For these new unique legends, is the DLC still necessary? Or is it more like modding struggles, where only the base game is needed?

Unfortunately DLC will still be needed, since most of the Legends bonuses require the DLC. It's not like struggles where the framework doesn't need DLC and it's just a specific instance (Iberia and Persia) that make use of that framework.

RICE 1.12.1 PREVIEW #3

Last preview of RICE 1.12.1! This minor patch will be out this weekend hopefully.

As one does not need to be a bloodthirsty conqueror to become a celebrated figure of legend, a few of the new legends coming with RICE 1.12.1 are given for accomplishing great non-militaristic deeds from past RICE flavor packs.

Hopefully, this will liven up some of RICE's older content, such as, for example, the cantigas mechanic from the Galicia flavor pack or completing the Sijilmasa event chain from the Sus flavor pack. Because they are functionally like vanilla's legends, you will receive similar events and rewards for completing them.

so bad great DLC is not needed and the worst of the worst one is going to lock good part of this mod.. I would like to boycott this DLC but because of this mod I have to buy the chapter hoping for the best in the second part of the year.

I tested the Ethiopian pack. Nothing to say. I think it's just a beginning, it's still a forgotten area of the game

Thanks! I do think there's a lot more stuff I can do for East Africa down the line, but this is just a start in what's arguably the most obscure part of an already obscure region lol

Just got the event that the Sri Lankan Ruler moved the Capital to Polunnaruwa and that a slot for an university was unlocked and a university built- Yet no University spawned. Probably a bug?

Playing with Rajas, community flavor pack and the compatch for the CFP.

I can't reproduce the issue with RICE only, so it might be some compatibility thing with Rajas of Asia. I'll check later when I have time, and see whether it's something I need to fix or ROA needs to fix, thanks!

Are there recommended characters for the packs that aren't included on the RICE starts?
Are there any flavor packs in particular you're thinking of? I'd say as a start just anyone ruling in a flavor pack's region you're interested in might be a good start. There are a few characters with minor flavor or historical context who aren't bookmarked. Off the top of my head, most of the vassals in Guiyi or Egypt in 867, Qawurd for 1066. There's also Thabit ibn Qurra and his descendant ibn Nabhan for 867 and 1066, to play them either start as the Caliph or the guy who rules over Harran at game start, and you'll get an option to land Thabit ibn Qurra and/or ibn Nabhan depending on start date for a Harranian playthrough.

Version 1.12.1 "Dioscorida" (Released 3/16/24)

“Dioscorida [Socotra] is very large but desert and marshy [...] The inhabitants are few and they live on the coast toward the north, which from this side faces the continent. They are foreigners, a mixture of Arabs and Indians and Greeks, who have emigrated to carry on trade there.”
- Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, Greek navigational aid from the 1st century CE

This will likely be the last update for RICE before the upcoming REDACTED flagship flavor pack (barring major bugs or a surprise DLC/major patch from PI). As always, if you're using Steam, remember you may need to unsubscribe and resubscribe for mods to update properly (multiple times if necessary).

The most notable addition of this patch is a few new legends that can be acquired through some of RICE's old content, like finishing some struggles or taking certain decisions. To set realistic expectations, please be aware RICE doesn't add many yet, but hopefully, more will follow in future updates.

Changelog

  • Tweaked Kasdanianism spread in 867 (Soraya strikes again)
  • Kasdanianism, Gayomarthianism, and Behafaridism are now also involved in the Persian struggle by default
  • Moved Finnic/Uralic religion localization file to the replace folder to repress a lot of false alarm errors
  • Reduced prestige requirement for completing the Greenland struggle with the Regional Integration ending

  • Replaced Sami holy site of Hiiumaa with Akkel

  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

Teaser #3 for [Redacted]

Speaking of future updates, with RICE 1.12.1 out of the way, work will now focus mainly on RICE's next flagship flavor pack! Today's clue for where it'll focus on might sound familiar. Also, in case it's not evident, the teaser is of a modifier.

Clue #3: In this region, 3 groups struggled against each other for power and influence during CK3's timeframe.

I tried an Iberia campaign with the last version of the mod hoping to create an interesting legend with Cantigas. Well.. The King dies few weeks before I would be able to fund the legend and the Songs of Holy Mary legend disappeared.

I tried to seek it with the following rulers but with no results.

I donnow if this horrible vanilla feature deserves this mod content. but if needed, please make legends a little bit more fun.

Unfortunately can't really do much in terms of tweaking legends and how they work, without touching vanilla code, all I can really do is add in some new ones.

TEASER 4 FOR REDACTED

RICE's new struggle features an ending phase, that is the subject of today's teaser. For those who don't recall, ending phases are a feature that was added in the Legacy of Persia DLC. An ending phase is a type of phase that immediately ends a struggle once reached.

Clue #4: Consequential wars in the 1200s impacted the trajectory of this region's history for centuries to come.

Conqueror people +diverse region + Turkic Incursions + Dynasty ending in 900s + Conseuqential wars in 1200s + Capital...
Bulgars coming to Balkans, Byzantine Empire asking Magyar support against the Bulgars, Krum dynasty ending in 900s, 4th crusade, occupation of Constantinople.

Oh and I forgot the "Imperiality". Meaning definitely an empire is involved.

TEASER 5 FOR REDACTED

A flagship flavor pack for RICE would not be complete without some new activities! Today's teaser covers one of several that will be coming with the update.

Clue #5: A new activity lets you visit a site associated with an ancient figure, revered for his writings in the CK3 timeframe.

TEASER 6 FOR REDACTED

Work is starting on an official reveal trailer for RICE's next flavor pack! Meanwhile, this clue is admittedly vague, but perhaps it'll help you figure out where it will take place.

Clue #6: A new unique building represents a mountain, an unmissable feature in this region historically associated with some legends and myths.

TEASER 7 FOR REDACTED

I'm hoping to release the trailer for RICE's next flavor pack sometime next week, so not too many teasers left to show. It's been a pretty good run this time, and it's always fun seeing what ideas people brainstorm, whether right or not. Anyhow, maybe this clue will be a little less vague than the last teaser... maybe not.

Clue #7: For centuries, the export or tribute of a certain good played a major role in this region's economic and diplomatic relations with its neighbors.
