Not only have they taken Normandy while England writhed broken-backed, they seek to interfere with their own law, to deprive an Yngling of his rightful inheritance! Too long have we stood aside and watched this villainous family build up their strength; the time has come to crush the nest of vipers in our midst. I call on the Conclave of Kings to assemble once more, and prune back this overgrowth so we can all breathe freely!

For centuries now Norway has been hungry for the riches of Flanders and other European kingdoms.

They invaded for plunder - we built castles.
They invaded for land - we chased them out.

Now, with the fearsome Viking warrior a vague memory, they fight with words, filled with half truths and lies. Norway never helped England - they invaded to take their lands for themselves. The armies of Flanders stood to defend England.

To Fernando Jimenez King of Iberia:

I have read many documents of old describing the heroism and love of God and the Christian world by the people of Iberia. I must tell you I feel that I owe you much. The deeds your brave men acted out to protect the holy land and yet the whole of Europe are like legend in my lands. I have read also that it was Iberia who was first to liberate Jerusalem from the heathens. I also read that is was liberate a second time by the Kingdom of Poland. It matters not who is to be owed the full honor of the task said. Just to know that It was done and the lands are safe in the hands of the true people of our lord. I must also state there where if you desire our aid you shall have it, provided we can supply the mighty king of Iberia with any ofcourse. Best wishes to you King of Iberia.

To Kazemierz Piast King of Poland:

I feel we are kin yet I know nothing of you. I read much of Polands past and the liberation of Jerusalem, but I am just one man in a land of people who are nothing like me. I do understand for they are my brothers under our lord but they are of much differnt stock. I cannot relate to these people who lives are so differnt then mine. Would I have the chance to meet with the King of Poland and discuss much of times past and times to come I would be overjoyed if only to meet others who I can relate with if only for a short while. I hope to hear from you soon. With love.

To Richard de Flandre King of Burgundy:

I come to asking for what is to me the greatest thing of all. The hand in marriage to your sister Martha when she comes of age. Whos beauty is renowned this world over. I have seen her and know it in my heart that there is only one women in my life that I may love and it is her. I demand nothing just that I would leave you with the choice to end a Line of a weak name or build that which will live forever.

Although the fortunes of war have not yet graced Our armies with victory, We remain confident that with the strength of Our allies and the might of the Lord God of Hosts We shall bring this war to a victorious conclusion. Norway stands firm in its conviction of the righteousness of Our cause, and spits its defiance at the Polish invader. We shall fight in Sweden; we shall fight in the Eastern Sea; we shall fight - with growing confidence, and growing strength - in the North. We shall defend our lands, whatever the cost may be! We shall fight on the beaches; we shall fight on the landing grounds; we shall fight in the forests and the hills. We shall never surrender!

Therefore, We wish to make known Our terms for ending this war, as God surely wills, before more men die. First, the impious heretic, Kazimierz Piast, who pretends to the throne of Rus, must cease and desist in this foul and unlawful action, and give over all claim, right, and power of the said throne to a Duke of the Rus, not of the Piast line. Second, the island of Gotland, which by ancient right belongs to Our kingdom of Sweden, must acknowledge Our right to tax, draw scutage, declare war and make peace, take seisin, receive bread and salt, demand the loyalty of fighting men, and all other rights and privileges that the Piast line now pretends to.

If these conditions are not met, We shall continue the struggle, serene in Our faith that God wills Us to fight for His holy cause.

Italy​

The Kingdom of Italy​


To Heathens in Poland and Their Followers:

From The King of Italy:

It is of no surprise that Poland has brought Europe to war once again. Their foul stench has corrupted the air of many courts for some time. Italy will support all those realms that have entered into this most righteous endeavor to free the oppressed in the East. I will now outline Italy’s case for going to war and the goals Italy seeks to end it.

Our case against the corrupt ruler of Poland.
  • Recently, Cuman was released from Hungary as part of a peace deal with Poland only to have it quickly conquered by Poland.
  • Hungary fell into a civil war and Poland interjected itself in the internal affairs of a sovereign realm.
  • News has come to us that the Bishop of Mantua has proof the King of Poland worships Satin.
  • Oleg, Duke of Apulia and heir to the throne of Italy, has proof that a Piast spy assassinated his son Oleg II.
  • The recent plagues that have ravaged the lands as of late are but a curse upon all of us for not standing against the heretical rule in Poland.

Our goals to end the war with Poland
  • Poland to release Cuman lands to the King of Cuman.
  • Poland to release Georgian lands and the crown of Georgia to Hungary who will create an independent Georgian Kingdom.
  • Poland to create an independent kingdom of Rus.

Our case for war with Burgundy
  • Burgundy’s constant support of Polish expansion.
  • Entering this war against Italy, on the side of Poland, with full knowledge they are wrong.

Our goals to end the war with Burgundy
  • Burgundy must release all lands that the King of France has claims to.

Our case for war with Bohemia
  • The current ruler has risen to power by usurping the crown from it’s rightful heir. Italy has long been the champion of Bohemian sovereignty and will endeavor to rid that kingdom of this most un-welcome interloper.
  • Entering this war against Italy, on the side of Poland, has forced Italy to resort to force of arms for which no quarter shall be given to Bohemia.

Our goals to end the war with Bohemia
  • Bohemia will release the County of Treviso to Italy.

May God grant those who stand against the evil that has revealed itself in Poland, victory against them and their misguided followers.

To the Kings of Europe:

Once more war rages, once more men shall die, mankind suffer. Why do we fight this war? Fear. To weaken those you fear. Italy fear Poland. Norway fear Poland. They are the ones who sought this war. Hungery, Byzantium, France and Iberia, most likely joined in because of honour and pledges. But this wouldn't have happened if we didn't fear eachother. Iberia has feared the Burgundians, wrongfully. They might seem powerful, but they are not. Their fear of us, has driven them into the camp of Poland. We, who speak for our young king Jimino Jiminez, wish that the bloodspilling shall end. We wish that war shall end. Eventhough the Piasts of Poland has done many wrongs, taken the land of Rus. Let it end. Give up Rus, please, it is a small thing to do, compared the blood spilled by christians. Italy, please, show some mercy. Georgia was resurrected by the Piasts, they have a rightous claim to it, not the hungerians.

Why speak so harsh? I went to war to free Rus. Not about Georgia, not about Cuman, not about some countship in the southern Alps. If you continue to work to your goals, I will have no option, then to seek peace. I rather see the Rus under Piast, then Georgia under the hungerian crown.

And, heralds of Poland, tell me that Italy has sought support by the Piasts of Poland to force Iberia out of Bagdad? Your realm, your fathers conspired against Iberia? With your so-called archenemy? If Italy has done so, tell us the thruth, my dear Vladimir de Hauteville. If it is but a cunning lie of the Piasts, then all is forgotten. But if it is true...

Although We are delighted that such an honourable and powerful King should come to Our aid, nevertheless We feel that the demands you have placed upon the Polish line of the Piasts are insupportable. Such humiliating terms can only prolong the war, and cause bad feeling among victor and vanquished alike; surely you would not wish to see Poland as an armed camp, seeking only revenge against those who have wronged them, instead of concentrating on the Word of God as a Christian kingdom should? Truly, it is not a pious act to give men cause to focus on this world! And, as no King can honourably accept such Carthaginian terms as you have proposed, you will force the Piasts into extremities of desperation; they will fight to the last to avoid any such peace. Thereby more brave warriors will be killed resisting our inevitable victory, which cannot be pleasing to man or God.

We urge that you be satisfied with the coronation of a king of the Rus; surely such a mighty nation would act as a check to Polish ambition.

As regards your terms concering Bohemia, we find them eminently reasonable; a nation that acts against its own best interest must expect to be punished, and Treviso is a reasonable token. As for Burgundy, We feel that they are of sufficient power to look after their own interests, and therefore do not speak either way to this. However, We require from them a promise that the ownership of Eu shall not be altered.
 
Vladimir de Hauteville has clearly gone mad with hybris and thus we refuse to even listen to his terms.

Vladimir is vengefull and deceitfull and we weep for the death this madman has brought troughout Europe.

Burgundy is getting very annoyed by all the Ynglings trying to impregnate chaste young Flemish countesses. The stories about beautifull Scandinavian women must be highly exagarated. Burgundy will not loose anymore land on the whims of young girls and lustfull vikings and we shall retake Eu (ooc - if wargoals allow, as I am just honouring my alliance)

I wish to know who has killed my former heir apparent. I have received messages from both of you claiming that you have killed him. Tell me immediately who struck him down in cold blood at the age of 12 or I shall make war throughout the world and the Wrath of God shall be upon this bloody continent. I demand now to know who committed this evil deed. At least one of you is lying and if the liar(s) does not confess now then he shall suffer all the more.

Cease and desist in your unlawful occupation of the sovereign and independent Kingdom of Bohemia. Return the crown of that land to its rightful dynasty, the von Nordheims. If you do not accomplish these things, rest assured that We will come into your land with all our might, take your cities, burn your crops, kill your men, and in all other ways make unceasing war upon you until you submit to the law of God and man. This We swear on Our honour.
 
Calm yourself foolish Swede. Or are you a Dane? Well, it doesn't matter, all you Nordics are the same anyway. Threats, threats, and more threats, all of them worthless.

But to the point. Yes, I shall release the Kingdom of Bohemia, but of my own free will and when I feel it is necessary. I will not be bullied by inferior barbarians. Now, before you soil yourself, be assured that I will create the kingdom in a timely manner, but once again, not when you tell me to. Poland has shown its strength and cleverness many times in the field and at the negotiating table to be far above that of the Scandinavians. Therefore, I suggest you leave me to the business of Bohemia and run along back to your little hut of a castle.
 
The Iberian Kingdom​

he Kingdom of Italy disturbs the interests of Europe. Acting like a judge over Europe, passing judgement and orders to all alike; if opposed, he brings down his wrath upon you all. But We have no memory of appointing the Kingdom of Italy Judge of Europe. He is self-appointed. He rules with no law, but his mere personal whims. In the most recent war with the Burgundians over Bohemia, Italy claimed to support the wish of Burgundy for a honourable peace with no changes in land nor money. But he changed his opinion after hearing the beggings of France to support his side. Then he did abandon his word of supporting an honourable peace to aid France in her search for "reparations". The blood of Italy must have become weaker, now it is Russian; for the Russians could not uphold their own kingdom, even with the support of the western kings. Now the Russians sit on the throne of Italy. Iberia wishes to see a return of the long gone kings of Normandic blood, or of Italian.

Italy is powerful. Dare I say, too powerful for her own good? But something must be done.

EDIT: Done it, and no I am not drunk, mearly distracted by studies. Darn re-exams...

If the Kings of Spain are indeed so concerned with the power of others, let them release the Persians to go their own way; let them aid in rebuilding the Byzantine Emperor's domains, these many years fractured by civil war; let them free the Iranian highlands from Hungarian domination; let them liberate the oppressed people of Russia, who groan under Poland's yoke. The Kings of Italy have used their power honourably, opposing those who would rule unchecked by law or custom, championing the underdog as true and chivalrous knights should. When Spain has freed the people of the ancient East, they may speak of over-mighty kings; until that time, let them look to the beam in their own eyes, and not the mote in that of their brother.

The Iberian Kingdom​
Yes, my northern King. Iberia rules over lands strecting from Portugal to West of Bagdad, but is it that powerful? Let me disagree. Study your maps well, my northern King, and you will see a distinct differance between the realms of Italy and of Iberia. See it now? Italy is one mass, with the addition of Tunisia. While Iberia is of three masses, widely apart. Is this a more powerful realm? To have lands over greater distance, and still not as powerful as the Italians. Who do you fear most? A King with many men in one group, or a King with fewer men, in smaller groups. I would fear the first King, since his could with ease destroy the other Kings smaller group, with far more ease.

Furthermore, Iberia has been peaceful, has it once stood first to war another christian king? No, Iberia has followed others, mostly Italia. Now, this first time when Iberia warns about another christian realm, who is the most powerful, recieve the same treatment from the Northern Kingdom? Look beyond, and see the truth. Remember that I wish no harm to anyone, just have in mind that Italy, most recently shunned the burgundians who they supported before and sought a honourable peace, but they betreayed the burgundians in the middle of the war by reversing their words. Have it in your mind, King of the North.

As regards fear, the Ynglings know none, so We cannot speak to which kingdom one should be most afraid of. But We see Spain extending its borders from Burgundy to Africa, while Italy remains content with its peninsula and a few cities in Tunis. Moreover the Hauteville kings have stood by Norway in our wars, or at most striven honourably against us in open battle; while Spain has abandoned comrades-at-arms while swords still clashed against shields and the issue of the war was yet in doubt.

To the impious Piast, who pretends to the crown of Bohemia :

Insults, from a man who kills children for gain, is as sweet to Us as flattery from any other. The blood of Olaf Yngling, strangled in his crib for no better reason than his Yngling birth, cries out to Us for vengeance. Thus far We have stilled Our hands from mercy towards the thousands who would die in extracting such vengeance as is fitting and proper for the death of a prince. Do not try Our patience too far.
 
A Peace Offer From The King of Poland-Rus, Lithuania, Bohemia, and Bolgar, Lord of the Steppes, Bulwark of Christendom, Overseer of All from the Elbe to the Urals, Protector of the Kingdom of Cuman, and Benefactor of the Slavic Peoples to Hakon, King of the Scandinavian Peoples and Ruler of the Swedes, Norwegians, and Finns:

We have thrown our soldiers against each other for years now, and my generals have achieved victory over your invasion forces. Soon the fight shall come to your doorstep and your noble line's great constructions shall be brought to the ground. Once Polish troops have their foothold in Sweden, there shall be no mercy, no quarter shall be given. The forests will be set aflame. Make your decision now, for I offer you this peace.

The Counties of Brandenburg, Novgorod, Sambia, Lower Silesia, and Tver to the Kingdom of Poland.

That is my offer, and it is only to retake land that is rightfully Polish, lands stolen not through a just and fair war, but deception and assassination. If you do not accept this peace, I fear that the war must be brought to Norway itself. Once I have laid your realm prostrate the peace shall be much harsher on your Norwegian kingdom. All the lands south of Onega shall be demanded, as well as all the lands east of the Elbe, in addition to the demands already set forth.

The Yngling Kings are not merchants, to barter away the freedom of kinsmen like fish in the marketplace. Our Yngling jarls in Silesia and Tver have a call to Our protection, and they shall have their rights. The Yngling ætt will stand together, or fall together. But no scheming Piast shall break us apart. And God will protect the righteous.
