Update

We played at Slow for most of the game with 6 players. We played from May 14 1302 to March 14 1312. Newest game MAP is up. I’ve purged and zipped the most recent game save which can be downloaded from here.

The players this session:
  • Traveler - King of Italy
  • Prime - King of Burgundy
  • Ear - King of Hungary
  • Dominus - King of England
  • KoM - King of Norway
  • Blackeye- Emporer of Byzantium briefly

We had 4 game stops. I’ll list the causes for each stop:
  • KoM CTD, accidently hit a function key
  • Stopped to p/u Dom
  • KoM & Dom CTD, not sure why
  • Blackeye & KoM CTD, not sure why
  • we played until 1312 then called it a session

A good showing and we made some good time. A lot of fracturing of realms, England, Byzantium as well as Norway and Poland to a lesser degree. We will have a second game later tonight.

Sessions two tonight
  • Saturday Evening Session (2000PST/2300EST/0400GMT/0500CET)

Open realms:
  • Kingdom of Jerusalem
  • Kingdom of Bohemia
  • Rus

Traveler

...

Good news, I can finally play on Saturday mornings now. Also, I think I can play Saturday nights from now on too. In other words, anyway we can have two sessions every week?

Oh and I am very sorry for missing so many sessions lately, though I suppose Poland paid the price.

Poland has had some trouble, yes, though nothing like England's total meltdown, or even the moderate civil war that I had. The AI DOWed me and I took back Brandenburg for its troubles, but apart from that you only have a couple of rebelling vassals here and there - and you got most of Dom's Russian provinces, so you may actually have had a net gain. Though, granted, your king is excommed and heretic, which is posisbly not completely ideal.

As for playing twice on Saturdays, I was under the impression that cheech couldn't make the 2000 PST time? Pity he missed today's session, he had a great opportunity to meddle when England imploded like that. Though I suppose RP would have crushed him, so maybe it wasn't such a missed opportunity after all. Unless Trav came in as he threatened to do.

what happened (with hungary)? couldnt wait for your rehost...too tired and drunken ;)

Nothing really, its Poland that has trouble. It has fallen apart and has a war with Bohemia and your AI also just declared war on poor Sterk.

but sterk was there? remember me next session that he will get the polish province back...north of his capital.. maybe we can do some provs trades too...would pay for it if poland needs money and ive got it!

wait, Poland's doing even worse?!

Yes it is... Your about on par with where I was 15 years ago game time...

This is ridiculous, 2 hours I leave and everything goes to hell? Basically I'm screwed for the rest of the game (including eu2 and vicky, because if I'm weak and powerless at the end of CK I always will be) because of my damned modem? Are you serious about this?

Looking over it, you are a bit better off than me, but it is painful...

Oh and my country went to hell in a handbasket because I was an hour (less than a year gametime) late. Never underestimate the damage the AI can do when you give it a chance... At least the AI in this game doesn't kill you as much as in Vicky...

Nothing much, I think. Sterk's kind of pissed at you over those counties, though. Still, if he can't get his modem fixed, that shouldn't be a problem for you. In fact, even if he can get his modem fixed, he has some troublesome vassals that will probably be his first priority for some time.

In fact, Sterk, if I were you, I would do my utmost to get that modem fixed before next week. You can recover from the current level of rebellion, but in all honesty, I'm not convinved that will remain true after one more AI session.

I have the money and the troops to help and Paris can wait a bit - So don't worry, you'll be fine in some years. Just be there next week.

I had it all fixed, how in hell could the AI screw it up even more?! I don't think I can play with this stupid modem or Comcast. I simply may have to drop out.

Please don't drop out Sterk, at least talk to Comcast first. Sometimes ISPs are actually competent. And we really, really need a Polish player, or Ear and I will run completely rampant in Russia and everybody else will be forced to use their nukes to destroy us, which would be bad because then we would have to use massive retaliation and reduce Europe to radioactive slag, which would mean that only Indian and Chinese powers would be available when we convert, which kind of spoils the point of having a CK campaign at all.

As for your question, I must admit, I'm not sure how the AI did it, but you have lots of rebels. Trav very kindly un-excommed you while he was PC, and that seems to have helped, so maybe it was the excomm that did it. But I think your situation is not as bad as what Dom recovered from, so if you can get your modem fixed, you should be OK.

Basically though, has the AI accrued any more BB? If it hasn't, then I'll be fine (they will re-pledge once I reach a low enough BB level, considering I hold king titles over all my lands). However, if my BB is insane again, I'm screwed as I used everything in my power (granting titles, etc.) to decrease it last session and it would seem my gun is out of ammo.

My biggest concern is my modem right now though, I think it might be a virus, I may have to re-format.

Also, I'm afraid I may not have enough time to recover for EU2. The CK-->EU2 conversion is the most crucial point in the entire 850 year span of the game. It determines cultures, religions, everything. Cultures which can NEVER be changed...

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can have much more BB than you did when oyu left; as far as I can tell, the AI hasn't been grabbing up titles.

About cultures, I think that most people will get one culture and that's it, so be glad you are getting Polish, which is the culture of a fair chunk of Eastern Europe. Some of us will be getting scandinavian, confined to the poor and sparsely populated peninsula.

Now, in principle you can encourage cultural conversion, but really, I don't know if it's a very viable strategy. So far I've seen exactly one during the whole game. So unless we get a patch in the next couple of months which ups conversion speeds immensely, I really don't think it matters exactly what you own when we convert. Russia has a bunch of tags anyway, which will get converted to vassal states, so we won't see instant Polish dominion over the whole of Russia no matter what.

Polish is not a large part of Eastern Europe. In fact it's smaller than it would be in EU2. It basically includes Wielkopolska, Krakow, Masovia, Galizien, Poznan, and Silesia. That's 6 provinces. Scandinavian covers the whole of the peninsula. Meanwhile, Russian is basically everything north of the Crimea, south of Finland, and east of Galich. Polish is probably the smallest main culture in the game (except maybe for English, not sure there).

EDIT: Oh, and just to clear things up... I am NOT going to quit if my modem starts working properly. I'll reformat my computer if the problem is still persisting on Friday night. If that doesn't work then providence has delivered a fatal blow to Poland I'm afraid.

I may not be able to make the upcoming Saturday morning session actually, but I shall get a sub. Again, if I must quit, it shall only be because of my modem problems, not because of Poland's recent (and only, if I may point out) catastrophic fall from power. Poland's hurting right now, but c'est la vie.

Glad to hear it Sterk; while there is nothing I would enjoy more than bringing about the defeat of your armies, seeing your king bound and beaten before me, hearing the wailing of your women, and taking your goods and herds, such triumphs are all the better for not being won over the AI.

On the cultures, I suspect that those six provinces of yours are richer than all of Scandinavia put together; still, I take your point. If you want russian culture, I suggest you download my converter source code, take a look at the state culture calculation, and begin fiddling with your demesne and vassals. Not that I would dream of encouraging anyone to exploit converter features, of course. :D

I would, but I can't seem to figure out how to install and use it.
