I would like to ask the CO team a few questions about Modding. Not 'what' we can mod but rather 'how'. I want to model some houses and for example traffic lights. I know that there will be info on modding this week but I'm afraid its just basic info without technical detail. If I get to know these things.. I might even start creating new buildings even before the game is released.

  1. When you guys modeled buildings, what is the polygon count limit you guys have set for types of buildings (residential, industrial.. name it.. but also 'traffic lights, lamp posts'?
  2. Do we need to take LOD (Levels of Detail) in mind while modeling?
  3. Can we animate models?
  4. How does the typical 'mod package' look like for an building addon (archive file, folder structure... scripts?)

I'm afraid waiting for attendees to bring info from PDXCON will not be sufficient to answer my 4 questions.. ,or even one of them. I bet it will be something like "Modding this or that will be possible, even using the Free blender tool". But that's the max i expect to come out. I don't think 'modders' were at the conference at all. That's why I ask these specific questions. I know there must be 'goals' and 'boundaries' set for modelers by the company to keep the game 'playable'. Polycount limit is very important. I don't think it is hard or even difficult to release this kind of info to the public. I don't want to model new buildings and then find out in a week or 5 that i have to remodel the whole thing again.

I wasn't referring to the main post in the thread, but if you scroll down you'll see:

Thanks for the head's up, but that's too bad.

It would be great to know the basics about building modeling, so players can have something to do in the mean time and create their own content Moo, to make this game potentially better right at launch, with a wider variety of buildings..

Couldn't a few more basic questions on modding be answered? We are 24 days away..

Followed by..

I'll see what I can do :)

Information is on it's way!
