Talking about icon replacement , how about an alternative unimproved port maybe just a small colored dot without the anchor.

Just tell me approximately how should it look like it and I'll try to do it (both empty and full port).

TeutonburgerW,

here's a little improvement I'd really enjoy: an icon for structures which are being produced, more or less the same as for units, to tell at a glance what's being built. I haven't properly resized them but you get the idea. It would be good if we could reserve a space roughly as big as the one for regular unit icons on the left of the production bar... do you think it's feasible?

Thanks in advance!

Haven't found and don't know if they are moddable, i.e. have their own icon, but it's just a standard background and the name is hardcoded, so if we add, let's say an anchor, then all buldings will have an anchor on it even if it's a nuclear plant. Or am I wrong?

Ok, icon is done - however, I'm experiencing a problem. Icon's palette is 256 colors; after I mod it, by saving it my editing program automatically converts it to 24bit colors and thus screws my work (background becomes visible, in game).

@ TeutonburgerW, do you know a quick way to convert .bmp files from 24bit format back to 256 color format?

Edit: about this:

Honestly, I haven't got a clue! That's why I asked you ;) . I gave the input and hoped you could turn it into fact :D .

Just open the original (un modded file) and copy over the modded picture and save and then you get the correct palette or send it to me and I'll fix it.

And it was hard coded, unfortuantley. :(

Hmmm... I tried but it didn't work  (anyway, copying the original over the modded one would overwrite it, so maybe I didn't understand what you mean - perhaps, copying the modded one over the original?). It saves it in 24b. I think I'll pick the 2nd option you gave me, then ;) .

See what you can do ;) .

Another problem linked with that is that I wanted to widen the darkened area in the topbar. File is topbar_plate.bmp; I added the required length but, as the file has been saved in 24b instead of 256, it's unusable just like the harbor one... help!

Get easy to use iview (http://www.irfanview.com/)
Open the picture
Reduce colours to 256 colours
Save

Thank you, Leonaru. Tried that - opened the picture, selected "decrease color depth", chose "256 colors", clicked OK and saved. However, below you can see the results. It's clear that I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what...

It's not .bmp instead of .png?

And there's some mods that have changed this icon, you can take a look.

That's a problem related with Imageshack, I guess. The file I uploaded (and put in AoD folder to make that screenshot) was a .bmp, of course.

Yes, I know there are many other mods for that icon, thank you. The fact is that I'd like to understand how to convert from 24b to 8b (that is, 256 colors) since I'm a modder too and like to make icons and other stuff by myself :) .

I use Paint.NET and it gives me the possibility to save .bmp in 8-bit.

Irfanview gives this option too; but, at least in this case, it didn't worked! And I don't know why...

Hi, Titan79!

Would you please be so kind and .zip or .rar it (as bmp) and send it to me via filefront? When uploading, you'll lose lots of quality in the pictures, so it's better if I fix it from 24-bit BMP than from a .png

On another note, I'd wish to adress the community as well as the great people who've been active in this thread and especially directed to Titan79, LordInsane, GAGA Extrem (correct?! ;)) and bestmajor:

Are you/we interested in expanding this rather small mod to a larger one with the following premises:

1) Enchane current graphical outlook while keeping in the current theme (i.e. only B&W for ministers, leaders and such)
2) Expand into enchance tech pics (already started and done all infantry... looks quite much better, me thinks) and such, alas not only interface questions.
3) Provide the users with an basic (or light) and full version of the mod where the basic are those small, not so "overhauling", and the full will include revised tech pics, new skins, etc etc

If that's the case and there are people willing to contribute at their own pace or if they want to be a regular developer of the mod, please say so or contact me via PM.

Also, any mods (Lennartos, balesir, wYK1NG, Cardus) who would willing to support us with such a project - if it's wanted - by granting us a subforum where we can coordinate our efforts into differnt themes and threads and avoid having to move to an external forum which will "scare off" potientail contributors/developers and so forth...

?

sure, maybe not regularly but i'll throw sth in your direction from time to time if you dont mind?

btw re the harbour symbols the best (IMO) can be found over at stonyroad in this thread:

http://www.stonyroad.de/forum/showthread.php?t=6945

(made by Steffele/HSR i think)

EDIT: well if u need leaders/ministers pics look at my sig?

EDIT2: what about a new clock for ministers/leaders (a smaller one, or move it?)

@ TeutonburgerW

Yeah, I agree, although I have to warn you that I normally don't have very much spare time. This week has been an exception since I was ill and stayed home, but normally I can dedicate myself to AoD modding (and AoD itself ;) ) only in the weekends. So if you're going to hire me to the team besides these premises, I'm in ;) .

BTW, the modified harbour for Chromius is here.

@ bestmajor

Here you go, mate. I changed its position, shrinked and darkened it a bit, too (hope you won't mind). File goes to ...\AoD\gfx\interface.

P.S.: are you the same guy from Stony Road too...?

Would you mind to ask the developer if he agrees for me to include it in the mod with proper credit given? (If he's still on the board... such a shame to not use such good work :()

Do you mean the 3000+ link or colored pictures? Since I do belive most people will prefer B&W, I'd like to keep minister and leaders as B&W. Other things, like tech team images and tech pics and events and such, I'd absolutley think could be colorized, but the reason why I want leader and ministers because they are in enormous amount and if we can make all those pics colorized, I'd rather have none... To keep a "standard" line throughout the game..

The clock is included.

Thanks for the (nicely) done clock, Titan79!

And of course, I expect nothing and I'm glad for everything! Not even I have that much time, but with so good support this mod recived, I think something could be done if we're smart and use the little amount of time we actually have, to do creative tasks.

A sort of work order I thought of and like to share:

1. General interface
2. New tech pics
3. New generic model pics
4. New model pics (both divisional and brigade)
5. New skins
7. Optional colorscale ;)

I don't wanna be a contenstent to GIP (who done a great job through the years) and they very much create an complet new game gfx-wise and done a greatjob with colorzie everything, but I'd rather want to enchance the current gfx-style. Also, and hopefully, something of what I/we do, will make it up in a patch and so that we all can contribute and making this great game even greater.. Since it's an "user-made game", I even more feel to show my support, so other will feel in the future, that these user made projects has support and they are not alone in wanting to develop the game further.. :p

I support this position of yours and say that you can sign me up :) . I too would like to show the devs that we really care about this game... although I hope they alredy noticed it! Did they...? :( ;)

Oh, and
Thanks for the (nicely) done clock, Titan79!
No problem, you're welcome. As a matter of fact, I've later noticed that while it looks good for M Leaders, it doesn't as well for Ministers. I'll check and improve it later. BTW, if you have suggestions on it fell free to tell me (I was thinking about moving it from the bottom left to the bottom right corner of the pictures).

thanks! i'll try that, and yes theres only one guy with such a stupid nick:wacko:

the first, btw GER/ITA and BUL are already from me in AoD, fin is from Manfred(number, i forgot this) btw, you can already improve FIN if you search for a double ";" in the leaders CSV (sorry didnt spot that one last year)

agreed to the leaders thing, personally i prefer to have a good b&w white than a messed up colour thing.

as for the techs stuff maybe try this one?

http://www.filefront.com/15806445/TECH-PICS1.rar/

if we can make this complete (appr 500) it should be worth it (but please no reenact, movies and such things, at least for me)

about Steffele and his availability i dont know, really i think he's gone?

maybe its ok if you add a proper credits and contributers list next to the link, but i'll try to at least find somebody who knows him better and is probably able to say if this could be ok with him or not)

EDIT: btw Titan clock isnt working

note the green colour may not be changed to stay invisible, so simple shrinking doesnt work unfortunately (has to be exactly the green)

Glad you like it (well, I hope :) ), and let me tell you that it's nice to spot here some people from the Stony Road forum which I used to surf so much some time ago ;) !

EDIT: ok, now I know I'll always have to attach .zip or .rar files to avoid images losing definition and color :( .

Here is the clock. I've made two versions: one that overlaps the leader/minister pic and one that doesn't. As you will see, the one that overlaps (which may be considered better for just that reason) has the disadvantage that it's actually almost invisible in the minister screen. OTOH, the other can be seen at all times but 1) it shrouds the leader/minister pic and 2) is not very visible.

So, we have two solutions:

1) coloring the clock, since pics are all B&W;

2) finding out how to somehow move it to the right of the pictures, something that I tried to do but to no avail (there must be some palette underneath, I think, which acts as a limit and which I should figure out how to enlarge).

Suggestions welcome.
