So definitelly something from the version .987 attempt has ruined everything.
I found a video showcasing how to do a clean uninstall, maybe if you can confirm it is ok.

I unintstall game, I delete the Battletech folder, I delete the save folder and I detele the Hairbrained folder from locallow (there is no such folder in local)

After this i do a nice simple Battletech install and nothing, game crashes.
It enters main menu, but any other action I take, the game freezes with the circle loader icon rotating infinitelly.

I tried installing the .986 version, that worked perfectly and the game doesn't even go into main menu. It crashes in a black screen, the cursor is still active, can be moved, but nothing happens.

So, I need help to do a proper clean uninstall and make Battletech work, please.

So after some dialogue back and forth it seems that the game still tries to find Roguetech related files.

From the creators of Roguetech I need help to track down whatever files are being created by .987 and previous that prevent a clean uninstall.

At this moment in time i deleted all my previous save games and screenshots folders, I just want to make Battletech work (and if it works maybe apply Roguetech again)

My procedure was:
Uninstall Battletech
Delete remaining Battletech folder (steamapps/common)
Delete remaining Harebrainedscheme folder (appdata/locallow)
Delete the save folder
Do a manual search of the computer to delete any "637090" remaining folder
Do a manual search of the computer to delete any "harebrained...." remaining folder
This clearly was not enough and Roguetech created files prevent me from doing a clean uninstall

From the attached file at the end you can see error lines with the game trying to load various Roguetech equipment, so we need to clean those, and only you know how and where are they created, so i can delete them.

Thank you
Please help

At this point? You have to dabble in the eldritch art of Windows Registry editing.

Open up RegEdit.exe, navigate to 'Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH'.

Right-click and 'Export' a copy of the current settings to a .reg file, just in case. Keep that file safe.

Now... start off by deleting the 'CachedSettings_h2706256392' key. See if that fixes the issue.

If not? Delete the entire 'Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH' entry from the Registry.

You'll lose your game preferences, but it'll be starting over clean, because of the earlier steps you went through.

Let me be clear on this: Registry editing can, IF you mess up, require a System Restore, or even a complete Windows re-install.

I do not care about preference, saves for the game, just making it work.
So I have to uninstall everything and then go into the regedit and delete there as you mention.
If i don't touch anything else it should not mess up windows, right?

It should not; but always be prepared for the worst-case scenario (i.e. read up on how to use System Restore to 'restore' older backups of the Registry).

This did it.
I deleted the whole Harebrained schemes entry from the getgo, to eliminate from the start any other posibilities.
And it worked
THANK YOU!!!:cool::D:)

If you created any custom mech loadouts in skirmish mechlab, and didnt delete them before clean installing BT it will look for them and fail. Using regedit is as shown above is the only way to get around that.

I now hate Thunderbolt missiles... They gutted out my very customized Urbanmech. Costing me 2 medium pulse lasers as well as rare materials component. Which at this early point of the campaign are going to be hard to replace. Somehow the 3 magshots in the other arm survived. But I probably won't be putting rare gear on such a light mech ever again. Doesn't help the Urbanmech is like a bullet magnet.

But otherwise. Roguetech has reinvigorated my desire to keep playing the game.

Quick question for folks here as I cannot seem to start a new campaign:

I have used other mods before so I cleaned up my install with a complete file check through steam.
Got the mod
Installed
Loaded up and showed on the splash screen
Went to start a custom campaign and it accepted the changed values and then just gave me the spinning wheel of loading + all the comments but never got further than that (after 10 minutes)

Cleaned out the save folder and removed the mod, re-checked the files. Installed again with no saves. Same result.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, have you checked the \Steam\UserData\########\637090\remote\C0\ folder for a 'settings_cloud.sav' file?

Because that file contains not only (some of) your in-game preferences/settings, but ALSO created custom 'mech and lance configurations.

Try deleting that one file first, and disable Steam Cloud Sync beforehand (otherwise it'll just be restored from Steam's servers).

@TimeDiver0

Hrms.... got rid of the flie you specified, c0 is now empty entirely.

Cloud sync is off and has been off for a long time now.

It seemed to bite for a minute, now I am stuck at the fast spinning wheel again.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again!

Ohboy.

The next step involved Registry editing, so I'd recommend looking that up first.

Messing up in there can seriously screw up your Windows installation.

Once you have looked it up, I refer you to the following post.

Hrms...

Regediting is not the end of the world. I nuked the key for HBS as noted in the post and it gave me the 'fresh install' feel.

Re-did the Complete file check, reinstalled mod, and spinning like a top.

Still cannot start a game.

Any other thoughts?

At this point? Upload a copy of your output_log.txt file onto here, let me take a look in it.

Here you go.

Thanks again!

Okay, after looking through the log... the only remaining advice that I can give is to do the 'Verify file integrity' for the game, AND erase the contents of the \Mods\.modtek\ folder.

Just the folders files and within \Mods\.modtek\, nothing from the \Mods\ folder itself.

If this doesn't fix things? I'd have to refer you to the BattleTech modding discord for a real-time chat session; specifically the #RogueTech channel.

I installed this mod, gave it a try, and ended up not liking some of the visual changes. No big deal, I just did an uninstall and made sure I had no saved game files and... the game was broken. Just voicing my opinion for anyone else wanting to try this - do not rely upon the uninstaller to work correctly.
