England

From the King of England:

To the lands of Flanders and France:

The war we have fought, though unjustly waged against a peaceful England has brought the idea to our minds that peace would definately be better. Thus England offers a return to the pre-war borders for both France and Flanders in return for the everlasting recognition of the English claims to Brittany and Normandy. We urge these two nations to agree for England now, thanks in great deal to Norway, holds the sharpest of upper hands in this conflict.

GREATER NORWEGIAN REALM

Olaf, by the Grace of God, King of Norway and Denmark, King of Sweden, the Wends and the Goths,

To Our most beloved brothers, the Kings of France and Flanders :

Greetings! It is Our most earnest wish that the Clouds of Discord that have of late disrupted the Peace of the land may now be dispelled. We entreat you most humbly to hear the Embassy of our faithful and esteemed brother, Geoffrey King of England, and to cease and desist in this useless and Impious bloodshed. For surely it can bring you naught but evil tidings and the wailings of the bereaved.

We remain, your brother in Christ,

Olaf III Halkjellson, King of Norway.

To All True Believers in Christ:

As of late, the Papacy has been wildly out of control. This must be brought to a halt. I propose a massive re-working of the Papal structure. At present, it is impossible for the Pope to faithfully and impartially oversee matters of faith. His decisions are always tainted by matters of state. Therefore, I believe he must focus on one or the other. Either he must renounce his leadership over the church or renounce his lands to the Kingdoms of Naples and Denmark. The latter, quite obviously, is preferrable. The Bible says nothing of Peter being given the right to rule over men's souls AND lands. He has given little reason for my own excommunication. Furthermore, the Archbishop of Krakow has decreed his support for me over this false pope (event). This Papacy must be taught that its authority is derived from the Holy Trinity. God the Father, Christ, and the Holy Spirit, would not allow such misuse of divine power.

Wincenty Piast, Protector of the Slavic Peoples, King of Poland, Lithuania, Georgia, and Bolgar

The Pope is the spokesman for Jesus Christ himself. He is Gods reprensative for mankind. Wincenty Piast, you are king by the grace of God. Jesus Christ is the king of kings. Petrus the very first pope, apostel to Jesus, himself, was granted the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. The current Pope is heir to Petrus. Therefore, if you challange the Pope as you do now, you do not follow the word of Christ. Thus the excommunication of you, Wincenty Piast, is rightous.

GREATER NORWEGIAN REALM

Trond, by the Grace of God, King of Norway and Denmark, King of Sweden, the Wends and the Goths, Sovereign of the Ocean Sea, and Overlord of Finland :

To Our most beloved brothers, the Kings of Christendie :

Greetings!

In the matter of the Pope's secular holdings, We hold that, firstly, the See of St Peter must of Necessity have a Presence on this Earth, in order that it may be Supported without requiring recourse to the Charity of Kings; for does not the Good Book say, "Put not your Trust in Princes?" And therefore it is Just and Reasonable that the Papacy shall retain their Holdings in Italy, or at the very least the Eternal and Holy City of Rome; with which We feel certain Our brother of Naples will concur.

Second, that the city and domain of Bergenhus comes by God's Right to the line of Ynglings; and inasmuch as the Popes have proved unable to maintain Order and Justice in the ancient Seat of our Rule, due to its distance from their other Domains, Our forefather was Mistaken when in his Benevolence he gifted it to the See of St Peter. And therefore, in order that the Papacy may better attend to matters Spiritual, We shall of Our Grace relieve them of the burden of its administration.

We remain, your brother in Christ,

Trond Yngling, King of Norway.

To Trond Yngling, King of Norway:

You dare to join in with the King of Poland and his so-called just cause to relieve the Papacy of it's lands? Be that Bergenhus is in turmoil. But it is still the lands of the Pope. If you go against the Pope in war and claim for yourself what is the rightful lands of the Pope. You will sow grief and animosity between rightous Catholic Kings of Europe. What you sow, shall you reap dear Trond Yngling, King of Norway. With these words I warn you. Think before you act. Or shall the wise Pope hopefully and rightfully excommunicate you.

To the Kings of Europe.

Some have been troubled of the hardwon land around Bagdad, that was conquered from the Il-Khan. Some fear the might of the serene Empire of Iberia. They have nothing to fear. I am a man of peace. I have waged war on my fellow christians. I have claimed to help the Holy Roman Empire, if someone was to wage war upon them. They are afterall the Holy Roman Empire. Holy. Onwards to the matters of Mesopotamia. I have no desire to govern that distant lands. But I will. For the safety of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, who was threathened by the Il-Khan. If and when a suitable person is found, I will crown him to King of Mesopotamia. As the sainted Great King Alfonso Jiminez, once did for Humbert de Hauteville. So will I, Juan Jiminez, do.

King of Iberia, Mauretania and Mesopotamia, Juan Jiminez

To Gilbert de Hauteville, King of Italy, Naples and Tunisia and Artemios Argyros, Emperor of Byzantium, King of Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia.

We survived our first important senatemeeting. With the might that we have, we rule Mare Nostrum. Eventhough, my dear fellow senator Artemios is an schismatic to the pope. He is a bearer of great history and power. Let us continue this work. Let the rest of Europe hold us in greatest respect. For we are the Roman Empire, risen like the Phoenix, upholder of the christian faith and civility of Europe.

Juan Jiminez, fellow senator.

I, Zybszko Piast shall, at every turn, oppose the actions of this unholy alliance. If they are strengthened any further, the apocalypse shall come down upon our heads, and none but the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse shall ride among us. This is why we must all unite to fight this great evil that arises in the south! Three of the Horsemen have already gathered together on this Earth. These three horsemen are Gilbert de Hauteville, Juan Jimenez, and Artemios Argyros. We cannot allow this alliance to grow any stronger and bring about the end of the world. The very fate of the Christian people rests upon our shoulders, oh kings of Northern Europe. We must bring mighty, righteous justice upon the servants of Satan who claim to own the great Mediterranean. I say again, I shall do my utmost to bring about their destruction.

England

From the lands of England:

The English crown too feels that the southern alliance assembles too much power in the hands of those who wield it in the most unjust of fashions. We still remember the Italians marching on English lands when we were already at war along our entire continental border and we do not forget unjust actions such as those.

The recent wars in the east have shown us how Poland stood for Christiandom against the pagan hordes (we already knew the might and just actions of our brethren in Norway) and how right we would be to have the support of such a nation.

So it is that England announces its support for the Polish call to maintain balance in Europe. Let the lines be struck and we invite our friends in Norway to lay down their strife with Poland for the betterment of all.

Are we warmongerers? The three rulers of the three great southern realm? No. We only seek peace and stability. We seek to help eachother. The mad ramblings of Zybszko Piast are only what they are, mad ramblings. Look further then the words spoken by him, fellow kings. The realm of Iberia has been serene towards christians. Have I sought war on other realms? Have I?

You have nothing to fear.

Juan Jiminez.

To Our most beloved brothers, the Kings of Christendie :

We are not overly Concerned with who shall rule in the distant Mediterranean Sea; We feel sure of the peaceful Intentions of Our brother Kings in Iberia, Italy, and Miklagard. Still, the Håvamål rightly states that "with unfriend's friend, friendship to hold, suits not gentle folk." Therefore we extend the hand of Friendship to Poland, for we have no desire to lose our Brotherhood with the English Kings. And let all men Know, that should our English brethren call us to War, Norway will answer.

We remain, your brother in Christ,

Trond Yngling, King of Norway.

The kings of the north fear the kings of the south? What has lead us here? Mistrust and animosity. You say you fear us in the south. You have no reason. I left the so-called "New Roman Empire", which was initiated by my father. THey could not help me, while the lands of Bagdad was overwelmed by the mongols. Giving the schismatical Byzantians and Italians plenty of time to carve up lands for themselves. I asked for help and only recieved silence. I will look to the best of Iberia, whatever it may be. However I cannot ignore the long and standing history with the de Hautevilles.

Enrique Jiminez, King of Iberia.

We have been known for being generous to our allies and lenient to our enemies. Only to have the same enemies attack us time and again. That ends now.

Twice have we been invaded by the French. Both times because the French King, in his folly and consumed by jealousy, wanted to live in beautifull Paris himself.

Both times the Lord Almighty, in his infinite wisdom, brought disaster to the French armies upon the battlefield and we have demanded no repairations from France while many of our resources were needlessly lost.

Now Burgundy is stronger then ever and with the pope on our side we swear the following: The next time France attacks us with fabricated claims, we shall burn the country to the ground and leave no stone standing upon another. The pope has declared he shall then close the Gates of Heaven for her rulers, their offspring and those monarchs foolish enough to side with the French until the third generation.

Paris is and has been our capitol for over 200 years and it is our God given right that it shall remain so.

Koning van Bourgondië

In light of such barbaric threats made by the so called king of burgundy, france will respond in like. Burgundy will be looted, burned and so forth if war is to arise. The greed of the burgundian brood sickens the free french in the south. Gold raised from the occupied french lands fills his coffers while the free french struggle to live off the land.

'Fabricated claims' is a funny one since it was our capitol and stolen from us by the duke. The fact the so called king has occupied it for 200 years makes the travesty the greater and the claim no less false.

From the King of Iberia
To the King of Italy

Eventhough I urged you to not involve yourself in the war over Paris, yet you did. I fear that the longtime friendship between the Iberians and Italians has come to an end. The friendship founded by the sainted King Alfonso the Great, when he took the Duchy of Apulia under the Castillian wings, and gave them Sicily. The relation between our nations has been strained. Now they are shattered. You may seek friendship with the burgundians, I have, from now on, sheated my sword and will as long as I live, never, be raised in support of your realm. Rule wisely.

From the King of Iberia
To the King of Burgundy

So it has passed, the day of change and rupture. Even with the blood from de Flandres that flow in my veins, I must seek what is best for Iberia. The best for Iberia, is not what is best for Burgundy and what is best for Burgundy, may not be the best for Iberia. Many lives has been spilled, for many realms. Do we need to continue spill it? Do we need to wage war until all the able man lies on the field, dead? We rule by the grace of God, mark my words, God does not seek bloodshed from christians fighting christians. Pax.

From the King of Iberia

To the Kings of England and France

France has been given what she has sought. But Burgundy seeks revenge, with her stands Italy and Hungery. We need to seek peace and reconsiliation from all. If we fight, we shall all loose, us and them.

From the Kingdom of England:

To the lands of Iberia, France and Norway:

What the great lord of Iberia speaks is true. We should not seek further war with those in Burgandy, but the onus unfortunately lies on the people ruling those lands. We may speak peace all we wish, but it shall not remain so long as in his heart of hearts the king of Burgandy still wishes war. So while we speak of peace we must be sure to have a counterweight, a way from which to restrain the bloody ambitions of the peoples of the north. For they not only gain power from the assistance of the Italians, but from that of the Polish hordes and heathens to the east.

Remaining we have three uncommitted nations. Of them; the Byzantium leans towards the Italians, but they are distant and from what our ears hear, suffer from near constant internal struggles, Hungary leans towards those in Burgandy, but it is a young nation in terms of power and no true threat yet, and finally is Norway, old friend of England or so we still hope. While the lines of communication have been allowed to grow cold over the years, we hope that those in the north still wish to fight alongside their old allies should it come to that.

Together an alliance of Iberia, France, Denmark and England could control the west and as we desire peace, with the backing of our power to make war, we could maintain that peace, at whatever costs to those peoples who break the decreed peace of god between Christian (and even half Christian lands such as Poland, Hungary and the Byzantium) peoples across the world. Can the kings of the west imagine, such a force, capable of striking at any coast should the treachery of the north and east raise its head? With such a line of power we could protect those peaceful peoples under our banners from harm by those who wish to destroy all they hold dear.

I ask my fellow kings to think hard on this. For it may very well be the lynchpin upon which our future is held.

Why do you speak of peace? Those have been our words all the time. 3 times have we bested the french in their mad quest for Paris. We have never taken anything from the french, while it was our right after being victorious.

Now, with my ally Poland incapacitated, France made an unholy alliance and invaded my lands -again.

France is like a spoiled child, who has been nagging her bigger cousins for a toy that isn't hers for years. We shall take the toy back and give the spoiled brat a sound spanking.

This is the fourth time within a century that the english invade our lands, for no reason whatsoever and we shall talk peace when our lands are returned to us.

We can forgive our cousin in Iberia for his being misguided by the treacherous french, but will give a warning - This war has only just started and now is the time to renew our old friendship.

This is not Norways war and we hope we can renew our old alliance with our former liegelord.

[OOC - I didn't have any militairy spending during last war (bad mistake), making my armies vapourize through atrittion. Also the attack came just after my ally Poland went linkdead, leaving me alone against 3 countries. So I will fight.]

The Peace of God being surely the most gracious of His gifts to mankind, We are most loathe to see it broken. Yet all men should know that, if Our friends of England call us to Arms, the dragon-ships of Norway shall once more sally forth to battle.

[OOC] That is, as soon as I get my damn Internet connection, which indeed I was expecting on Monday.

Italy

The Kingdom of Italy

To The King of Castille:

From The King of Italy:

Lo that mine eyes do deceive me, for my heart breaks, I know not why such disdain would come from one we counted as our blood. What crime have I done, that such a punishment be exacted, I fear I cannot comprehend the slight that would cause thee to such wrath.

Forsake not what our fore fathers have shaped, lo their dreams for the peoples of Rome’s past, to once again live together in greatness. Strong is the brotherhood our people hath made, that they share in the bounty of our two lands.

Our swords have struck down foes who’ve threatened the other, united under a common cause, our enemies have fallen under our feet, to be trampled into the ground never to rise again. Machinations wrote by those with evil in their hearts have fared none too well against the righteous supremacy of our combined might.

I beseech thee to reconsider this course that would bring much sorrow to our lands, the likes of which can only be compared to the plight that nearly befell our people nigh 20 times 10 winters past. I pray God know my heart and grant thee Devine guidance in this most fateful decree, Providence has brought our people together, may God’s will keep us by thine’s side.

Your always faithful brother in God,

Vasilii de Hauteville

...

From the King of Iberia
To the King of Italy

My dear Vasilii, you are inconsistent. You go against me, and now you beg for reconsiliation? The brotherhood of our realms was strong. Together we are powerful, there is no lie to that, Vasilii. You say that our swords has struck down the enemies of the other. But that is a lie, isn't Vasilii? Castille, that was, and Iberia has many times come to aid your realm, against the Holy Roman Empire, against the will of the kings who ruled. Bound by pledge, Sancho Liberator of Jerusalem, did.

We have never asked for your help, and the one time we did ask, was when my father was fighting against the Il-Khan near Bagdad. Watching as the men of Iberia was cut down by the mongols. Pleaing for help. But recieved silence.

You say that my route will bring sorrow to your lands? I beg to differ. Your realm is strong, you have befriended with Burgundy. A mighty land that required three realms to overpower it. With Burgundy comes Poland, a longtime rival, and Hungery. If your sorrow comes from fear of being weak, then you are mad. You are not weak. Not with your new allies.

Providence may have brought our people together, but what holds our people together? Fear? Lust for power? Or old ancient pledges. Ancient things are best left alone.

Pax.
